you can't deny there's a minority which act like morons, especially the younger generations.

i often go to basketball court to play basketball with my friends and sometimes the locals will just come and play football in the court and 'accidentally' kick to ball towards us. My friend went joging alone and they threw some branches to him.
*
they do that to themselves as well, so don't worry too much about it.

Hello guys,

Can I know which telco is giving a better package for Oversea sms/call? I need to call back to Malaysia, and sms back to Malaysia quite frequently.

I know it is very cheap to use skype, in this case, how about oversea sms? So that I can sms back to Malaysia when i am on the move.
*
lebara.

or if you prefer a "highstreet" provider, o2 prepaid with international bolts on is pretty cheap ...10p per international sms

Cardiff.

Cardiff is Russell Group. Reading is not. That alone makes a big difference.
*
wad?
Being in or out of the Russel Group means nothing. It dosen't affect funding or teaching. The only thing it offers is bragging rights, where other universities try to seem connected to OxBridge.

QUOTE(C-Note @ Nov 4 2009, 02:58 PM)
Hey guys,

what are the top 10 engineering schools in UK? So far i've heard of Cambridge and Imperial College.

Thx!
*
bristol, bath, loughborough, liverpool are generally considered to be top notch.

You shouldnt look at subject rankings, but rather the overall ranking of the univerity.

i tell you the truth, an engineering degree from oxford is regardedly more highly than bristol, southampton or manchester. yes their department ranking might be higher, but really it doesnt mean much and it fluctuates every year. look at the overall ranking of the univerity.

Disagree. Try applying to any reputable engineering firm like Airbus, 42Technology, British Rail, Rolls Royce, GE... you'll find competence is always better than "ranking".

Regarding Russell Group, true there are very good unis outside the group but Reading is not one of them. Russell Group's degrees are generally very respectable. Not to say degrees from others aren't but since the group is regarded as a group of excellent universities, going to one of them provides a pretty good assurance that you are getting a top notch UK education.

Bristol and Bath are top notch in engineering. Loughborough and Liverpool are very good too but I wouldn't call them "top notch".
*
Yes, but I still wouldn't place emphasis on which group a university in affiliated to. Look at KCL's engineering dept ... it was so bad they decided to close it this year. Wonder how their graduates must feel to find their department no longer exists (considering half the Strand campus was engineering).

QUOTE(C-Note @ Nov 7 2009, 10:02 AM)
Thanks for the input. I heard that Sheffield has collaborations with Rolls Royce? Coz i'm interested in doing aeronautical engineering but the only factor that deters me and parents is the job prospect that specific field offers in Malaysia. I don't wish to live too far away from parents. What sort of companies would hire such professionals in Malaysia?
Oh btw i've got this list from Mr Google.
http://www.usnews.com/articles/education/w...iversities.html
There are only like 4 UK unis in there. Cambridge,Imperial,Oxford and Manchester. Seems biased to me though.
*
wonder how that list was created. where are the russian, brazillian and german universities ?

A comparison between IC and Birmingham Univ

Tuition fees for civil engineering:
IC: £18000
Birmingham: £11000

Expenses: (Average among all my friends per month)
London: £700
Birmingham: £450

I believe tuition fees for Birmingham are about the same as Nottingham, Sheffield Bath etc..

If you add up the expenses for Birmingham, it will be equal to the amount you spend just for IC's tuition fees.

*
Not for Bath, it's GDP 140000 for science courses : http://www.bath.ac.uk/international/financ...ition-fees.html

This dosen't include the exam fees.

IC is 150000 including all assesment fees.

UCL is listed along with other low-ranking unis like Napier U, Kingston U, Heriot-Watt .. sweat.gif Also got Nottingham & Surrey but if I were to study in UK for a year, I'd prefer to be in London for the olympics
*
Might as well go to Bath Uni .. tops for Engineering & Business

AND

the Malaysian Olympics team is training there ... ( as well as Japan, China etc ). Imagine bumping into their athletes on the way to lectures biggrin.gif

450 pounds - 600 pounds per month is not enough?

I live quite comfortably on ~500gbp a month. 300-ish for rent, 100 for phone, utilities, bus fares ... and another 100 for food & going out.

any savings goes towards my travel & drinks fund tongue.gif

Not me. My pre-session course is compulsory and my uni said they'll kick me out if i dont arrive on time.

This is for masters at oxbridge btw. Not comfortable in revealing which one in case people know my identity.

*
1st of all, congrats !

and they won't kick you out if you're late ... but you'll have to stay back abit longer after term ends. some thing known as "keeping term" since every student needs to spend a certain number of nights on campus.

I hope so. Their letter is so serious about wanting people to get in on time. Apparently the course is difficult that you can't really survive it without attending the full pre-session course.  cry.gif

well ... I just hope you enjoy what you've applied to read ! otherwise , theres always college booze to keep your spirits up tongue.gif

QUOTE(Lifeless@_@ @ Jul 29 2010, 11:21 PM)
can any1 lemme noe how to pursue masters degree (engineering) in UK universities? how does the application process work & what are the requirements?

if possible, do include details on cost of living & scholarships available =)
*
I would think a minimum of 2:1 would be the standard requirement of any good post grad program. I won't suggest looking at league tables tho .. this changes (in big ways!) almost every year. Rather look at the uni website, they have the course layout there for public access ... see which suits you best.

Here in the UK , most people regard , Imperial, Bath, Bristol, & Cambridge to be good for their under&post grad engineering programmes ... again, very general .. but hope it helps !

irrc, i have been checking since May, airasia tickets are alot cheaper than other airlines only around RM1.2k++ ... but take note, airasia plane seats cannot decline (for the cheapest fare) and the plane doesnt land on Heathrow or Gatwick .. good part is its cheap and straight flight compared to others ..

another good alternative for budgeted ones are Thar Airways, iirc, its around 1.6k-1.7k, transit at thailand airport, fastest total flight hrs are around 17hrs ...
normall allowance is 20kg, if counter fella is good u can go up to 25kg without paying .. but if u exceed 25kg then u gotta pay for it ... max is 40kg to 45kg i think ...
*
I think not landing at Heathrow is actually a really good thing. Stanstead & Gatwick are so much more convenient.

Besides Thai, Brunei airliners have good fares too.
