reminds me of GoW too, but since its done finish yet, coz they gonna add x100 more cinemation finishing moves and other stuff so its hard to tell, now its leaked, will need sometime to even do the announce but i bet it wouldn't won't stop the game design progress.

More blood... More screaming on the cultist part... hope I won't be stuck with the same bolter throughout the game... Maybe can get a hammer or force blade or plasma gun while I'm dreaming? LOL... And maybe some company while we're at it... Don't you feel lonely running around by urself? The scale of fights are too small in the preview...

Hope it gets real big and messy with all sort of stuff flying off the chaos marines lol...

Yeah,GoW style will be awesome.

Imagine you have a squad of marines.Some use bolters,plasma gun,Power Fist,Daemon Hammer.....

Lastly, they need to have randomised models because most TT models are randomised.

the game is so dark that the demo needed shots to be fired to light up the place. i hope the game will also be scary when enemies jump out of the dark... maybe tyranids!

i also hope the game will have massive massacre. currently, the video only shows the SM attacking groups of 3 to 5. that's only so because the foes in the video are also equivalent CSMs. maybe the orks can help simulate that!

ah, i'm guessing the game will be ready mid 09.... hope it does appear on ps3!

here's to hoping!

nice graphics and effects but looks like boring gameplay. that plane keeps flying around that same area. the cinematics while cool in the beginning is gonna be irritating after you've seen it for the 100th time. Let's hope there's team play...

Amen to that. There's one part where he's suppose to like thrust the blade through the chaos marine... but it ran right pass it, but the chaos marine still fell splat on the floor... Owh, and he keeps going on about "100s of killing moves", but I keep seeing the same bland one.... I'd be happy with at least 3-4 for each enemy ^^

OOO... hope we can cut up more than just chaos forces... maybe some of them ork boyz tongue.gif

And here's to hoping that it doesn't turn into a button mashing fest cheers.gif... the overkill sequence really looks like it'll break flow lol

This video is really early in the development, they have time to change basically everything.

I do hope they make it gory, slaughter like.

I used to play Fire Warrior, the game itself sucked but I loved the transcription of the WH40K universe in a FPS. Hope they can make something of very good quality, the universe deserves some good gory gritty pwnage imo tongue.gif

Meanwhile can play Team Fortress 2 with Warhammer 40k skins:

QUOTE
Team Fortress...Warhammer 40K...two very different beasts, but bring them together and you've got...a very different beast.

This clip shows a work-in-progress skin pack for Team Fortress 2, bringing Space Marines to the dusty battlefields of Valve's shooter.

It may look a little strange to see the big guys running around wooden barns at such a speed, but when the Emperor calls, the Space Marines must answer.

This game will have no "cover system", which means the marine uses an ancient Japanese combat tactic which is called the "Banzai!!!" tactic.

Seriously, how would that even work, I dont know what are these developers thinking.
Just because ppl will compare them to Gears of War (which brings the pun Gears of Warhammer)
they didnt wanna include cover system.

*
As the Relic guys said "Cover is for pussies' tongue.gif

In a way I can also understand what the guy said with cover system breaking action and reducing fights to "whack a mole" kind of stuff.

Stay in cover, shoot one guy, back to cover, wait for health to regenerate, shoot another guy, maybe do 3 steps to another cover, rinse and repeat.
I don't blame them for trying to do something different (like how they quite changed their stuff between DoW1 and DoW2), let's see the result first smile.gif

And if they go the full "Space Marines like in fiction way", they really really do not need cover tongue.gif
I have read lots of novels in WH40K and in most of them Space Marines are way more hardcore than what they can put into the tabletop or video games for balance purpose.

I think they want to give a "full action" game, go in, shoot some bolts, go into melee and hack stuff, a bit of old school hack and slash stuff.

A Date With A Space Marine
QUOTE
Do Space Marines go on dates? “You have the most gorgeous geneseed.” “If I said you have a beautiful flamer, would you let me burn the heretic with it?” “In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war, and your eyes.”

