Hi, I just tinted my ride a month ago with 3M Crystaline70 at a shop which is a distributor of 3M and I can assure you good service and most important good workmanship at this place.

FYI, I did the same as what u doing now, search for some recommendation and review for tinting film, and came to know to know someone that did his tinted at the same place. Visited a few places, and end-up tint with this shop...
The owner himself and his brother will do the tinting job themselves.....

so if you interested, let me know, will PM you the address and u pay them a visit and talk to the owner himself, no obligation.... proceed only if you are satisfy after talking to the owner ok biggrin.gif

3M is an american company lah bro. Unless you're talking about your car or something else...

Anyway the one good thing I heard about 3M tints is that it's much more difficult to get fake 3M tints since the tint film is embossed with the 3M logo until it's installed. This is unlike the regular V-Kool/Rike Cool etc. tints. Not sure how true this is though, I haven't bought a car to be tinted recently.

alternatively, you can tint the top part of the front windscreen with another type of solar film which is smart tag friendly and darker in color....

too add on to that, 3M doesn't contain any metallic substance.. unlike rike cool which has that substance especially in gold dust.. the color will fade affter a few years

At 68% VLT, this will fail JPJ inspection (for front windscreen) on its own, not to mention adding it to the natural tint of glass which already blocks 5-11% transmitted light. So what are they going to use for the front since it's not going to be legal to put it in the front windscreen.

AFAIK, no matter what tint u used for ur front windscreen such as 3M, Vkool..etc for JPJ inspection in Puspakom...all will be failed or will not passed the test! Unless u r willing to pay some "duit kopi"

eh. 3m tint for windscreen appears to be reflect in purple-blue-ish effect right?... ask an accessories shop for that kind of tint. roughly cost rm700 for nissan x-trail windscreen, normal sedan would be lesser than that. imhp

i somehow feel that vkool is getting theirfilm from 3M, as i do not think that vkool has manufacturing capability.
any comments?
therefore, i still think that 3M is a better choice than vkool.
and, noticed from an auzzie site that, all 3M tint film blocks 99% of UV, just diff by visible light transmission level.

i've been using 3M tints ever since i started driving.... currently using 3M crystalline 70 for the whole car. no regrets using 3M tints.....how does it compare to V-kool? i dunno bcoz i havent used v-kool b4 and it's unfair to comment. but all i know is that 3M is a reputable brand from a very reputable company with good R&D. furthermore my dad has been working with 3M for 39 years hence i'm pro 3M tongue.gif

the only downside abt the crystalline like KITT mentioned, not smartag frenly which is not really a big problem coz my windscreen has a small section with print-on antenna so that part is not tinted...just put my smartag there when i pass through the toll booth.

i did mine at an authorized 3M dealer which is TintWorks at Sunway Mas.

Cheras as in Taman Mauri.

Opposite Old town kopitiam and behind Hotel Maluri. Easy to spot with big 3M signboard.

Personally i find 3M is the best among Vkool and rikecool (top range to top range). i have cars installed with this 3 at home tongue.gif

this is what i heard from a friend of mine working at 3M tropicana there...

he used to use 3M tint on his vios (employee can get better pricing)

after a few years, he changed to huper. I asked him why he changed cause i was also thinking to get 3M for myvi and my friend told me that 3M tint will shrink (especially the front windscreen)

I am here not to flame or endorse any product, just stating what my friend experienced...

AFAIK, no matter what tint u used for ur front windscreen such as 3M, Vkool..etc for JPJ inspection in Puspakom...all will be failed or will not passed the test! Unless u r willing to pay some "duit kopi"
*
Assuming the 70% VLT rule for the front windscreen still applies.. any tint that has VLT over 70% can pass. And assuming the manufacturer's claims are true, tints like V-Kool Elite, Secure, Rike Cool RC80 will pass JPJ inspection.

I did read just now at JPJ website about car tint. There's a article saying the VLT must be at 70% for front and 50% for side and rear screen, but another saying the VLT to be 70%. Both article is on the same date issued. rclxub.gif sweat.gif

dont buy 3M if u going for the unbreakable tinting, u know the one they claim hit few time before, side window break.
snatch thief break 1 time only, window break, i installed this at reputable 3M dealer in KL also.

piss me off, waste of RM2000K, i wont buy 3M again.

