Yes it is. On another note, here's another interesting species! This one is still around, been keeping 3 of these the past 3-4 months and they're doing pretty well so far.

It's local Ryo. I owe this species to a bunch of friends who did alot of hard work digging up a rotten tree root infested with termites and red ants. Look out for that and you may end up with some Cormocephalus in your hands.

But here's something important, try your best not to overharvest. Take only what you can sustain alive. 2-3 is all you need, max. And be very careful with your hands.

Has anyone here had the chance to see a real life specimen of Alipes grandidieri? Once almost bought a pair, still contemplating on getting them... wub.gif

Beautiful specimen, red feather tail centipede right?
Good taste, how much does tat cost?
*
Not cheap. And the sad part is, you won't be able to differentiate between the sexes. Need to establish a few in a colony before being able to breed. Am looking for people interested in trying. They're really gorgeous.

P/s: I only encourage non-traders with close to zero interest in making money to join in and pm me. Have my personal reasons.

1 approx 8 cm with reddish head and tail with light brown body. Move quite fast.
another approx 4m centipede with red blue leg... neva seen b4
*
Sounds nice, a pic will be great. Don't kill it.
------

P/s: Pedes are by far the bugs I fear most. They venom packs a punch and are erratic in the way they move. Can change from overdrive into reverse gear in a second. They're also turbocharged bugs, speed is not their slack. Please be careful how you keep them. Tall containers alone won't be good enough. And try reading up on bite reports of the species you guys plan to keep to at least give a rough idea of what first aid steps you would take should you end up getting tagged. Stay safe.
-------

As for the Alipes, I'm only looking for trustworthy friends. Won't be including just about anyone in a rush. Thanks for all the pm's.

Sekian.

Inspect the container often to check for possible escape(pedes take escape artist tendencies up two notches above any other invert) or death. A dead centipede smells awesome. No words can describe except..breathtaking.. Talking out of experience..wahaha!

Ford has got everything to do with your nick. F4TE is an engine model number for a series produced by Ford. But it hit me when you asked that your nick is really 'fate'? Lol.

One liners like that deserve they're own section too don't you think, Ryo? Gratzi for the kind reminder tho. God's keeping me in a good mood today. Thank you, merciful man from upstairs.

Hence, the preference to answer f4tE. My dad was a Ford guy back in his day.

Added on October 19, 2008, 2:02 amits a scolopendra subspinipes de hanni

QUOTE(littlesaint @ Oct 27 2008, 02:05 AM)
not captive breed, but captive born, and ryo i was not pointing it out to you or any1 my apologies if i caused a misunderstanding, but just in general, because they were ppl who told me that i was selling them over priced and that shops were selling them only for a few ringgit each,i just wanted to make it clear to ppl, and as for the sp. it is scolopendra subspinipes de hanni, i had some1 id it for me and he says that it is 90% accurate
*
How would I know if I had a De hanni, littlesaint? Most people I know refer to De hannis as Mau Chau, and that particular species doesn't trace it roots back to Malaysia. Would you share some defining characters that makes for sure IDing of this species? I am hoping to gain more insight on this one.

QUOTE(RyoKenzaki @ Nov 14 2008, 11:54 PM)
My deepest apologize for acting like a mod in this section
*
No need to apologize lah. tongue.gif

lunuwueju: 10cm pedes are a pretty common sight for local species. Death from being tagged is unlikely, but pain is almost certain.

well i told u before that it wasnt me that id-ed that centipede, a friend did it and i just took his word for it
*
Yes you did, didn't you. But if you could get more feedback from him and be a gem as to share it with me, that'd be really wonderful. He's got to be really confident to put in a number like 90% accurate. There must be some defining points he's looking at which would really make a whole lot of difference to an experienced eye like his. I'm just as interested as ever to find out. Thanks up ahead.

To really be certain, you'll also need to compare the terminal legs (the 'tail'-like legs on the last segment of the body).

I'm thinking they're identical?

Spank my arse and call that a cherry red. It's not a cherry red vassili. That species belongs to the same genus as cherry reds - Scolopendra. The one in your picture is probably a Scolopendra hardwickei. They hail from southeast India and are filled with attitude. Imagine a trigger happy sheriff. Grows to about the size of a cherry red.
