If you intends to walk using GPS, why not using off road mode. It just show direction straight to your location. Then you choose yourself which alley and road you are going to use.

Go to Tools>Settings>Routing>Route Preferences, select off road...
*
Yeah, make sure don't masuk wrong alley. Alleycats is ok. Lorong Haji Taib alley is not ok tongue.gif Kena rob nevermind. Kena backside ... doh.gif

thanks mate
simple question, what is the big difference if im using mobile garmin xt as agps compared to garmin device like 205W (ignore the big screen factor)?
Much more faster and high strengthness of signal?
Im using Mobile XT on my hp now but thinking of buying 205W garmin to put in my car
*
A dedicated device is always better. By using dedicated GPS device, you can save on h/p battery. The GPS device can connect to car charger. Bigger screen. Dedicated chipset, faster locking (without A-GPS). More powerful processor, faster map scrolling and feedback.

You can imagine it is similiar using h/p with camera as compared to dedicated digital camera like Canon 1000D.

QUOTE(buntutman @ Aug 19 2009, 02:42 PM)
dedicated device is NOT always better.
GPS are weather dependant equipments. AGPS are less dependant under harsh weather conditions.
gps device can conect to car charger, your handfon no car charger ah ? lol

better or not is up to individual user's needs and wants.
*
A-GPS only connect once only when the app is launched. After that, it doesn't connect anymore, does it ? Until you close/exit the app, and then launch again, then A-GPS will connect once again for one time only.

ok and your point is ?

Added on August 19, 2009, 3:50 pmoh wait i just read your statement carefully. and no, it doesnt connect once on startup only. it'll go on whenever it is needed. i see my edge signals jumping in and out every now and then.
*
Hmm... For my Nokia phone, I only see it connect once during launch and disconnect a few seconds later. After that, did not see EDGE/GPRS connecting anymore. Maybe I need to spend more time looking at the screen than the road in front. sweat.gif Will try to take note.

rolleyes.gif I think to re-phrase it nicely, GMXT for S60v3 as it names implies, is mainly for S60v3 devices (Nokia, Samsung, etc.). Somehow 5800XM and N97 are lucky enough to be able to run it in their S60v5, albeit with some problems/bugs here and there. whistling.gif

Would like to try travel from ipoh to kedah without using highway.. lolz

Search somewhere in the options there for "No Toll". I remember I saw it before.

QUOTE(Lynixx @ Sep 2 2009, 10:03 AM)
me too...no signal at all,but sometimes can get 1 signal only.
*
Red signal = not locked
yellow = locked, but weak signals or insufficient satellites
green = locked and good to go.

Correct, and I recall I read somewhere in LYN to get GMXT from authorised disti/resellers only. They have a list somewhere, someone posted before. hmm.gif

No piracy/mod/hack/illegal/Jack Sparrow discussion in LYN. rolleyes.gif

No no, wrong example.  It's like buy products/services 1 time from the person.  Then sell the products/services to 1000 other people for much cheaper and money go into own pocket.

I have a question.  When I am not moving, my GarminXT display turns left and right, showing me the roads around me.  How do I stop this?  I just want it to show the road in front of me.  Thanks.
*
Dedicated (external) GPS accuracy is about 5-10m

Built-in GPS inside h/p accuracy is about 15-30m

Therefore, when you are not moving, the direction will rotate around, based on previous calculation at the same spot within +/-30m, even though you have set to on-the-road only.

hey guys got a question here. i have garminXT on my nokia5800. the problem is i'm going back to my hometown tomorrow using coastal road. any ways i can make the gps guide me without going into the highway??
*
In GMXT, browse under options, there is a setting to disable toll roads. Or you can try set shortest route instead of the default main-roads.

Are you using h/p ? GMXT + (MSM/MFM) ? That will be very slow for h/p processor to process the map.

Try use GMXT + MFM-Lite.

erm own a nokia 5800,  why there is no signal when i use garmin at singapore ??
*
1) Do you enable A-GPS in Malaysia ?
2) In SG, try go out to open field, without trees, roof or tall buildings/HDB flats in between. e.g. Kallang stadium in the middle of the field.

a simple question here..anyone know how to delete a contact from garmin xt?
i tried google but cant find any solution

If I remember correct, the contact will reference to our mobile Contacts. I tried sending my coordinates to another person so that he can navigate to my location.

Use MFM-Lite. The map is outdated a bit compared to MFM, but I'm sure you may not always need the latest one.

Open GMXT in your h/p. In the Settings, change the Voice and scroll down to Cantonese.

dvinez,

Some tips on this problem that I encounter before:
1) Set the phone to General profile (not silent or customized)
2) When fail, follow the exact steps to take out batt, etc.
3) Preferably, take out the SIM card and Memory Card (if any)
4) When you connect to PC on different USB port, sometimes it detect as #2, #3. Make sure plug into the first port without the #
5) Do no use USB cable extension. Direct use CAxx-xx cable from PC USB -> phone USB

andrewhtf,

I did that before tongue.gif It was fun if you set the tracking on to each second, provided there is still GPS signal at 30k-38k ft high up.

The average plane will cruise at around 900km/h once it reaches its altitude.
Small B737 or A320 about 850+
Jumbo about 900+

There was one time the pilot is making up for lost time during take-off and speeding at 1,000+ sweat.gif
