U are using the free malsing map ?

Use Malfree or Malsing Gold Map which has the bug fix for address search.

Just search the place u want to go and select Go

I downloaded malfreemap I should paste it on garmin folder only am i rite sifu?
*
After u downloaded malfreemap, install the .exe file into ur computer because it contains the maps for MapSource, at the end of the installation it will prompt if u wana create the gmapsupp.img then follow the instruction.

After that go C:\Garmin\Malfreemaps and u should see gmapsupp.img there and copy that into ur garmin folder in memory card. Rename the malsing gmapsupp.img to malsinggmapsupp.img if u wana keep the malsing map and rename it back to gmapsupp.img when u wana use it.

Garmin can only support 1 gmapsupp.img at a time, so see which map u prefer to use.

ts.. im n82 user.. i use garmin 4.20 no problem.. but my uncle's n95 8GB always no signal.. oni got 1 bar.. i did the test.. 2 phones put together.. and find the signal.. my 1 can get 3-4 bar... but his n95 either 0 or 1 bar.. n95 really the weak ? and.. he said before that he use NokiaMaps ( original.. buy from nokia ) has no problem with routing... any idea ts ?
*
Each phone is different, I also dont know why, me and my friend's N82 put together and his one locks in 15-30 seconds, mine locks in 1-2 minutes. But if driving, mine locks very fast also.

It has nothing to do with Nokia Map, they are still using the same sensor in the phone. Sometimes GPS never use for a long time, they need longer time to lock signal. This is what we call COLD START. After locking signal for the first time, close Garmin and Open Garmin again, u will find that the GPS locks really fast just in a few seconds.

bro chicaman, i have a Sony Ericsson GPS Enabler HGE-100. dun dare to open. could you advise me on this GPS thingy?

QUOTE

The GPS navigation market continues to grow and Sony Ericsson has seen fit to delve into this popular category with the release of the HGE-100 ” a simple add on that turns most Sony Ericsson phones into a personal navigation system.

According to Sony Ericsson, the HGE-100 is the first personal GPS navigator to be built into a portable hands-free device, so it's certainly an interesting concept. The device looks much like a regular media headset, but it's the GPS function that is appealing. The HGE-100 gives you spoken directions through the stereo headset, or written directions on the phone display. Depending on what handset you own and the quality and size of the display, this feature may or may not be useful. We tested the HGE-100 on the Sony Ericsson W890i which has a rather small display for text-based directions. Unfortunately, the device only works on Sony Ericsson phone models, and not all are compatible. Check the Sony Ericsson Web site for further details.

Simply plugging in the HGE-100 and switching to GPS mode gives turns your phone into a device capable of receiving GPS satellite signals. Before you can use the GPS applications, you will need to install them. The first time you plug in the HGE-100 you will receive a prompt to download three applications — Tracker, GPS Location and Wayfinder. Unless your handset has Wi-Fi, these applications will be downloaded over the air using your phone's network connection, so be sure to check data charges with your carrier before proceeding — as these can be quite expensive.

The three applications are fairly straightforward and simple to use. Tracker is a fitness program that allows you to keep track of your speed, the distance travlled, route taken, and energy consumption during a training or workout session. Entering details such as your height, weight, year of birth and gender provides the program with information to calculate how much energy you have consumed, in addition to the time of your session, the pace and the distance. The program also displays the route you have taken. It's a nifty option to have in your pocket if you regularly train.

GPS location is the second application available for download and it is a simple application that provides information about visible satellites and your current position in terms of latitude and longitude. You can also view your current speed.

Finally, Wayfinder is an application that lets you navigate various routes, view your current location on a global map and it provides you with audio directions. You can use it to navigate on foot, by bicycle, in a car or even on public transport and you can search for your destination by the address, a company name or a POIs (Points of Interest). Unfortunately it's only a trial version of Wayfinder. A full upgrade to a lifetime navigation subscription costs 89 Euros. Although that doesn't seem too harsh considering it's a lifetime membership, we feel that the program itself doesn't have much to offer when compared to its competitors. In particular its search function is quite cumbersome — when looking for an address or particular place — and the map detail is quite poor.

