Can anyone advise if it is appropriate to get a connection flight at about 1 hours later after arriving London?
Like, arriving London Heathrow at 0550, then get a connection flight to other destination (in UK still), at 0715? Do I still need to allocate a few hours more in between or don't since I will still be passing through the immigration/custom dept at the next arrival? (But I am buying the tickets separately though, KL to London by MAS, and another by BA) Thanks. |

QUOTE(magentus2002 @ Jul 26 2009, 09:12 PM) Yes it is true. By the way which part of UK u ar travelling to. Please PM me and explain the situation more clear as I might be able to help. Well, I am actually heading to newcastle after arriving london heathrow. But I am not sure if i can get the connecting flight at 0715 BA london - newcastle after arrival by mas at 0550. For the price is really showing some differences which like 50 pounds for the 0715 flight, while 81 pounds for the 0915 flight ( which it seems to be the ideal one ). Just trying to cut down some expenses on the flight issues, but since ONLY BA is operating from heathrow to newcastle, it left me without much options.I actually bought the flight tickets through the airline's website, not through agents, so i can't really be sure of all the details. And make it a little worst is that i am totally NEW to uk, so i guess i'll have to enjoy a few moments of panicking around for lost of direction and sorts... By the way, is there any special baggage allowance for students on BA? As far as i could get, it is 23kg for checked luggage, 1 cabin luggage plus 1 laptop bag ... is it possible to get more? free? ( i know about the no free lunch thing but in case there were any specially-tailored-for-student-programs out there which i have not come across about ) And there is something about the immigration/custom dept thing, do I really have to bring the TOTAL sum of funds i need in bank draft to uk, or do i get to leave some behind in my own account in a malaysia's bank? like for example, after i paid all the school fees, then i would need like 5400 pounds for my living expenses for the academic year, right? ( 600 pounds per month x 9 months academically = 5400 pounds ) But can i bring like maybe ... half of the funds ( let's say 2700 pounds ) over to the uk's bank account, while leaving the rest of it in the malaysia's bank account ( and i can still access the money in uk by using the atm card - hsbc one )? Will the authorities there require me to bring ALL of my funds over instead of partially? I was considering doing this ( 50% in uk, 50% in malaysia's bank ) so as to make my parents feel better as they MIGHT be able to monitor my financial status with some of the money still in the malaysia's account. |

QUOTE(vincent_ng86 @ Aug 4 2009, 08:54 PM) Thanks for the advice. Halted the payment now. Will only pay her when we visited the place and happy with it. Hi Vincent, seems like you have not had a fixed/confirmed address in UK when you applied for the visa?Could that applying the visa without the confirmed accommodation address works well with the visa application? Cause mine still has not has a firm answer yet on the accommodation arrangement, and the student adviser said the visa can be applied by using the university's address? Is that true? Do I have to inform anyone if I have a confirmed address later on, after I've got my visa? For now I only have my visa letter, and others except for the bank statements / letters ... normally how long would it take to get the bank statements / reference letter? (from CIMB) Thanks~ |

Hi all, I have some questions on the cash/traveler's cheque/bank draft here...
First of all, should I bring only traveler's cheque instead of cash? Reasons: Buying Traveler's cheques are cheaper because banks sell them in the lower exchange rate compare to the exchange rate they used for selling hard cash. 2. How does traveler's cheque works? - Is it like we buy it from the bank, then bring it to uk, and if i need to pay for something immediately (e.g. paying for overweight luggage surcharge in the airport, or buying some items in the tax-free shops), can i use the traveler's cheque then? Or can i cash it through the money changer in the airport? With or without any charges? 3. If I have to bring along with some hard cash + traveler's cheque + bank draft, how much should i bring for each of these? - hard cash for immediate and initial expenditure, is 200 pounds sufficient to last for 2 weeks before the bank draft being successfully transferred over? - while other expenses due to pay but not as urgent, can I use traveler's cheque instead? (e.g. paying for society fees, and etc.) 4. How long does the Bank Draft takes to transfer the funds into the UK bank's account? - i.e. HSBC bank? 5. If I use my Malaysia ATM card to withdraw some cash from the UK ATM machine, other than the RM5 surcharge for each withdrawal, what is the exchange rate they would be using when they converted the money withdrawn? (i.e. the exchange rate used for TT/OD or the exchange rate used for selling Currency Notes?) |