Anyway! Relic’s upcoming orkshooter Space Marine has finally been granted something like a release date. It’s been on the horizon for about 40,000 years already, but now all of a sudden it’s turning up in August. This August, that is. So just five months until the Ultramarine’s Captain Titus sticks his Power Fist into the maw of various non-human scum (which were earlier this week confirmed to include the forces of Chaos). 2011 sure is a busy year for expensive-looking video games.

Everything You Need To Know About The Story And Setting Of Space Marine

QUOTE
Mike Fahey — Everything You Need To Know About The Story And Setting Of Space MarineEverything You Need To Know About The Story And Setting Of Space Marine Fans familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 universe are incredibly excited about THQ and Relic Entertainment's Space Marine for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. Players not familiar with the universe have no idea what's going on. This video fixes that.

Kotaku employs gamers and geeks from all walks of fandom, and sometimes it's hard to write without assuming that everyone else loves the same things we do. So when we write about a game like Relic's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, it's easy for us to gloss over small details, like where the game takes place, what the conflict is about, who the major players are.

Thankfully Relic and THQ are here to fill you in, so we don't have to state at you, mouths agape with disbelief, before explaining it ourselves.

from other gameplay videos i watched, the autocannon is just ripped out from a heavy weapons platform.

Terminators use assault cannons i believe. Anyhow it will be a total waste of opportunity if the game doesnt feature Terminators

Yar, autocannon arent codex weapon for Terminator armors, assault cannon are (heavy flamers too which could be fun in the game!)

And agreed, must have at least one mission in a terminator amor, bonus points if it's in a space ship and you can go through walls and stuff...

I am not usually a huge fan of this type of game but this one simply attract me because of the WH40K universe, could have been fun to play as Ork or Chaos SM too, Ultrasmurfs are ok but a bit bland.

And it would be super duper nice to have titans shown in the game, definitely cannot control one of course but to have them fight in the same battleground as you would be awesome if they render their power well (imagine the noises and effect...)

Actually I don't think I remember a game where you had such big machines shown fighting around you in a FPS/TPS world (except space shit games of course), only ones I remember is stuff like AT&T and co in Star Wars, but these are tiny and almost weaponless compare to all but scout titans

I'm pretty sure the guys at relic know this, and we might actually be part of a titan's battle one way or another...

However the model/concept art shown in the interview video is the fortress class or w/e its stated sized titan.

To give you guys an idea how big....Imagine the empire state building stack on itself atleast 5 or 10 x over....

The Volcano cannon thats attached to the under arm of that monster is already as large as a cruise ship in reality.

Yar, would be surprised if they don't take advantage of using Titans in battles, would be a real waste.

Space battles too (Space Marines armors are void-capable after all and a Space Hulk boarding battle would be lots of fun)

I can't see the video but the biggest titans are up to 150m tall, medium ones are betwenn 40 to 60 and the "scout titans" are about 20-25 meters

Hopefully relic don't let us down, but with their record on WH40K and GW looking over their shoulders, I am semi confident we would get something fitting for Wh40K lore

THQ gets "multi-year extension" to Warhammer 40k license
QUOTE

user posted image

Corks are popping over at THQ offices as they've secured an extension to their license for Warhammer 40k from Games Workshop for "all relevant platforms".

THQ's Dawn of War series from Relic Entertainment has sold over 6.5m copies to date. Space Marine is next in line, followed by MMO Dark Millennium Online.

Space Marine releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC later this year. THQ has been working feverishly on the Warhammer 40k MMO Dark Millennium Online too which is still a long way off before seeing a release.

"The impressive translation of the Warhammer 40,000 universe from the tabletop to the video game space by THQ certainly highlights the potential of our most successful intellectual property in the right hands," said Games Workshop CEO Mark Wells.

according to the pre-order page on official site, there are at least four more chapter skins (2 for chaos): black templar, space wolves, Emperor's Children and Iron Warriors.

you have to get your black templar skin from gamestop lol. Most liklye we can get the rest of the chapter skin via dlc.