As a media headset, the HGE-100 is above average in terms of performance, but not outstanding. Its five-way navigational pad for media control includes play/pause, previous/next and volume up/down and it features a stylish chrome finish and is comfortable to use. Sound quality from the ear buds is reasonable, with good bass levels and minimal distortion.

After reading it, to me, it is just a useless receiver that uses GPS Location and Way Finder. Expensive and not as good as garmin for sure.

Basically it wont be great in Malaysia due to the lack support for Malaysia's MAP.

GPS in SE isn't practical at all. SE failed at this point. Better stick with Nokia biggrin.gif

May I know Delete all the ?what? files?

If I don't set all those files as hidden files, what will happen? Is it to prevent us to accidently delete them?
*
Sry, FIXED already, I typed wrongly

I meant

Set to hidden so that your gallery will not generate THUMBNAIL for HIDDEN FILES. Nothing wrong, garmin will still work without any problem.

Delete all the _PAibTN folder in garmin, open each folder in garmin folder to see if there is _PAibTN folder then delete them~

i have a situation here, for example, now i am in malaysia, then I use Malsingmaps. If I travel to other region, for example middle east, and I have the map for middle east as well, can I load the map for both Malaysia and Middleeast at the same time to my phone, or I can only load once at 1 time?

I malas to upload everytime if i travel la :-(

If not mistaken different region of map has different file name, GMAPSUPP.IMG is for asian region if not mistaken.

Turn on ur AGPS if u want to use it, but for me, I prefer to use without AGPS.

Old symbian 6260? I dont think so because u will be facing memory issue.

If 6260 slide, its S40v6 and I dont think you can install garmin into it.

hi there guys

wanna ask how does Nokia Maps compare to Garmin Mobile XT? So far i'm using Nokia Maps and it works well in KL and Melaka, although some more "ulu" roads in Melaka not really updated.

and also is it possible to install any GPS software into LG KC910 Renoir? Or am I stuck with the preloaded one?
*
Garmin Mobile XT is way better than Nokia Maps, try using it then u will love it and u will leave Nokia Map at the corner lol.

I dont think you can install it into Renoir since it does not belongs to Windows Mobile OS or Symbian OS.

budget less than 2k and can wifi perhaps? onli nokia will work with garmin?
*
Not really Nokia only, Samsung Innov8 can work as well. Windows Mobile OS (PDA) can work as well.

But I prefer Nokia out of other brand and symbian out of other OS.

With 2K budget u can buy any of the phone I suggested above, or maybe 5800xpressmusic if you want touchscreen and something new from nokia though the camera is only 3.2megapix.

I would say N82 is the cheapest with the best specs. The only thing bad is the Battery life. Get ur phone fully charged before going out if u wana use GPS or a car charger will do too.

hi all,
isit possible for LG KU990 Viewty to use the GarminXT thing? it looks so cool biggrin.gif

oh btw, my mom is looking for a GPS automotive navigator. here r the following must-have specs:
-big, clear screen(she's got poor eyes)
-loud clear text-to-voice speakers
-responsive GPS feedback( i suppose all GPS systems provide instant real-time feedback? dont wana cross the wrong junction b4 it even refreshes the screen o.0)

any info contributed will be greatly appreciated and wud like to thk u all in advance smile.gif

cheers~
*
Nope, Viewty cant use Garmin.

I am not really sure which Navigator is good since I used the handphone and external receiver only. But they are quite similar, the only difference is the Device itself.

Yes real time feedback, before you turn it will prompt and tell you in how many hundred meters before you need to keep to which lane and so on~

QUOTE(SerioseCat @ Jan 4 2009, 01:48 PM)
i think we need a tutorial on efficient usage of Garmin, u know like all the small points u can only know by experience like what we just discussed

btw for routing, i set to 'Shortest distance' as default 'fastest time' usually does not use my usual routes and makes it further

and does anybody know where to get more car icons? im sure its just some copy paste action into the memory card folder.  I only have arrow, luxury car, kembara-like car, and monster truck, and they are all blue lol.
*
Yea, shortest distance and fastest time got their own pros and cons.

Sometimes for fastest time it will bring you to route with lesser traffic light and use highway where you can drive faster with slight difference of 1KM.

Car Icon? I am using the default blue car haha. Let me look around the icon folder see if can use own icon or not. tongue.gif
