The screen is not flush like normaL Touch... i wonder why? Wouldnt it be more usefull to have a flush screen in order for TouchFlo to work flawlessly?

Haiya. I'm waiting for that touch3G since day 1 la. Why release this first? Stupid phone la. Slow proc and so ugly. Is an overpriced junk.

And this junk will somehow push up the price of touch3G.

since all of u are interested in it, i've opened a preorder with SIS, will have a free 4GB memory card. look at my signature. ETA is next week, earliest, but from experience with SIS, expect delays =.=

overall, great device i would rate it. wanted to get a tytn II initially for my second line.. but that was too bulky to carry or put in my small sling pouch. so ended up with viva.

compact and light, and it's reasonably priced. but bear in mind, standard package does not come with a headset handfree, u hv to purchase separately. comes in a very small box. I thought E71 box was small, but this one *lagi* smaller.

very intuitive interface i would say, been with touch and touch pro (tried) before.. touch is lag.. touch pro to me.. also lag.. not really that kind of "iphone's smooth"... this one by far.. smoothest i have seen from HTC. but sadly, it's with QVGA.. what if it uses Diamond screen? woow.. that would be nice.

nice to hold in hand, slightly thicker than HTC Touch / Touch Enhanced (dun hv the actual touch with me, as i sold it few months back)
Attached Image

glossy surface, finger print magnet.
Attached Image

thickness... i think it's still consider sleek.
Attached Image

2mp camera, the UI for the camera capturing/album mode is very direct mock-over from iPhone.
Attached Image

comparison of sizes
Attached Image

Attached Image

Attached Image

overall, nice. smile.gif far more better than HTC Touch. but, if viva could be as slim as Touch.. then it would be another great point for sure.

Played with Viva just now. Overall its feels cheap and plasticky. Touch Flo very smooth maybe due to no program install or perharps the screen is normal sensitive type like P3600i (not a flushed screen like current HTC). Overall Viva is a good package for beginner who need a stable WM 6.1 device with proven after sales support team. Its slightly longer than current Touch and much lighter in a way. Only one colour available - black/grey combo. The box very small and very un-HTC like packaging. Only a simple clear plastic insert with small manuals like Diamond, charger (Diamond type minus the LED), USB cable and battery. No extra stylus, no pouch, no printed booklet, not even an earphone! As for me - its more worth it to get ASUS P320 ..... maybe sales support not so good but at least that small ASUS pda comes fully loaded in a way.

HTC Viva currently available at all LYP dealers since yesterday. Check it out!

I was doing my survey for this phone in LowYat yesterday and found one shop actually giving very good deal, RM1299 with following package :

1 . Free 4G SD card
2 . Free Bluetooth
3 . Free hands free

But no installment payment plan, and credit card subject to either 2 - 3% ...

Where is the shop ? If not mistaken, next to DiGi shop there...

Go to Wisma Sentral next to twin towers. rental there is cheaper and thats why they sell their phones cheaper or at least give a better bundle. whatmore the shop there is quit long already there, and they also specialize in repairs, not like most LY shops which is touch and go with your cash or credit card.

Wisma Sentral got, on the gorund floor. After the information counter go to north-east, and its before the famous chicken rice shop. Its a family business, 2 daughters, and a mom, and a guy who is a the brother i think. they even do ipod repairs. that shop has been there since KLCC is there already man. And yes, they sell HTC PDA.s
But the guy who is selling it on lowyat is a good deal too because of the memory card.

not so direct....viva no GPS leh....

Viva does not sound new to me after i play with it at my friend shop, specs and size wise all the same as HTC Touch, what i think is for HTC not to lose face by lowering HTC Touch price to rival Asus P320, HTC made out a new casing and put in the lcd and electronics part of the HTC Touch and rename it to HTC Viva.