I rather see these skins in DOW 2 Retribution...atleast you have more variety of chapters......now only if Relic understands that all space marine chapters are not the same from one another = =...

According to how the skins work for 'space marine' you get them for the MP mode ?

There are not normal humans, and they dont even play like normal humans.

Space Marines probably have portrayed the warhammer lore in the most accurate way in a Relic game so far. DoW2/1's one is pretty rubbish, as few space marines might get killed buy a bunch of Slugga's. In Space Marine, they grind 40 Slugga for breakfast and only left with puddles of blood.

Thats how badass a space marine should be.

Heard there is co-op too. Seriously, they even gave 2 space marines following you, if they dont let you to control them, that would be a huge waste.

Lore means SM are pretty badass but it really depends of the writer and story

Like if the novel/fluff is about SM then they chuck norris in power amors.

If the novel/fluff is about IG they are usually never seen or IG leader can battle easily with Chaos SM or gain respect from Imperial marines (like in Gaunt novels)

If the novel/fluff is about SM enemies then they have butter armor and pansies guns (Storm of Iron etc, some short stories.)

If you go the "fair" way SM are indeed pretty badass and superhuman but far from invincible, especially the "basic" tactical marine. Lots of creature/badass/weapon in WH40k universe that can crunch a SM in pulp.

For a random example a "basic" Chaos Marine from one of the original Legions is supposed to be:
A SM
PLUS 10,000 years experience (compared to the 100-300 years in average of a imperial SM)
PLUS Chaos Powers (mutation, spells, special demon-weapons etc.)
MINUS Faith to the Emperor (And They Shall Know No Fear)
MINUS Some of the new tech Imperial SM have (plasma weapons, stormbotler, razorbacks etc.)
PLUS Some of the old tech the Imperial SM can't have anymore since they lost it in the past 10K years (some genetic advancement or armor gadgets)

I would say it's more than an equal match... or in a game like Space Marine a Chaos SM will most probably become fodder... and a single marine will easily beat 10 of them at the same time

Though personally I will greatly enjoy the game for sure, Coop or not but it's hard to say how powerful SM "should" be smile.gif

"While the enemies of the Emperor still draw breath, there can be no peace."

More seriously I think they can make it more interesting with different enemies, the map level and extra stuff like Jetpacks and co. New weapon unlocks also can keep it interesting.

I remember seeing some sequence in thunderawks and Orks "planes" for example.

And please make it a story at least half interesting, Wh40k has such potential...

It's really not that hard to make a half-decent story with WH40k, unless the writer is spectacularly bad. There's just so much material and lore to take from.

Even a half-decent re-enactment Battle of MacCragge will be fun.

on the side note, to those who played bionic commando the air level where you jump from airships to airships,

you reckon it would be similar? hmm.gif

and yes, the lore of warhammer 40k indeed is vast and never fails to keep people interested, just hope that some other races/aliens make it this time

chaos = deception/heresy
orks = bloodbath/getting rid of pest (unless its that ork warlord from armageddon)
tau = diplomatic problem
eldars = space elves think everything other ppl doing is wrong
tyranids = zergs from starcraft invading warhammer 40k

I remember something about titans too but the "playing with Titans" was more in the there will be titans also in the battle field and you fight around them.

Not like you will be actually controlling the titans (think that's what you mean right?)

But that would be damn awesome already if they do a Warlord or "gasp" an Emperor-class Titan in game, the "small" titans are nice already but lack in the "WOAW" factor really ^^

If they do that it could be the biggest land based machine I would have seen in a video game actually.

I remembered that there was only one Warhammer 40k game that we can play as Titans. Some turn-based game.

I'm a huge 40k fan but I've been nothing but disappointed with the conversion from tabletop to PC. The only game that has kept me entertained is DoW2. Yes, even Space Hulk 1 & 2 disappointed me. The PC games didn't do the board game justice.