Just tinted my front windscreen with 3M CR70 wth side & rear windows tinted with 4mil safe guard security film (IRR 82%) today with a company call Solar-Safe at uptown damansara utama. In the process of "baking" the car. Price is quite attractive - cheaper than other 3M shop I checked with.

At 68% VLT, this will fail JPJ inspection (for front windscreen) on its own, not to mention adding it to the natural tint of glass which already blocks 5-11% transmitted light. So what are they going to use for the front since it's not going to be legal to put it in the front windscreen.

Sorry if I am out of topic. I am looking for tinting, not gonna do it so soon as I still need to save up in order to do the actual tinting.
But from searching through forums, and reading from the websites, I came a cross with some conclucsions and questions.

1. 3M tint.
- VLT of 68% at best. Will not pass JPJ rules as required is 70%. Normail car already has 5% making it VLT of 63%.
- Is not smart tag friendly. Has a work around by cutting a hole in the tint. (not something I want to do)
- Slightly pricey.
- Will tend to shrink over time. Is this true?
- the main distributor is e-tint?

2. Air cool
- Supposed to be cheaper than 3M / Vkool.
- Has until 70% VLT means will comply with JPJ and even has a warranty where if within this certain period you do receive a summon,
Air Cool will bear the summon.
- I've seen the advert before but still not quite convinced.
- Has a 7 or 8 year warranty?
- Has anyone used this before? is it more advisable over 3M / Vkool?

3. V-Kool
- Recommended and offered as package by Car distributors. (Honda, Toyota, Nissan even Perodua)
- VERY pricey. Even over 3M by a bit.
- Is metal based so will rust in the long run. Can anyone comment on this?

4. Rike cool
- Also complies to JPJ rules and promises no issue with smart tag.
- Is there any other distributor other than in PJ?
- I dunno about the pricing but apparently under RM1000. Is this true?

5. S-cool
- I came across this one not in forums but from going to an accessory shop called Sato. Apparently S in S-cool stands for Sato.
- Suppose to be at most RM700 for a standard wira (I asked the sales person)
- Has anyone used S-cool before? was wondering if it is ok. I daren't asked too much as usually they try to make a sale and
me regretting after that and having to keep returning and getting it fixed would be a hassle.

Well, so far these are it. I still dunno what to choose but sort of narrowed it down to 3M and Air Cool for now. Was tempted to go for S-cool but still have
no reliable sources about S-cool.

Would appreciate opinions. Thanx.

this is what i heard from a friend of mine working at 3M tropicana there...

he used to use 3M tint on his vios (employee can get better pricing)

after a few years, he changed to huper. I asked him why he changed cause i was also thinking to get 3M for myvi and my friend told me that 3M tint will shrink (especially the front windscreen)

I am here not to flame or endorse any product, just stating what my friend experienced...

First of all, which type of 3M tint?
Shrink? I have my 3M Cyrtalline tinted since 2006. No sign of shrinking. It's still the same as day one.

I'm an owner of a car tinted fully with CR 70. Let me try to help your question on 3M
Yes, the VLT is 68% at best and yes again, the normal car already has +- VLT 5%.
But if you check all the brands, rike cool, v kool, air cool, eco tint etc, none of it has above 70% VLT. 68% is the best you can find. Even if stopped by police or fail puspakom check, you can always bring the saman etc for warranty claim so no worries.

Smart tag has no problem for me so far. Just need to slow down while passing the lane. So no need to cut hole.
Understand the very old smart tag device will have problem though.

Pricey, but to me worth it. Can really feel the difference. even my colleagues sat my car says good.

About shrinking, i also asked before but the person said that for the old Crystaline. New ones like the CR70 dont have this issue. Not sure how true though.

