err... fyi, my warranty is still intact. in fact, there's actually once i get the green light from dell to change the motherboard all by myself, so they just have to send me the replacement board.

you can use either artic silver 5 or artic cooling mx 2, either one is good. i personally use mx2 and i got it from lowyat plaza. mx2 does not conduct electricity, does not require run it time and has a claimed life span of 8 years. performance is similar or better than silver 5. instructions will come soon on this V2 thread... haha..

I just re-assembled my 1520. I took it apart and applied AS5 on the CPU, and clean out both the heatsink for the CPU and GPU. As for the GPU, i will have to source for some heat pads as the ones that is currently on the GPU are thick.

A few dust bunnies were lodged in between.

When i first got my 1520, temps for CPU and GPU were fairly low. After a year, i keep getting warning messages from NHC, saying my temps have exceeded 80c. Even at idle, the CPU temp would hit 45~50c.

My friend is getting one too. Any idea which payment method is most suitable for Dell? There's 0% interest thing right? If use CC other than the bank, need to pay how much?

it's fairly straight forward and simple to dis-assemble the panels. But just have to be very very gentle and careful. Yup, that's the good part, no stickers anywhere.

So far the temps looks good....considerably lower than before. But i guess will have to wait for the AS5 to properly set to get the best result.

CPU idle at 35~39C. Haven't tested on games yet. Still gotta get a cooler to maximize cooling, since when i'm out of country, i use my laptop practically 17hrs a day.

sorry if was not clear, I meant when ordering new laptop can we upgrade the default graphic card from 8400M  to 8600M ?  There used to be an option in the customization section but it's not there anymore.  Just wondering if its still possible to get the 8600M still for 1520 series.
*

You can try to call them, and ask for it,but i doubt it'll materialised. Maybe u wanna opt for 1720 instead,it still got 8600M GT.