As for Space Marine, I'll buy ONLY if I get to kill those dandelion eaters (eldar). They annoy me sooooooo much.

Also, Blood Angels > Ultramarine (or any other chapter for that matter) flex.gif

According to lore, the Princeps (titan operator) is bonded mentally in a complex ritual with the titan, which has a sentient CPU. The titan can go berserk if they yanked out the original princeps and plug in another mind incorrectly.

Most likely u will be fighting in and around a titan to protect it while it engages another titan... that battle will be epic rclxms.gif

The Titan has an AI personality yar, usually one of an aggressive animal like a grizzly or some animal like that. It's not a full personality but more like an "imprint". Like the titan might be more "keen" to attack than retreat, likes to finish off an ennemy and co, making it easier to control in this kind of situation than in some other that the titan does not "like".

And Princeps have to harmonize with this personality which get tougher as the titan gets older and bigger thus only very experienced princeps can command the biggest titans. But they can unplug themselves and go around, they are not like permanently linked

Any non trained person who get plugged to the titan would get overwhelmed by the titan's personality and have their mind pretty much destroyed

Fighting around one of the big titan in a first person (or third person, I mean when looking through a human point of view) would indeed be totally awesome smile.gif

In the another interview by gamespot....at thier booth

it was asked if the player could actually play or drive a TiTan class mech....according to the creative direct "Ralf" he said that they will some how let the player have some form of control over that.

I've a feeling we might see enemy daemons the size of a tower or even Ork mechs which rival the Titan class mechs.

However from the concept arts, they have only drawn those citidel class titans. So I wonder if you actually get to be inside a titan while fighting tons of chaos forces XP...

Could be that our Captain will be able to give some orders or direction to a Titan that is fighting along side.

Something like "Start covering fire" or thing like that.

Didnt think about fighting INSIDE a titan, that's a good idea but it may not be that "special" for most of it, metal corridors, metal doors etc.

Titans do indeed get assaulted by ennemy infantry and usually have a complement of IG or Mechanicus troops (Skitarris) inside their legs to fight against that.
Or they also serve as transport for whole companies of IG/Space Marines and drop them later on right in the middle of the battle.

Space Marine has Steamy system requirements

user posted image

QUOTE
THQ has shared the tentative system requirements for Warhammer 40k: Space Marine on their official forums, revealing that the upcoming action game will require a Steam account. This is actually more interesting than the specs themselves, as it heavily implies they've decided to once again eschew Games For Windows LIVE for Steamworks with the Warhammer 40,000 series. Precedent for this motion was set with the release of the latest expansion for Dawn of War II, but now we may have a trend rather than an isolated incident.

Of course we're all waiting with bated breath to hear an official confirmation as to whether Relic's latest will have Steamworks functionality, which will surely be coming as the game's release date of September 6th nears. Oh, and if you're still curious as to what the minimum and recommended specs for the game are, here you go:

    Minimum Configuration

OS - Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1, Windows 7
Processor - 2.0Ghz Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or AMD X2 or better)
        RAM - 1GB (XP), 2GB (Vista), 2GB (Windows 7)
Hard Drive - 20 GB space free (10 GB free after install)
Video Card - 256MB Video Card using Shader Model 3 & DirectX 9.0 or better (Performance equivalent to an AMD Radeon 3850 or NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT)
        Online Steam account

    Recommended Configuration

        OS - Windows 7
Processor - Any Quad-core AMD or Intel Processor
        RAM - 1GB (XP), 2GB (Vista), 2GB (Windows 7)
Hard Drive - 20 GB space free (10 GB free after install)
Video Card - 512MB Video Card using Shader Model 3 & DirectX 9.0 or better (Performance equivalent to an AMD Radeon 5750 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260)
        Online Steam account

Spotted on PC Gamer.