Hope these helps.

i just have 3m installed in my car in ipoh near the former yau tet shin market. EG610 for Side and Rear and RE70 for the front. cost my about RM980. I dont know its reasonable price or not for 3M. anyway, i just want to share my experience with the workmanship.

pls, if youre in ipoh dont go there. its just so terrible sad.gif i got specks of tiny black dust all around my window! i got a 0.5mm dust on my pasengger side window. its visible to the naked eye. on my corner small window, i can see the tint wasnt cut to perfection. it was senget! i took it back to change it, the lady boss (presumably the wife) ask me to wait for another few year for it to get bigger coz "anyway, you have a 5 years limited warranty" WT?????!!!! and for the tiny specks of black dust....the man boss (presumably the husband) said that it was unavoidable since its done by hand!!! you cannot escape the dust...its everywhere!!!

as for the senget tint, they kept silent, probably they know they have a lousy workmanship and prepare to replace for me.

i insisted that they change that 0.5mm dust tint, they gave in but with a dark dark face!!! and ask me to come another day!

i feel tired talking to them. its like giving me all the lame excuses only a 4 year old child will only listen. chinaman business...the aftersales talk sucks like hell.

i belief that the cost of the film is more less valuable than the workmanship. 30% - film 70% workmanship!!!

my experience, pls do not go for the value of the tint only, the most imprt is that you must see is (from my experience) that whether they have a special room for tinting..to keep out the dust (mine was done in aircond room BUT the room is a dumpsite...everything was done inside there means a lot of dust. you dont want to go there for a second or third time like me sad.gif

Recently had the chance to compare 3 different tints - V-Kool Elite, Llumar security tint and 3M security tint (based on what I was told). Here are my impressions of them:

1. Darkness: 3M darkest (quite dark), Llumar noticeably tinted but not too dark, V-Kool Elite appears clearest and many people thought the glass was untinted.

2. Heat rejection: V-Kool Elite and Llumar felt to be similar in heat rejection, ie very good. I usually park my dark-coloured car (V-Kool Elite) in the hot sun without any foldable sun-screen on the front dash, and the car doesn't feel super-hot when I return. 3M felt like poor heat rejection as the car (silver-coloured) was very hot under the sun, even in Cameron Highlands where the ambient temp was 27C. Driving on the NSE highway at noon required the aircon to be blasted at max to keep car cool. I was very disappointed as I expected better from 3M. Comparatively, the other 2 cars (V-Kool and Llumar) did not require any extra cooling (aircon set to normal levels) to keep the car cool.

3. SmartTAG: V-Kool Elite and Llumar - no problems at all. 3M - did not test

4. Garmin GPS: V-Kool Elite - appears to impede reception a bit, as I lost reception a few times, but this may have been due to being surrounded by tall buildings in the city; friend of mine said he experienced noticeably worse GPS reception when using V-Kool Elite. Llumar - appears better than V-Kool Elite, tested in the city. 3M - no problems with reception at all, tested in city and in the countryside.

5. Nighttime - did not notice any difference when driving at night.

3M - no problems with reception at all, tested in city and in the countryside.

anybody can backup the above comparison? Trying to decide between 3M and V-kool. I could not manage to find specs for 3M but found for V-kool only. Anybody got link to 3m tint specs?

JPJ Specs:

70% VLT for front windscreen
50% VLT for other windows.

as for 3M specs.. this is as close I can get.

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_U...HbeT4DCJBL6BVgl

but not all are sold here in Malaysia I think.

*
* Pls exclude Llumar cos no experience with it
1. Agreed

2. Agreed too

3. No problems with 3M as well

4. 3M is fine with GPS but not V-kool

5. Hmmm, why would anyone compare when there's no sun? laugh.gif

Above is only a comparison thru personal experience, I believe that 3M is not that bad when compared to many other products that I've seen peeling off,
bubbles everywhere and those that may look dark but doesn't reject much heat in reality. Personal preference is still to V-kool elite. nod.gif

Hopefully someone can start a thread to compile experiences of different users since those small time tint producers may 'tweak' their numbers to show
better performance when it isn't so. Rank them in the end and end the headache once and for all! thumbup.gif

