I just got onto the Xbox wagon pretty late, and only just recently found that you can use a credit card to buy microsoft points.

So far, Microsoft has failed to authorize my credit card, even tho my bank called to inform me that none of Microsoft's transaction attempts were blocked.

I just want to know if anyone has had "success stories" to share and what voodoo they did that led to that result (ex: Call tech support, put in real address, used VISA card, sacrificed baby goat, etc).

Used to be very easy (1-2 years ago), then Microsoft got strict with buying points with a credit card.

If I am not mistaken, you need to be connected to live from the actual country of ur gamer tag account to be able to purchase points using a credit card. I'm not sure whether the card itself has to billed in that country (like that damn thing called iTunes). Or maybe I'm just making up a story and they check based on the card's billing location? who knows... coz in feb 2006 was able to buy points for my US gamer tag. but after that i can't anymore, but MS has no problem taking my money using the same credit card when my gold subscription ends every year.

long story short; (like the previous post said) get a prepaid card smile.gif

I think you hafta use a credit card originated from the country your account belongs to.
I've tried Public Visa but it says the info doesn't match, and I even changed my account and billing address to a real Singpore address (gramps' place).

So I ended up creating a new US account and buy online email code instead.

You might want to quote these as well:

QUOTE
According to xbox.com, the 1600 and 4000 points purchased from the U.S. can only be applied to accounts registered to the U.S.

The points is compatible with USA Xbox 360s only and USA Xbox Live Accounts on non USA based Xbox 360s. Example: If you are based in England, but have a USA Xbox Live account on your 360, the code will work for you. We have satisfied customers from around the world. The Gold Subscription code, however, works worldwide.

I don't feel safe using credit card to buy MS points. I just go to Gamers Hideout and buy the prepaid card there.

So Debit Cards work....
Considering that all funds for Debits cards are up front as compared to Credit Cards, it is more plausible to work, I guess.

But just asking to make sure, the accounts you are paying for are Singapore accounts? and billing addresses are in Malaysia?

For anyone who's interested in buying from there
Enter 'fiesta' to get a $1 off discount. Not much, but it makes the price cheaper than PA(unless you are using $10 coupon)
Dunno until when the promotion lasts though

Logically we all think that, but for some reason debit cards are actually less accepted than Credit Cards. No idea why, though smile.gif

And ... do any of you guys sometimes feel like XBL games are more expensive than normal games?

Sure, normal games are more expensive up front, but if you buy early and finish playing it early, you can sell it 2nd hand for minimal financial loss ;o ... XBL games you buy, you don't like, you can't sell it or ask for a refund tongue.gif

This is exactly what the developers like~! Because if you sell 2nd hand the developers don't get any money.

Well, since Debit cards are hooked up to bank Acc funds, they have to be more careful of fraud. Usually, i think they get rejected because of a strict daily fund limit (i think about 500-1000 a day), or a monthly limit. At least, that's the problem i USED to have with debit cards some years back.

I dunno about expensive. for me, not having a clutter of DVD cases to store in my house seems like a plus. and i rather pay online for a game when i know the developer is going to make real money as a result. Like Psychonauts.
If anything, i worry about the DRM burn years later when these download services finally come to an end and my Steam download of Psychonauts is forever lost.

QUOTE(zaphod42 @ Aug 23 2008, 04:08 PM)
Hi n00b here (though i got my 360 back in december)

Just wanna know if anyone has any issues with buying stuff online at the Marketplace.

My Xbox is the 360 Arcade (unmodded) Asian VErsion (the one that came with Viva Pinata and Forza 2).

Tried buying Microsoft points online with my Credit card but i keep getting Postal code is wrong error. Double checked the postal on my CC registration and still same issue.

Tried again with a prepaid card i bought from Play-Asia

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-es-49-en-70-2ng4.html

It was supposed to be the Asian accounts version as per the reviewers but i keep getting an invalid code error as well.

Any one have this issue ?

THe thing is , i registered it under my Malaysian address selecting the Singapore region. Is there any way i can use my card ? Pretty sure its meant for asian region
