Bro your points are valid definately, and no offence taken, as we all can discuss and debate these matters with a mature mind (unlike some ppl in parliament =.=).
Now while i do agree that crimes with airsoft are very low, the main issue here is not the crime itself, but to provide an answer to the main concerns of the people have the power to legalize this sport. I daresay, that if you were to ask anyone in the higher authorities why they are hessitant to legalize airsoft, they would say that it is because it
1) resembles a firearm and can be used for illegal activities
2) can be upgraded to really cause hurt onto people (high powered springs + metal bearings?)
Now we all know that the chances of people actually doing this is very very small, but would it be easier to try to convience the lawmakers that this wont happen, or would it be easier to propose a system that can prevent the occurance of such an incident? You got to know what is the biggest challenge we're facing in legalizing airsoft. The biggest challenge in legalizing airsoft is to actually convince the lawmakers that this sport isnt all the destruction and carnage that they all think it is. But what would be the easier route to take? Argue with statistics that it wont happen, or take preventive measures to prevent it from not happening?
Secondly, correct me if i am wrong, but the daring money changer heist that happened in KLIA not too long ago was commited with an airsoft AK47. I cant remember the details, but that was what i heard. Of course, if compared to real firearms, crimes with airsoft is like, 1-5%? But think in the lawmaker shoes. If one person used it already, many more can. Why should i give more trouble for our country and legalize it?
So i hope you understand the reason for such a proposal. It might not make monetary sense if you want to talk statistics, but we're dealing against the typical Malaysian mind that holds the power to legalize airsoft. They are paranoid, have alot of problems already at their hands, and they cant see the good this sport could bring to the country. It takes much more than just statistical reasoning to get them to legalize airsoft
Its a pity our country's leaders are so unwilling to think outside the box. Because of one or two bad apples, they shut down on so many things. Bleh~
No offence too btw, just a friendly debate. We all have similar goals right? Which is to be able to play this sport without fear in this country in the future
Cheers!