*With / without tint, GPS will still not work well in an area with lots of tall building close to it unless you're right on top of them laugh.gif

i come across price is not standardize among 3M authorise center. 3M in kota damansara offer me RM 3300 for cyrstaline series. then i ask i saw discount on Rm 500 on the website and newspaper. they answer me "If you would like our Crys Series, best price is RM2700. Retail price at RM3300. Im giving you rm600 off which is at cost price for you. if you want lower than that, i'll suggest other products".

so i went other 3M authorise shop to ask, 2 3M shop quoted me RM 2000-2200 for large saloon. btw, other 3M shop told me starblaze in kota damansara is killing all the big bosses and some they quote up to 3.6k for crystaline plus 4mil.

i juz share my real experience when i survey around earlier this month, end up i go to a 3M shop in KL which give me good price and good workmanship plus give me alot 3M freebies.

Guys,
you can find the authorized center for 3M here:
http://solutions.3m.com.my/wps/portal/3M/e...ainpage/CS/WTB/

as for the e-warranty, its a system 3M use to store the warranty online (got to know this from one of the car center)

I do not think they (non authorized center) can access the e-warranty, they have to key in their username and password to access the system. Its was demonstrated by the authorized dealer when they keyed in my particular

if park under hot sun, u use other tints also, you'll get almost similar result.. but with good tint, your aircond will cool down your car faster.

Hi everyone~ Im trying to find best tint for my car~ There are some requirements,

1. Approved by JPJ (Do not have any problem when go through Road Block, I dislike trouble)
2. Best Heat Reduction (Parking car under strong sun, when return to car, the car interior still in cool condition)

Cost of the tint doesn't matter for me as long as the tint is good~
If able, Tell me the price & the workshop address of the tint to install on my car. My car is Nissan GTR R35~

Thx you very much~

At 68% VLT, this will fail JPJ inspection (for front windscreen) on its own, not to mention adding it to the natural tint of glass which already blocks 5-11% transmitted light. So what are they going to use for the front since it's not going to be legal to put it in the front windscreen.
*
Yep JPJ tear off the front windscreen..was using crystalline70

Actually, if kena saman by JPJ, have to send car for inspection after removing the tinting film. Need to pay the saman. So, will the authorised shop reimburse for the saman by JPJ and also reinstate the removed tinting film? hmm.gif

The final colour is dependent on the original colour on the tint film plus the colour of the windscreen. Certain car's windscreen comes with some factory tint. Thus different cars may have slightly diff colour

3M will face problem with smart tag & GPS. Unless you are willing to cut a small hole or open the window when passing the toll booth.

I am using 70 front, 60 all others on my Civic...

Smart Tag definitely not friendly, but you still can use... You just need to put your TAG closer to windscreen and slow down much... I always pass it around 15-18KM/H no issues...

GPS no issue... I got my signal within 10 secs...

Just tinted Crystalline series, during the demo of the infra red heat generator, can feel the film block most of the heat and its cool to be touched.

After tinted, can't really test as its late evening, yesterday when I drive around during afternoon on the highway, still feel the heat of the sun shining through the windows even though my car just came up from the basement.

Do u still feels the warmth of the suns through the windows after tint? Guess my expectation was too high after test the demo in the shop that the film block almost all if not all of the heat generated by the red infrared lamp.

cheers

is there anyway to verify that you get what u paid? How to know whether it is Crystalline that we got tinted? I knew 3M Tint came with the watermark on the film, but would there be any differentiation that you're not getting some other cheaper 3M film?

Anyone knows the price of 3m tints?
looking at a brochure.
3M  ST70 + SC 85 (4mil) = RM1680
VLT 58%
UVR 99%
IRR 85%

3M RE70 + Platinum Gold (4mil) = RM1780
VLT 55%
UVR 99%
IRR85%

3M Crystalline + titanium (4mil)
VLT 68%
UVR 99.9%
IRR 97%

I wonder what is the + for?
Strange to see these complicated codes. Anyone has any idea if those tints are cheap or reasonable?
*
+ means combine

For example, 3M Crystalline + titanium (4mil) means:
(1) Front (and maybe back) windscreen is tinted using 3M Crystalline
(2) side windows tinted using Llumar Titanium 4 mil

actually crystalline series all is 97% IRR. so the number is referring to the number of light transmitted inside ur car. aka 40% 50% 60% 70%, so depends on how dare you are, LOL. tongue.gif

SmartTag definitely friendly but only at specific location, I had tested all position only one position works perfectly, also no need to slow down a lot also can detect... the best position is in the middle of windscreen... confirmed can detect, no problem...

