hmm..Just bought the phone. It's simply fantastic! However my phone book was saved in a Sony M2 memory card. Any ideas on how to transfer the contacts from there to the e66? thanks..

Wow..this is a Hard one..Can you use SE's software to copy all the contacts to your PC, then try to transfer to ur new phone via PC Suite? I think should be able to..
*
yeah...gonna try that. Thought there's another easier way out..ha..

yeap! So far so good! Although my 4GB memory card sort of screwed up just now. Couldn't access and save any files in it. But after reformatting it everything's running ok now. Basically everything else is running fast and smoothly biggrin.gif

menu wise..it's somehow a little different from the N series..or maybe it's psychological effect and due to the use of SE phone for the past 2 years. However, after a few hours playing with it..sort of got familiarised with it..all I can say is..it's nice =)

For the interest of any users on SE phones moving to E66, I've found a solution in transferring the contacts after digging through the net. I'll share it here smile.gif

1. Copy the the .vcf file from System/Pim in the memory card of the SE phone (SE phones usually save the contacts in a single .vcf file if you chose to backup the contacts to the memory card)

2. Download the vcfsplitter software from here. It's free smile.gif

3. Read the readme file included in the software for the instructions to split the single .vcf file to multiple .vcf files of your contacts.

4. Import all the .vcf files in PC Suite and all the contacts should be transferred to your e66

I've done mine and it worked like a charm smile.gif

Hmm..I have some issues here.

1. I browsed the net and found that you can actually do an auto contact search by pressing the numbers in Home Sreen. However, mine doesn't work..only the numbers appear as I type but no search results shown.

2. Whenever I restarted the phone, an installation bar is shown. When the installation ends, a message stating that there's an unsafe content in memory card that is not installed and asked me to proceed to app. manager to have it installed.

Anyone encountered such problems?

Answer 1: The contact search feature in Home Screen only applies to Euro firmware. APAC firmware doesnt have this feature, and I dun understand why too. Hopefully the next firmware release will add this useful feature though  biggrin.gif

Answer 2: What is the last application you have installed before this problem occurs? If you have .sis or .sisx files in your phone memory or memory card, this do happen as the phone scans the memory for installer files. Try to delete all the installer files.
*
ah...no wonder..such a nice feature but not available in msia..wat a waste.
Yeah..I think I have some installer files inside. Made a few restart and everything seems to be fine ady though..thanks =)

I was browsing through the Download! folder in my e66 and realised that I can download F-Secure Mobile Security for 0 cost. Have anyone tried out this particular software on your e66?

I think both have their pros and cons..I personally preferred the UI of Nokia Maps..very very nice  rclxms.gif ..while Garmin's Malsing map are more interesting as they have more POIs compared to Nokia's. I'd use Nokia Maps to search for addresses (reali powerful) but too bad its only a 3-month free trial..sigh.
Does the Nokia Maps need to do a map search via 3G or GPRS when u key in the address? Is there any localised map on that software? I tried it but it seems to be accessing the map somewhere via my 3G connection

I was playing around with my phone and realised something.

When I accessed my phonebook and then exit from it using the "exit" function button, I can go into my phonebook again in 1 second.
But if i were to exit from the phonebook using the "end call" key (the one with red symbol), when i access my phonebook again it'll take me almost 2 seconds..tried that a couple of times and still the same.

Anyone has that experience?

never experienced it before, but u can try to open the phonebook, and exit using "end call" key. Thn long press on "Home" key to check if your Contacts is one of the running apps..if it is, it shouldn't take too long. If its not in the list of running apps, then it's suppose to take longer.  nod.gif
*
yeap..checked that smile.gif

still the same..tried both method (using the end call key to exit and using the "exit" function key on the right button when i'm in phonebook).
In both incident, the phonebook is not running in background, but the speed in loading the phonebook is quite significantly different. Re-accessing the phonebook after quiting using the "exit" button is still faster than re-accessing the phonebook after exiting using the end call button..

lol... that happens on most of new symbian phones... like my n95 also same. my theory would be, contact that close by "exit" left some "trails" in RAM while "red button" force exit the apps, so resulting a longer (another sec) time to open the app back. thats what i think la...
*
ha...that's what I think too!!

QUOTE(ck_spaceboy @ Oct 24 2008, 02:43 PM)
Easiet way out is to close the Contacts using "Home" key, this way ur contacts are still running in background, so accessing will be super fast. Dun worry bout the memory, coz Nokia E66 has ample RAM for use..  laugh.gif
*
Yeah..i think that's the fastest way to re-access it. But always ter-press the red button. Need to get used to it..ha..

how i know it active?...

As far as I know, the GPS will be activated automatically as long as you run any GPS-related software. I've tried disabling the A-GPS and the time that I got locked on was pretty long. And like what ck_spaceboy mentioned, the data packet that goes through by using the A-GPS isn't much..the max that I've observed were around 5KB for each locking.

oic....but when u keep it on, it still charge rite?....after lock the position....
*
Nope, it only charge you per locking session. As long as you're locked on there's no more data packet transferred. BUT...if let's say halfway driving and your signal with the satelite got lost, another locking session will be activated automatically. When that happened, you will be charged again.

better not turn off A-GPS, its really useful...

Yeap...the data charges is quite minimal. And with A-GPS, the locking of ur position is a lot faster.

i got some genuine issues, maybe some one here can help to clarify ?? afaik, zitron and avaxx was an authorize dis for nokia phone but how bout Dynamic Multimedia?? refering to my sales thread on this E66 warranty.
please help to clarify. thanks

The ONLY dis for Nokia in Malaysia are Zitron and Avaxx. Anything besides those two is considered AP. Yes, the phone and accessories that accompanied might be genuine as in they came in the box packed by Nokia and gone through SIRIM approval. But they are brought in by 3rd party companies and not distributed by Zitron and Avaxx locally, thus making them NOT original as the warranty will not be given by Nokia. Hope that helps..

For those of you interested in having your e66 battery life prolonged, I found this setting workaround somewhere in a forum of which I can't remember.

Apparently, the wifi device in e66 is still powered even though the scanning of wifi signals has been turned off. By decreasing the power distributed to the wifi device had helped in making the battery last longer.

Here's how you can access the settings:

Main menu>Settings>Connection>Wiresless LAN>Option>Advanced Settings

Then disable Automatic Configuration. Next, go down to "TX power level" and change the default value of 100mW to either 10mW or 4mW.

Tried that myself and had my battery lasted a day extra biggrin.gif . However, the drawback might be that your wifi signal might not be so strong...haven't really compared that myself. For my case, I seldom use the wifi on my phone and when I do, I just revert it back to the default settings if I find the signals a bit weak or want to optimise it.
