Ehhh Long time din use google map dy..Isn't google maps using data charges to refresh the GE data?

Anyway, trust me use a re-radiating antenna sure accurate wan..It's pretty normal sometime the accuracy will run. Nothing new because of the low signal strength.

Wth re-radiating antenna, it will boost the signal abit. I bought similar set from the Hong Kong site above.

Yes RM0.10 everytime /one seesion of using AGPS.

On the accuracy of tracklogs once switching on AGPS, well I can't confirm this but lotsa people who contribute tracklogs to the GPS communities did experience worst than ever tracklogs result wth AGPS on. The tracklogs got better wth AGPS switched off although acquiring will be slower but tracklogs cantik.. smile.gif

QUOTE(NewbieHero @ Apr 8 2010, 01:38 PM)
yeah.. please dont simply say AGPS will make the accuracy worse = =
but i heard rm0.10 will be charged everytime u use garmin for AGPS? is it true?

Well it's up to you to believe or not but if you know me in malfreemaps, I did lotsa trackings well almost weekly and has been testinmg tracklogs wth AGPS on & Off just to see the accuracy.

I don't want to belive as theroically AGPS only assist to acquire on the begining stage. thereafter only the inbuilt GPSr taking control of the work..Well from my numerous tracklogs submitted both wth AGPS & without, I alway cursed at the quality when my AGPS is on! Most probably it's not due to the AGPS but I suspect by switching on xtra function, xtra burden on the resources, thus the lousy quality of the tracklogs. Another problem is the more application u switch on during tracking, sometime the whole phone itself will get hang! (For eg. U switch on the tracking function of Garmin MXT, thereafter Race Chrono & Velox...It sometime hang! ^ thus the quality of the tracklogs also affected. Therefore during real tracking, I always ensure AGPS is Off, so do the Garmin tracking function bcos this will hang whole phone after >3hrs of tracking.

On the charges of GPRS/3G, very depending on operator. DIGI is charging RM0.10 for sure. My bill of daily RM0.10 can't be wrong. Maxis...suprising charging 1/2 rate although advertised at 1sen/kb...All my Maxis 3G usage charge 0.5sen/kb instead of Digi 1sen/kb.

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Apr 8 2010, 02:43 PM)
It does not make any sense to me. ALL AGPS does is to tell the GPS receiver WHERE in the sky to look for the satellites. As to whether the GPS receiver can accurately acquire satellite signal or not has nothing to do with AGPS.

the last time I checked, the data transfer involved in AGPS was about 5KB. Maxis postpaid charges 1 sen/kb so it's 5 sen/AGPS data transfer.

Ovimaps is lousy-lah although the GUI interface & fast recalculation but lotsa routinng errors & also lack of POIs compare to Garmin MXT running on malfreemaps. Also I don't think any recording function provided. I can't find any in their menu option.

For simple recording, you can choose to switch on your Garmin MXT recording function by : tools>manage My data>tracks>options>Recording mode > switch on, recording interval=most often & Show active track on maps =Enable.

During recording, u can actually see the tracklogs itself. To playback on PC either using Mapsource or google earth, goto Tools>Manage My data>Manage>Export GPX.

Thereafter your need an application called Mapsource from Garmin to receive the tracklogs the result should be something like this:

This is indeed very interesting. I do find that, sometimes, the reading can be off by 50 meters instead of the quoted 10 meters. May be I will do what you are doing and see how it goes........with and without AGPS. Thanks for sharing.

As for tracking. Can the built in Nokia Maps allow us to track where we went, I meant, the route we took and later on show it on the pc? If yes, can you pls tell me how?

I don;t use this..I used Race Chrono & Velox...easier for me.. blush.gif

For normal usage, you can switch on AGPS lah faster getting signal..me too switch on during navigation. I off it only during track recording for the pupose of contributing to malfreemasp. biggrin.gif .

Route setting really depending on what you want..If you want faster route, you can choose faster route but if you want shorter route you can choose shorter way but be prepared to enter those funny kampungs or unpaved road..the setting you can choose by:

Tools>Settings>Routing>Route preferences
Also under Avoidance setup pls untick others except tick the "unpaved road"

QUOTE(xinanxxx @ Apr 8 2010, 04:53 PM)
hi all,
im using garmin on my e71 and using it al ot cos i travel daily to many site. can you all share the best setting for garmin. eg: route setting

I no longer using Mapking, so I'm not sure whether it's software limitation or malsingmaps error.