I don't think the thickness of the windscreen can increase the IRR.

Does the original windscreen has any IRR?

Recently the tinting on my windscreen started smudging. 3M C70. Had it on for close to 2 years.

Went to applicator and was told the adhesive started melting. Was replaced with no questions asked. It's not the first time in the household, another car had this issue too with the windscreen.

I am surprised that 3M C70 has this issue. I had been told that using a windscreen sunshield, will accelerate this phenomena.

Do most of you still use sunshield for windscreen eventhough have C70 applied?

Years back when cars at home had V-Kool, never had such issues.

i have one question here...
i'm planing to tint my car with 3m crystalline, but how do i be sure the shop is using crystalline series but not other series or even other brand?
i did do some research, it mention 3m CR have some kind of marking, do other series have the same marking?

I just bought my car recently in Balakong and looking for a good safety film, my salesman quoted me some 3M tinted range RM1000 to RM1800 after discount. She told me is 3M original product and giving me 3M warranty card. So, I secretly took down some pictures for survey later. Somehow, when I visit few other 3M shops, those shop people could not recognize the products I show them, they told me is not 3M film, and later when i check online, I noticed the 3M safety film available in their website is only Scotchshiled, Nano 50 and nano 70. I can't find those products in my photo. Could anybody tell me what is this about.

3M do not have Nano 50 only have Nano 40 and 70.

If the film is from 3M, they should have indicate on the warranty card, what actual film is that.

What you posted is actually the brocheure of the shop it self.

Tinted Crystalline CR 70 front & CR 60 back. Side Nano70. No change to evaluate its performance yet because night already. Tomorrow see how it's performance.

When removed my old tint I asked them to check with the 3 m gadget and found the IRR is very low compare to what they advertised. They even claimed it's Japan nano ceramic technology. Wasted time & money with the in house brand. Very unscrupulous tint shop.

Did my new Honda Jazz today.
Weird place :
1. They insisted on charging me 2% for using credit card. I can't remember any shop in Malaysia that asked me to pay such charges for the last 10 years. It is not as if I pushed their price down - I asked for the cheaper tint and agreed to their price without bargaining at all - RM 800 for the tint plus another RM 200 for security film for 4 windows.
2. The 3M logo on the tint - some are upside down
3. They could have told me that they do not have enough stock. Now the front windscreen is not done and I have to call them next week to check if their stock has arrived.
It is not the first time I used them but after today probably the last time.

I don't think the thickness of the windscreen can increase the IRR.

Does the original windscreen has any IRR?
*
one aspect to consider is the car windscreen tilt angle wrt the smart tag source transmitter. the greater the difference, the less efficient the IR signal reach the tag. if the tilt is so great until the critical angle breached, total internal reflection will occur, nothing will reach the smart tag when that happens. fiber optic operates in this principle. of course, windscreen material etc. all affect the IR diffraction...

Definitely agree that 3M CR70 affects Smart Tag usage. Previously using Huper C70 no issue at all, recently changed windscreen and used 3M CR70, immediately failed 2 out of 3 tolls (karma sial... i always used to curse those who get stuck during jam. sorry in advance ya). I think the key is to drive very, very slow (almost to a halt) and must somehow catch the G-spot. I'm still experimenting, any advise from sifus will be greatly appreciated.

However, I believe you will also feel the difference in heat resistance, 3M CR70 seems somewhat better.

My car on cr70 front cannot pass using smart tag. So what I do all the while is to use the rare mirror space on windscreen to let the smart tag to detect the toll sensor then only can

After installing the 3M tinting CR70 on the wind and rearshield for 4.5 years, the windshield fails the JPJ standard of 70% visibility while I had my vehicle checked at Puspakom. The result shows 54% visibility only.

This is just to share if anyone is interested in the result post years after installation. Does anyone have a similar experience?