Relic remains committed to PC development
QUOTE
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine developer Relic Entertainment stated in an interview with Eurogamer that PC game development remains their priority, despite piracy and high-profile leaks in the industry.

According to marketing manager James McDermott, "(Piracy) is always a concern as a company, but it’s not one which is driving the decision to make PC."

McDermott continued, "THQ has quite good traction with PC sales. Steam numbers continue to be really good for us. Relic have been into PC games for a long time. We’re still seeing a lot of good numbers can come from that market. We still think it’s viable. We’ve already seen pre-orders are pretty high for PC on Steam."

He added, "Some people just think it would be easier if PC went away. I just get that sense sometimes. It’s because PC is such a tailored market in terms of the kind of platform you have to have. The barrier to entry is a lot higher than just, go and buy a console." McDermott then concluded, "It just seems like there’s more complexity to it, which is probably somewhat true. But it is a great platform. For first-person shooters, that’s still where I want to play."

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be released on September 9.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine multiplayer preview: Class warfare

user posted image

QUOTE
We've seen THQ's Warhammer 40K: Space Marine a few times now, and it's shaping up pretty well as a sort of "Gears of Warhammer 40K." The Space Marines are a huge part of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K lore, and Relic Games has placed them into a third-person shooter, skillfully combining run-and-gun and melee combat with lots and lots of Ork killing.

Last week, THQ finally showed off the game's multiplayer at an event in Santa Monica, and what we got to see there was an interesting, if a little shallow, class-based shooter. It features some really careful class balancing, and an armor customization system, fittingly called "The Customizer," that should make even the most ardent of Warhammer 40K fans happy.

Hands on the MP part of Space Marine on RPS:

RPS

Sounds actually fun, now I am really tempted to pre-order...

It's a steamwork game right? I want to get it on GG (to get bluecoins) if I can activate it later on Steam.
Plus it's 5usd cheaper right now and they also give the free copy of Darksiders (I can't be bothered with the Blood Angels skin, I have my own colours from tabletop)

From GG and intend to register it to Steam once it's released.
This way I can download it from both parties, I get it 5usd cheaper and I get blue coins from it (plus it made me go Red colour on GG, more discounts in the future).

And the free copy of Darksider given by GG is also registrable on Steam by the way.

I can't be bothered about the Blood Angels skin on Steam and this kind of premium is always released as DLC later on

@Cheese: After looking around it looks like a "Cleanse" mode is announced as Coop in which you can "co-op for up to a squad of five marines taking on wave after wave of enemies"

I can't find an official link to this though but it apparently was leaked in an handson article a while back which has then been put offline.

Some people saying there is some info in it in this Youtube Video (some Dev diary) but since I am in GCG I can't watch Youtube video, maybe you guys can check:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGToH9mQTjY (No it's not a rickroll)

I think yes, on Steam it's at 49,95 and on GG it's at 45,95 with "List Price" at 49,95

So that + bluecoins + it's steamwork anyway made it a no brainer to me.

I found this article Clicky-click-clik

There is a sentence that runs "McDermott could tell me that co-op will be in there, but could not tell me any more than that."

So I would say there Coop will be in it somehow but the exact form is yet to be officially announced.

One hand I can understand Relic saying they don't want to release all the info in one go to keep people interested until release date.
On the other hand not giving some crucial details like presence of Coop or not is imo a bad move for pre-order numbers

THQ releases a new Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine trailer
QUOTE
Relic Entertainment's third-person shooter Warhammer 40.000: Space Marine has just received a brand new trailer to tease its over-the-top and brutal action.

The real-time strategy developer is stepping into the action genre with Space Marine, where we play as Captain Titus who must defend the Imperial Forge World.

That's pronounced Ti-tus, not Tit-us, presumably. A huge Ork invasion has the Imperial forces reeling and only the Space Marines are badass enough to blow stuff up and take names. The Forge World makes all those fancy tanks and guns so if the Orks take it...

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC September 6th in the US, 9th in Europe. Are you excited as Relic try out a third-person shooter?

