Litter sand, yes they can be used but must be non-clumping
Yes, hamster can eat egg, yolk or white.

As for the sand...it looks exactly the same as my rose one so I guess it's real O_o
*
what do you mean by this? You bought the sand bath from that LYN forumer and compared it to one you bought from outside?

Added on September 22, 2008, 2:10 amwait a minute...I just noticed one thing. Carrots cannot be given to dwarf hamsters? I've been giving mine almost everyday...

Its Winter White hamsters. I bought a younger one few months ago to accompany the old one. I've read somewhere saying that need to wait the hamster to be at least 4 months old to be accepted. And I've tried to exchange their cage recently, to get them used to each other smell. I've attempted to let them play on a open space and let them meet but really frighten they will bite each other so din really let them meet.  sad.gif
*
same case as me...I bought one hamster, then got another 2 younger ones to accompany her. But ended up the big one bullying the younger ones...chasing after them all around the cage until the younger one turned upside down and screamed for help. Then when someone posted that they eat their kin...I had to give the older hamster away. sweat.gif

my hamsters are quite small still...they're not used to eating something so big. Even though I bought the smallest sunflower seeds available. Slowly but surely, they're preferring the sunflower seeds over Living World Classic staple food.

anyone need sunflower seeds? tongue.gif

Yups.... chipsi mainly uses fir and spruce, but sometimes pine also termasuk coz these woods are all soft woods. On their pack, they just print soft wood. I have been smelling alot of wood shavings for the past years... and I can only trust Chipsi and Delikate coz so far the phenol smell is not as bad as other brands. All of the cheap woodshavings are not so safe for our animals. That's why some people go for corncob or the recycled newspaper bedding. My hamsters are using Healthy Pet and Breeder Celect now.... I can see their health is much better, fur grow longer, then they are easier to potty train.
*
my hamsters have been clearing up the bedding before sleeping for a few days now. Although they put some of the bedding in front of the upper floor house, not inside...no idea why. Is it because they don't like the scent?

btw, what do you think about Woody Pet bedding?

QUOTE(hiroko_jiayi @ Sep 25 2008, 02:16 AM)
I am curious about our some dailor forumer's identity  tongue.gif

is Nezu a nutritionist or biologist? how come u know so much about those nutrition thingy and even the ingredient of the bedding ohmy.gif (which that i still dun understood tongue.gif )

is jtl the lady boss of petshack? biggrin.gif
*
you don't need to be a biologist to know about these things. Just learn it by doing lots of research. There are more elites in other subforums, you just haven't seen them.

is there any pet store around cheras which i can go ? i prefer a syrian hamster to be my pet. pai seh if i say anythin wrong.
thank for reading & thanks for the future reply's

Cheers !!!
*
you can look at the list of pet shops available here - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/229386
look for a shop near your house, then give them a call to see if they sell hamsters smile.gif

QUOTE(sangels @ Sep 25 2008, 05:09 PM)
For my 6 syrians + 1  FT gerbil, one pack of prestige can last me for more than 2 months or around 2 months with feeding smoothie at the same time. If you have only 1 or 2 hamsters, one pack of prestige can last you more than 2-3 months. You no need to give a lot at one time, you give 1 teaspoon or 2 teaspoons then give again after they finish everything or almost finish. No problem to leave it in the tank unless it is wet or soiled.
*
I thought the food must change every 24 hours? I mean like give 1-2 teaspoon last night...then tonight must give fresh 1-2 teaspoon food? Damn...I've been throwing a lot of food away like that...my hamsters always never finish their food.

QUOTE(jovyn @ Sep 26 2008, 10:46 AM)

bath sand got many different colours and scent, depending on the brand...but I think most of them in white.

I thought you're not suppose to use chin bathing sand for hamsters? Something about the sand for chins being too fine and might cause respiratory problems in hams. *shrugs*
*
that's chinchilla bathing DUST. Not to be confused with bathing SAND. If I'm not mistaken, bathing DUST is too fine...too small (maybe small enough to go into their skins) thus causing problems with hamster respiratory systems. I compared the two at Pet Safari...Chinchilla DUST and two other hamster bathing SAND brands. Can see a big difference between the two. You try go compare yourself and see. smile.gif

I've never seen chin dust before because I don't think chins are available in Kuching. Hedgehogs I've seen, but not chins, gliders and ferrets.

So I just brush her down with a toothbrush. Thankfully she's a hygiene freak and doesn't stink.
*
So far, I've only seen one kind of Chinchilla dust bath available...dunno wat brand but its in squarish bottle and label is in green colour.

Can we use a toothbrush to clean hamsters? How...just brush without mixing with any water/sand?

I think they pushed the sand to the other side. Even my hamsters...love to dig dig...pushing the bedding up and out of the cage. From the ground, there's about 2.5 inches of solid "walls" before they reach the metal bars.