If it's a brand new design then they would have include the GPS chip right...?

if you set your wifi router to use security, such as WPA, you have to set the key on the router and use the same key on the pda wifi. This is a security step to prevent others from using your wifi for free

I think the above package is more attractive thumbup.gif

These are specs I got from th product page
Memory ROM: 256 MB
RAM: 128 MB (not used for storage of course)

+removable storage, its fairly decent for a non-3g user like me

At the Setting > Memory side it stated the following:-
Storage
Total: 80.79MB
In use 19.53MB
Free 61.26MB

Program
Total: 107.18MB
In use: 49.91MB
Free: 57.27MB

so not sure if the storage area of 61.26MB is sufficient for my hundreds plus of sms.

You know even the touch 3g coming out only has 256MB of memory.
Total viva memory=80.79+107.18 is not equal to 256MB as advetised in their product sheet. Man where did they extra 50MB go??
Can you put programs in the removable storage? maybe if you move it you might get more room.

what does the E means on the top-right hand of the screen along wif the signal strength, battery power, etc? there is a time i notice it change to G by itself...then a moment later back to E

i'm suspecting it means Edge and GPRS but then i'm not downloading/uploading anything... unsure.gif

those are ur data connections service.

E - means EDGE
G - GPRS
3G - 3G
H - HSDPA

it changes when you dont have certain signals in certain areas. and detecting the available strongest data coverage signal.

having that logo doesnt mean that you are connected to ur data connection service.

but when you are.
the SMALL ANTENNA above ur SIGNAL BARS will change to E/G/3G/H denoting what kind of data connections you are connected with.

Don't worry, the letter change is sometimes random, and it shows the available data connection. If your really wanna know if it's downloading anything, all you need to do is look at your reception bar, to see if there's a "mini" alphabet there, showing whichever data connection it's connected to. wink.gif

hi guys,

just got this yesterday. for its price, its a decent phone for me; i don't use 3G and i already have a dedicated GPS device.

one problem that's been bugging me though, I cant make calls using bluetooth. I have a Samsung WEP200 and Dell BH200, both cant be used to make hands free calls, the voice just come out from the phone. But stereo headset (for music player) on the Dell works.... anyone experiencing this weird problem?

p/s: I didn't install any other programs except for PHM registry; used it to hide SIM contacts.

yes, paired already. did the usual stuff: set headset to pairing mode, went to phone bluetooth devices, add new device, etc. I even see the headset icon in phone mode before dialing, but when call connected, it disappears sad.gif

thanks for the reminder smile.gif

update: just hard reset, still same problem shakehead.gif
gonna try other headsets n see, i just hope its the headset that is not compatible, not a problem with my unit.

update2: managed to connect & call with other headset, i think its my WEP200 that's not compatible, not phone problem sweat.gif

Hi guys,

just got this Viva yesterday. one prob tho, after finishing the 1st setup/installation, the TouchFlo seems fail to launch. it says there "tap here to launch TouchFlo" then i tap there, then it says "Launching TouchFlo..." then back to "tap here to launch TouchFlo" again (for 2-3 seconds).

other application and phone works fine. I able to connect to my WLAN also.

any idea guys?

perhaps you should list out the "other application" you have. must be either one of them causing ur TFlo not working.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate that smile.gif

the set is totally new, out-of-the-box, I haven't install anything, just open the box, put my sim and battery and on.

gonna go back to the shop and ask them.

Added on June 10, 2009, 10:36 pmJust now went back to the shop, tried another SIM (mine is DIGI), tried on Maxis, touchflo works!

tried on another Digi SIM, also work!

what does this mean? I need to change my SIM?

really cool feature, like iphone sort, just slide to unlock. Slide to answer also available. Neat! Work like a charm on our HTC Touch Viva/Opal.

i have few choices
1. HTC viva
2. Nokia 5800XM
3. Nokia 5530XM

my criteria is must have wifi. Can recommend me?

I notice Viva not bad, but feel 5530 is newer and performance shud be good. Izzit correct? Can viva reformat to Android?

Definitely not. The hardware is OS specific means you cant change to another OS or vice-versa.
VIVA is more for budget win-mo fans. I find win-mo to more productive especially for the office worker.

Hello guys,

Just bought 2 Viva yesterday. 1 for me and 1 for my lovely wife. Could somebody recommend me a mobile anti-virus. A free version like avira would be nice.
