oh... soli... correction..

vios, myvi those are using multi-link beam axle suspension for rear setup.... front i guess should be macpherson struts as well (couldnt confirm)....

user posted image

nowadays mosts cars are having either macpherson struts or double wishbone suspension for the front....

macpherson strut diagram.... found in most compact FF cars....

user posted image

double wishbone suspension... found is more expensive / sports car...

somehow, I wouldn't call those rear suspension as multilink, more like "trailing arm fixed beam axle", i.e. when right side move up/down, the left will be affected.. i.e. not independent.. due to the lateral beam connecting the left and right side hub..
multilink should be used for Independent type suspension.

there are many names used to refer undercarriage parts.

anyhow, to enlighten people here, the crossmember that the_catacombs mentioned about is found in Proton Iswara / Wira / Satria / Waja. if refer to EON's spare part catalogue, they named is as Engine Support Member.

the crossmember i was emphasizing is horizontal at the left and right chassis. this is called the Suspension Crossmember Front which mounts the lower arm.

for the rear suspension, that piece which some foreman call it the drumstick is the Trailing Arm.

if u see under a macpherson strut suspension, there is no centre 'crossmember' hold the left and right side of the front lower arm... left and right lower arm is independently bolted to the chassis...

trailing arm is what old saga iswara is using as its rear suspension...

sure is lower arm? Cause lower arm can be change.. Since you driving SGTI, go half cut and get evo 3 lower arm.. It lighter and more solid.. icon_rolleyes.gif As I know, all the part inside a car can be change.. Only chasis cannot be change.. biggrin.gif

this kind of arm is semi independent, each side suspension can move independently but the camber remain fixed under movement..this old tech seldom used anymore..a bit similar to the trailing arm in kancil

the one in vius is torsion beam which mean either side movement will affect the other, added the absorber and spring made from jelly, one side camber added will reduce from the other side.. doh.gif

The crossmember is part of the lower support for the engine (also known as the lower engine mounting) in wiras, satrias and putras. It doesnt connect to the suspension as catacombs has shown in the pic with the iswara/saga.Independant mcpherson bolts to the chasis if im not mistaken.

As for david, yes the arm can be replaced but new ones cost quite a bit.The last time i checked with proton,a set would easily set you back rm450 without installation.(Bear in mind this is the "dead" arm used on iswaras where the rear arm is fixed and is not adjustable)
Chop shop ones cost in the range of rm120 - rm250 depending on age and condition.
