issit iphone 2g or iphone 3g?
if 2g just backup everything and then JB and activate it...
if ure using 3g iphone... then...
the only option is to use sim adapter....
there's no way of unlocking the iphone 3g yet...

then just slide ur sim card in. ure using smart adapter right? means it kindda unlock the sim card for u....
unless u want to upgrade it... but 2.2FW is not recommended for sim adapter user...

did u try hard reset? hold the power and home for 10 sec then release the power button but hold the home button thingie?

did she try the DFU mode? the thing where u have to push the power and the home button for 10 sec.. bla.. bla...bla.....
