Hi anyone, i would like to check with those who ever take MAS recently about the hand luggage. can i carry a laptop bag(<4kg) and a hand luggage (<5kg) together with me on board?

This means the total will become 9kg. i just worry they will count my laptop bag and hand luggage as two pieces of item (as only one is allowed)

It is fine to have a laptop backpack and a hand carry luggage. I brought my backpack (approx. 7kg by then) plus a hand carry at 8kg, boarding on the flight from Pg-KL, KL-LHR no problem at all. All I did was placed my hand carry on the cabin above and my backpack under the seat in front. And it was September 09 then.
Btw, have you had the MAS Grads card? You will be eligible to have 30kg for check in if you are the Grads member. (but pls check with MAS for the most updated rules, it might have changed.)

anyone had any experience visiting switzerland from uk?seems like ryan air is not flying there anymore and the best deal i can find now is easyjet for around 50 pounds return in late march/early april. (from london gatwick to basel)

try Eurolines. I have just traveled from Amsterdam to Rome last week, and they did stop by in Brussels (Belgium), Luxembourg, Strasbourg (France but near Germany), Switzerland, Milan then Rome.
I am not sure if they have any direct services from UK to Switzerland, but I have actually boarded from London Victoria Coach Station to Amsterdam, then from Amsterdam to Rome. I suppose there are chances they might have UK to Switzerland services. BUT, bear in mind that traveling by bus would be a VERY VERY LONG HOUR JOURNEY!! As mine from Amsterdam to Rome took me 29 hours in the bus! (that's the price to pay for 31 euros.)

hey, some senior from Teesside U here ... biggrin.gif
welcome welcome ......
Anyway, Middlesbrough is a small town, though you canfind most items here pretty easily, as everything is within walking distance. (You just save yourself from transport $$$!!)
Though some of my seniors said that it wasn't a cold place to live in, even though it is in the northeast part of England, it should be slightly better than the real-north places ... however, I guess I am in luck, or at least i think so, this year (2009-2010) is one of the coldest year in the few decades~~ So we had our snow-friend turning everything into white blanket at about 4 inches! Hopefully you will see some snow this year too~! rclxm9.gif

People here are ok, as we have A LOT of asians, namely Pakistani, Arabians, Indians and etc ... Chinese are quite common too ... so dont worry ... you will find yourself pretty much at home ...

Btw, we have got our own Malaysian Society in Teesside Uni! Remember to look for it or ask about it when you are in the orientation or trying to apply for clubs / societies ...

Life here are manageable, just sit back and enjoy your study!

Wish you luck!