You can try using fastest option & flag avoiding smallest road in you mapking setup (if available) & try 1st

If not OK, just report to malsingmaps as the maps is compiled by them.

Report the error to malfremaps here:

http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f...=6492&start=230

Sometime you just can't deny there are routing error in the map smile.gif ..thus feedback to mapper using the sample on how others report in the above link.

QUOTE(xinanxxx @ Apr 8 2010, 10:13 PM)
no..the problem only occurs when using garmin mobile on my e71..just show example using mapking map..

edit - i want to go from point A to point B instead of using straight road (red color) it will direct me to use jalan bawah (pink/peach color).

50 for sure older than 60-lah. For 60 u need to mod abit in order fro the version switching from Chinese to English..try searching in malfreemaps, There is one thread showing how to do that..but very unstable...

If u wanna fast scrolling try flagging only the "Exclude coloured Polygons (for less laggy)

Under map display, just choose custom polygon & POI or even Default.

On the recent maps release, there is also an option wth Large POI..that screen capture is for maps released weeks ago kua?

Anyway - less lagginess meaning lean maps..no colorful thingies

Once you switch off the AGPS function by going to:

Setting>Phone>Application Sett>Positioning>positioning method> unflag the AGPS, You are good without any SIM liao unless certain model of the phone required SIM to activate the whole phonme! (Vivaz one of them!)

Anyway, by switching off, no data will be charged but acquiring satelite signal will be slow..sometime can be as long as 5 minutes!!

Vivaz setting almost similar to any S60 R5 phones. Just that once at "positioning method"

U can't see AGPS!! I'm still wondering why!! However there is a similar "Network based" flag below..I normally untick this if I do not want AGPS..but it causes lotsa trouble esp when I go tracking (GPS track recording)..So since my worst ever tracking on Sunday, I switch on the "Network based" as well.

What you will experience on Vivaz is everytime you on Garmin or any GPS application & even camera (IF U on the GEOTAGGING" button)...It will ask you do you wanna connect to WAP or Wifi...u can either choose not to to avoid RM0.10 charges or choose yes to get quick fix.

Added on April 28, 2010, 9:42 am@Littlemin...Since you have read 1st page info on the differences between malfreemaps (myaseanfreemaps) & malsingmaps...Just to update you that by this time,

MFM has covered all of Malaysia & Sabah & Sarawak which on 1st page I did mentioned no Sabah/Sarawak mappers. & maps of East malaysia, Melaka, Johor & Singapore start from fresh at that point.

Right now.MFM maps of Melaka, Johor & East coast Pen Malaysia are much more detail than malsingmaps. For Singapore, the maps although very detail & as good as malsingmnaps but short of POIs..bcos of claims by malsingmaps Singapore mapper that claim MFm copying their POI at begining stage.. sad.gif

For Sabah & Sarawak + Brunei..it's a mix comment..certain new roads & taman, MFM is better but for older roads, seems like MSM still better.. smile.gif

By now, MFM also covering Thailand from South Thailand till Bangkok. However bangkok maps still far from perfect..probably in future..

For nokiamaps, just keep on updating using Ovimaps upload programme-lah but I think the update is pretty slow ~ 3 to 6mths once. If youy are using Garmin, the free maps from malfreemaps is updated weekly every Monday!!

Well on Nokiamaps, there are lotsa routing error for sure. & the POIs for you to search is very limited & the address search is not easy as Garmin! U need to key the exact name of the road otherwise u can't search..

This is the current cacat thing about Vivaz...Me too facing this irritating problem or BUG & hope nxt version Sony can rectify it...haha..really hate the promting msg...but FYI, my server access point I choose bt default as my home WIFI.

The promting to goto network also will come out if u switch on the geotagging inthe camera mode..I lready disable the geotagging mode..pheww..
Anyway, the GPS chip ib vivaz really inferior & acquisition of satelite really takes ages if you dunwan to pay..It took me 10min++ to axquire satelite from cold start on my 1st day! & also almost 5min without going for network..so just pay RM0.10 for the AGPS loh to get faster start-up..Not expensive.. smile.gif
