QUOTE(ziggy87 @ Sep 18 2010, 04:25 AM)
something i wanna share

i have some questions in my head regarding string tension
let's assume..same string, same racket, new shuttle of same type, similar swing and strength
assume that i can handle 28lbs with no problem
i can produce lightning smash with 28lbs if hit the sweetspot
but i feel that the sweetspot smash with 24lbs  has similar speed

well it doesn't trouble me but makes me wonder, which should be faster?
*
Could it be your arm/wrist/body power only manage to explode the full power of 24lbs string but not 28lbs?

let say LinDan use 24lbs smash is 200km/h, use 28lbs smash is 250km/h, he is strong enough to explode the full power of both string tension.
but you use 24lbs smash is 185km/h, use 28lbs smash is 190km/h, make you feel like both speed is around the same?? hmm.gif

QUOTE(nemoexcel @ Sep 19 2010, 04:42 AM)
A higher stringed tension = more control, but LESS power in your smashes
lower tension = more power in smashes, but LESS control of your shuttle.. imagine a trampoline effect if you jump on it....

check this out bro >> http://badmintonracketguide.com/tag/badminton-string/
*
So LinDan LCW they use 30lbs++ smash no power loh?? hmm.gif if use 10lbs can smash gau gau?? biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Fantasia @ Sep 20 2010, 12:19 AM)
i believe BG6 is more durable than BG66 while BG66 can produce more power.
i have read some of u giving info about string tension. for those who still dont understand, i will like u to caring out this simple experiment.
1. get a rubber band.
2. then u pull the rubber band til cresent shape. and record the X as well as the strength needed to pull it to Xcm
[attachmentid=1789685]
3. then move the pulled rubber band near ur skin and then release ur finger so that the rubber band will strike u. this illustrate low tension
4. use the same rubber band, now u stretch the rubber band longer to illutrate high tension. repeat 1 to 3.
5. now u compare which 1 is more pain as well as the strength require to pull the rubber band to Xcm
hopefully this help
*
your example seem like didn't hit the point, we are talking about difference rubber band now, rubber band A is 24lbs rubber band B is 28lbs, if you use N strength to pull the rubber band A to reach X, you need N+M strength to pull the rubber band B to reach X, or with N strength only you can pull the rubber band B to reach X-Y distance only.

smash power not depends on X only; a racket B 28lbs string with X = 1.8cm only could be more powerful then a racket A 24lbs string racket with X = 2.0cm, if racket B can get X = 2.0cm also then sure a lot more powerful then racket A.

indeed your example is more suitable to describe shaft stiffness, if use N strength to band the racket shaft, the smaller the X value mean the stiffer the shaft; e.g : racket A modal 1, X = 1.0cm, stiff; racket A modal 2, X = 1.5cm, mid-stiff, racket A modal C, X = 2.0cm, flex. . .

yonex shuttles are really good.
1 RSL No 1 Tourney shuttle can only last at MOST 1 game..sometimes half
1 YY Aerosensa 30 shuttle can last TWO games and still can be used for next session's warm up..

extra note, heavy smashing involved.
*
But how come in the tournament game the shuttle only can last 2 or 3 points then need to change? some more they are using the Yonex highest grade shuttle. . . biggrin.gif

BTW is Yonex shuttle quality control more better then RSL/RCL? RSL/RCL shuttle sometime this batch nice then next batch quality so so or poor (sometime more slow or more heavy or not durable.)

bg66 at 28 tension... seems like no power. =.=
hahaha

how come no power? you are state player level, right?? pro player use bg66 at 28+ tension or bg65 at 30+ tension one, I saw them can smash gau gau with it. . .

QUOTE(rein @ Oct 4 2010, 12:22 PM)
hmmm...kinda find flexy shaft hard to control the shuttle or mebbe i am just used to stiff shafts.

question: most articles i've read indicates that low tension = more power/easier playability. However, recently I tried to restring to 24lbs from my usual 27lbs then the result was horrendous. Drops where all over the place, smashes end up in the net, clears needed extra effort and worst of all, defensive clears ends up at half court. Decided to cut the strings after one game and re-string back to 27lbs. I'm abit puzzled as to the opposite effect of my experience against what i've read and what most ppl experienced. Could it be that the strings flexed too much at low tension causing loss of power instead of the bounce effect?
*
if you doubt with the theory low tension = more power, then forgot about it, just use the tension that you feel suit you most, if now using 27lbs, next time maybe can try 28lbs or 29lbs (ensure your racket can take it biggrin.gif ), if you feel the power more lack then 27lbs then mean your level is not there yet, 27lbs still suit you better. . . last time I also test it one by one, at first is noob want high tension, 25lbs then 26lbs. . . now back to 24lbs - 25 lbs only. . . biggrin.gif

according to Yonex website info, NS300 shaft stiffness is medium, NS200 is flexible. . .

Karakal PU grip is still my best grip for price below RM10 one.

Pronex got one RM5 also not bad, but not durable and not thick enough.

285+3 = 288mm
285+5 = 290mm

balance point is measured from most end of handle to the balancing point on the shaft
so the higher the BP, the head heavier it is
*
so the below 2 racket which one more head heavy? biggrin.gif

1) racket length 670mm, BP 285mm
2) racket length 675mm, BP 288mm

should be 675/288 because it's measured from the handle ma
*
Let say the racket head top is A, middle is B and grip handle bottom is C, so B to C is the balance point, the more head heavy the racket the smaller value from A to B, right?

but from the case I mention, the A to B for the 2 racket is
racket (1) is 670-285=385mm
racket (2) is 675-288=387mm

racket (2) having bigger B to C but racket A having smaller A to B, so which one more head heavy. . . ?? what I mean is the racket length will affect the head heavy factor also. . .