Co-op will be added to Space Marine post-release

user posted image

QUOTE
Bluesnews is reporting that a post on the Space Marine Forums has revealed that co-op support for the upcoming third person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be added after the game's release.

The post also details when the co-op mode will be added, and what will be involved:

1.) Space Marine will have Co-Op added in 30 days give or take after launch.
a.) Why? We wanted to polish up the Co-Op aspect of Space Marine.
2.) The GameStop Co-Op call out was old information and we have a nice slate of info to cover all your Co-Op needs.
3.) Everyone who purchases Space Marine at retail (brand new) will get Co-Op for FREE. If you buy the game one year from now the Co-Op option will still be Free as long as the game is sealed brand new from retail.

It seems that the co-op mode is less about "polishing" the game, and more about combating rentals and used game sales.

Space Marine single-player demo set for this month

user posted image

QUOTE
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will receive a demo later this month. THQ has announced that a demo for the upcoming Ork-slayer will arrive on PC and Xbox 360 on August 22. The PlayStation 3 version of the demo will arrive the following day, August 23.

The single-player demo will feature two levels, including a battle outside a munitions factory and "a taste of the exhilarating Jump Pack sequences." The press release also notes that players who pre-order Space Marine on Steam will receive early access to the title during the weekend of August 18 (not to mention a free copy of Darksiders). During the promotion, Steam will be offering a sale on bundled Warhammer 40,000 titles.

I'd usually buy anything Warhammer related but the game looks a bit too... flashy, I guess? In my mind 40k universe is grim, there is only war and lots of shouting.

I am not sure what you guys expected by Grimdark in this screenshot?

Marines (and especially Ultrasmurfs) keep their armor and weapons shiny, cleaned and in good order so you couldnt really expect some untidy Ultramarines outside of battles.

The armor of the IG is already less polished.

The Grimdark of Warhammer 40K comes mostly from the background where life in it is cheap and individuals are sacrificed in their millions/billions without much remorse, planets get rased/exterminated/devored on a daily basis etc.

For this game looks like the background is a ForgeWorld taken over by Orks and that Ultrasmurfs need to retake with later involvement by Chaos Marines.
Lots and lots of shouting, cutting up and dismemberment expected with a touch of fighting on top of warplanes and along titans... sounds pretty true to Wh40k universe to me

On a site note I cant really identify the weapon that Smurf on the left is holding?! Doesnt look like a Plasma gun (there is no drum on them and they usually have that blue energy bar on the side) or bolter to me (the one behind holds one and it looks nothing like the one in front) or a flamer anything I know are in use by marines

I guess that is the new grenade launcher Relic came up with just for the game.

It must be a Consecrated Bolter! Whatever that may be. It was in Retribution but it doesnt seem to derive from the lore...

Also this is the first time I've heard of "grimdark" term, didnt even know about it before.

My idea was a grenade launcher too yar (with the drum charger and all) but it doesnt really really make much sense to have Marines use one, their arm can launch a grenade pretty damn far already and with good accuracy but well...

At least as far I know I never saw marines using one in any codex or novels I read.

But well, can also see why they added more weapons to the game, add to variety

lol, the typical portrayal of SPEEESH MAHREEENS are usually grim, constipated face warriors ready to do hurt. *them in the screenshot doesn't look like it, hence the jibe* tongue.gif

Well, that sorta got dispelled, when they got humanized by Dan Abnett (well, he made Autolochus, the Iron Snake Dreadnought a character with a god damn good sense of humour),William King, Kevin Hoare, and those TBL writers.

They used to stock them in various book shops in KL but the last few times I checked it was becoming less and less.

Try Kinokunya in KLCC, they used to have the biggest stock I saw.

Or you can always ask them to order it for you if you know the title, takes a bit of time to come but it's better than gambling on what they will have in stock when you go

MPH was ok also yar, especially the one in Midvalley for me for some reason
But I found they stock pretty much always the same titles and some of other they never have in stock.

