bingooo.... my last installation of a tweaked vista gave me 60fps in CSS benchmark compared to 100fps in xp, same rig, same driver revision. not only benchmarks, but does impact in-game performance.

not really, i believe it might be the drivers issues (optimised for 8 and 9 series instead of older cards) because surfing and doing other tasks is fast and snappy. I like... thumbup.gif

@ac_N1
Maybe a trimp down version of vista will work fine for S478. Where lotsa unwanted thingy been killed and took away.

@Edmin
LOL!! Sapu all and put at drawer wait until u move to Quad then use it? biggrin.gif Im having 3GB now, is enough for my task. And somemore, my mobo slot is full. x Unless i on my mind for 6GB. lust.gif 2*2GB + 2*1GB!!

Well.. IMHO if without gaming, vista is a good way to go. Atleast feel refresh with the new aero interface.

fylon u know me very well, ya? lol..

actually for a 2GB ram rig, Vista on day to day usage would be no problem at all, sure smooth. my main concern in 3D applications performance.

i think u mean vista home basic edition? well. in my experience, the interface feels slower without aero 3D  rclxub.gif

doh.gif without aero 3d = slower... then with aero 3d = slowest sweat.gif

@ravewar
s478 can be installed with vista provided your hardware meets the requirement. like i said previously, doing daily tasks in vista with s478 is smooth, just some minor hiccups in 3D applications (lower framerates). I'll do a new test and report back 2 u guys soon when I have the time. Hopefully nvidia's latest vista drivers improved... some basic info of my rig: P4 3.0GHz HT, P4P800, 2GB DDR400, Nvidia 7600GT 256MB, Xfi Extrememusic. nod.gif

bro, if your hardware is up to date, the aero 3D interface flies.... sweat.gif

when i say that the non aero vista interface is slow, i meant that it is less responsive compared to aero 3D on a capable machine.

Haha.. Whats the point of w98 and w95 man? Where u gain speedy OS but u can do nothing with it. doh.gif Recently game / apps are not supported.

Anyhow, it is just unoptimized driver for old sch cards like edmin mentioned in previous. So far those new card 8/9 series are doing quite well in gaming with vista. Eve now, benchies in made on vista machine already.

yeap, nowadays NTFS a hell lot better that FAT32, if u guys are talking on OS. I would say at least Win2k to meet today's 'stability' standards.