QUOTE(voonyee86 @ Aug 26 2009, 03:35 PM) Hi guys and gals, i am not sure whether anyone posted this question before but would be thankful if someone could help me out here =) Previously there are posts that recommends using sea freight.Currently i am taking a Uni course in London where by i need to bring a lot of equipments over(Because it is much cheaper over in M'sia). -Can anyone recommend me any Courier services that is not so expensive?(other than DHL) -Anyone know how much does it cost to Send a package of 10KG? Thank you kind mans and ladies It takes about 1-3 months to arrive in UK, but the cost is only RM120 for 20KG, isn't that a great deal? (I was actually thinking of using this to ship over all my excessive possessions~ or maybe a big box of maggie mee/milo...) Else, try using MAS cargo, i couldn't recall the price but it definitely costs more than sea freight service. |

QUOTE(~PussyDevil~ @ Aug 26 2009, 11:18 PM) If I have not mistaken, the "sponsor" thing mentioned in the VISA application means the university/school you are studying in. Unless it is stated in the Fees/Funds section where it talks about money, then it probably would be "financially sponsored", which means students sponsored by governments/organizations/etc. |

QUOTE(jasperng @ Sep 9 2009, 07:27 PM) YOu should expect your visa application status to change in the 3rd and 5th day.. any longer , be prepared for the worst lol 10days >.< ... i think if you provide sufficient and without immigration violation in the past, you should get it by 3 days now. Quite efficient. Hi Jasper,For medical checkup, general one would do. I did my medical checkup that includes HIV. hepatatis A and B . I did it in Pathlab. Remember to get Xray for chest too How much does such medical checkup costs in Pathlab? Did you have your X-Ray done in Pathlab too? Or separately in private clinics/hospitals? |

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Sep 10 2009, 02:25 PM) I suggest you do it at more 'international' laboratory with ISO standard like Gribbles instead. Especially if you are using the results overseas. HiThen do you have any information on the costs? Do they do X ray too? Do you know where I can do it in Penang? Thanks. |

--- Luggage related matter here ---
Hi, I will be flying with MAS then BA, but these 2 airlines have different set of rules applied to the luggage matter. Like the size limits and weight, where MAS tends to have smaller size limits but I can opt for their 30kg student allowances, and BA offering slightly bigger size limits but lower weight allowances at 23kg only. So, my question is: MAS will allowed me to get 5kg or 7kg on the hand carry? What about BA? 2.) If my hand luggage is slightly over the size limits, like 3-4 cm, is that alright? Or will I be forced to make it as check in piece? 3.) Am I allowed to bring in 2 pieces of check in luggage if it is still within the 30kg allowances for MAS? 4.) Is there any places I can weigh my baggage before departure? I tried using bath room scale but it proves to be hard since it makes it difficult to read the measuring. Can I bring it to the airport and ask for a weighing test to be done? Thanks. |

QUOTE(azarimy @ Sep 14 2009, 11:57 AM) is it a connecting flight? or two separate flights? Unfortunately it is two separate flights. a connecting flight is where u dont have to check-out and then check-in again. if this is so, then whatever luggage requirements will be handled during ur first and only check-in. if the first check-in says no, then no lah. But you see, since I can have 30kg for MAS, then I can(?) check in 2 pieces of luggage if my supposedly hand carry being rejected into the cabin. But my problem is, I am not sure if BA will allow 5kg or 7kg of hand carry into their cabin. (Currently I am PLANNING to bring in one 23kg check in luggage, one 7kg hand carry, and one laptop bag >= 4kg) |

HSBC passport account now charges 4pounds for the first 3 months, and 8 pounds for the subsequent months, minimum 12 month contract!
@~@ Anyone has a better suggestion than HSBC? |