Like you can have 2 books of a trilogy always there but 1 is always missing and need to order.

yeah, i tried getting the complete paperback copies of Gaunt's Ghost, still missing a few books, i have all of them in .pdf tho. Just that i prefer to read books than stare at screen.

But apparently they do have some exotic copies such as the Space Marine Battles series, and a heck load of Warhammer Fantasy ones, at least the one i go to in Ipoh.

Yar, I am half way through it but I keep getting sidetracked with other books.

It's not bad, sometimes story is a little weak around the edges but it gives some light in some part of the fluff that isnt that well developed otherwise. And Horus Heresy was pretty much the defining moment of WH40K fluff, the galaxy hasnt changed that much since then really

Pre-order only, get the Blood Raven's skin pack and Darksiders FOC biggrin.gif

Managed to play the demo, one mission before I left for work. How the hell do you kill the Nob?? I have to use my special meter(?) to take him out or else I'd die. Anyway, the control scheme is quite smooth. Transition from shooter to melee nicely.
*
Basically a lot of backwards straffing and some Vengence before trying to stun him a few times. Didn't use Fury at all (cuz I forgot laugh.gif).

For people who don't have early access to the demo through Steam (if for example like me you pre-ordered it on GamersGate instead), try to check if you are member of the "Honour Guard", just needed to register on Spacemarine website a while back and subscribe to the newletters.

Just got the news Honour Guard also get early access, go to www.SpaceMarine.com/Demo, login and you will get a Steam code to activate the Demo smile.gif

Downloading demo now

What?

If you preorder now, even if they add the items later, you would still get them.
But I doubt they simply change the bonuses now, it's too close to the release.

Plus you already getting a free full game and some bonus skin, not every goddamn game has to give some tf2 stuff really...

Hopefully there really will be Tyranids in the full game.

Demo not bad, quite liked it.

Very very gory but well, it's a chainsword... can't expect poetry

Kinda like the mix ranged/melee, feels smooth.

Just wished the bolter would be auto shooting (ie when I keep my mouse button down, it keeps firing) than shot by shot.
Could be something available in full game though.

That and I couldnt get to my 1920X1080 resolution, was stuck in some lower one, not sure if can change or not (options seemed topped to 13XX something)

Quite happy I pre-ordered now smile.gif

There's 1920x1080 if I'm not mistaken. You have to change the aspect ratio in the video options.

Yar, I redid the Inquisitor mission and yar the bolter is full auto, didnt also understood first time I could do right CTRL to "zoom" in for better aiming.

Makes the sniper and even normal bolter much more efficient in long range.

Also found the power axe at the lift, pure carnage after =D

And did manage to get 1920X1080, was hidding among all the ratios. This is a bit of a stupid decision, just get a drop list with all the resolutions and people can choose directly...

So far so good, quite happy with the game and I hope the full thing delivers. I pray for a SP that at least keep me busy for a bit. Then MP, hopefully can play with not too much ping issue

TWo missions, one that lets you get a feel of the story and gun gameplay as well as a hidden power axe demo
the 2nd is about the jump pack mechanics...thats completely action based.

For the Nob Ork (the big one) I usually either shoot him from afar and backpedal like a mofo.

Or I use some big stun Right Click + Right Click + F
This usually stun then, then Execution (you will then need to click left button like a mofo to win the strenght content)

Then BLAM, you remove the head of the nob with your hands..... =D

Oh man I gotta comb the levels more to find that power axe. Oh well, play it one more time! =)

Btw, mods for the demo are out! You want Titus to have a beard? Sure. How about a cyborg head? Hell yeah! Or maybe Ultramarines aren't cutting it out for you and you want him to wear other chapter colours. It's possible!

Check it out here:

That axe is near the lift.

If you are facing the gate where the ork charge in, look at your right and you will see a small citadel-like structure, and inside is the power axe.

FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU- time to buy the game

QUOTE
Space Marine Co-op: Stand Together, Die Alone

At this point just about every shooter coming out has some form of "survive as long as possible" cooperative mode. Space Marine joins the crowd with a mode called Exterminatus; a four-player survival mode that pits your few marines against an untold multitude of orks. Far from breaking the mold, this uninventive mode is nonetheless still fun, and should give day-one purchasers something to look forward to when it releases some 30 days after Space Marine's launch.

Win Your Own Space Marine Chainsword

user posted image

QUOTE
Few video game weapons are more ridiculous than Space Marine's chainsword. Few contest prizes are more ridiculous than a life-size replica of said chainsword. And yet that's exactly what you can win next week thanks to a giveaway from THQ.

Warhammer 40K fans should head to the Space Marine Facebook page to sign up for a week's worth of giveaways. Here's what you can win:

Day 1 (Thursday, September 1): 500 Xbox Live Premium Space Marine Themes
Day 2 (Friday, September 2): 10 Space Marine Collector's Editions
Day 3 (Saturday, September 3): 1,000 Xbox Live Avatar Props
Day 4 (Sunday, September 4): Custom Airbrushed console (Xbox 360 or PS3)
Day 5 (Monday, September 5): Chainsword

I can't speak to the quality of the other prizes, but the chainsword will really brighten up your desk. I can't guarantee your boss will appreciate it as much as mine, however.

Space Marine will be available for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on September 6.

Just got home.

Tested the game a bit.

Quite enjoyable. Melee takes a bit getting used to with mouse and keyboard. Shooting part is really easy with mouse.

Might try it with my Xbox 360 controller later.

Lol, watching my brother play his account.....3 hours lvl 15....wtf

Different classes have thier own unique OP traits lol..

Assaults with vengence and charge traits can easily overwhelm Tacticals or Devs, while Devs with HBs and 'Feel No Pain' trait can easily overpower anything once hunkered down....

Looks so addictive and its seriously brutal once you start getting the mechanics.

Relic: Space Marine was "tricky transition," RTS expertise helped

QUOTE
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War developer Relic Entertainment is known for its real-time strategy offerings, with Company of Heroes also part of its pedigree.

However they wanted to "go down on the ground" with the Space Marine, shifting gears to third-person. Their RTS knowledge "translated really well" to it.

"It was a tricky transition, and there were certainly some growing pains," said Relic's Matt Rose. "As we looked to make Space Marine, there was a lot of stuff that we liked about The Outfit, but there were certainly some things that could be improved upon."

The studio tried its hand at console development with 2006's The Outfit for Xbox 360, which blended third-person with real-time strategy elements.

"We had a lot of really good designers who could design weapon and unit balance and the sort of 'rock, paper, scissors' aspect of some of the RTS games," added Rose.

"That translated really well to third-person shooter development, but we had to add some expertise." Relic took on developers who had history with Crytek, Microsoft, Electronic Arts and other well known console focused houses.

THQ wasn't resistant to the idea of Space Marine revealed the associate producer. "There wasn't a lot of convincing that had to be done," he said, as Relic put together a number of bite size prototypes of the project before getting green lit.

"Our mission statement is to make excellent games, not to just make excellent RTS games. The reason we wanted to do Space Marine was because there were a lot of people here who were super-passionate about the game and the idea," Rose said.

"We'd been making Dawn of War, for so long, everyone wanted to make a game where you got to go down on the ground level with the space marine, and control that character. And we want to build up our skillset and our base to develop on as many platforms as possible."

"We want to be in the business of creating new, successful, critically-acclaimed franchises," he added. "And I think that's true across both THQ and Relic. Also, we want to continue with the franchises that we have, that the fans love and the fans want more of."

"Looking to add new and exciting franchises is a really big opportunity for THQ and for Relic, and Space Marine is certainly a step in that direction."

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this week. Do you have confidence in Relic Entertainment delivering an action-packed Space Marine

Depends how well you play the game....you got the skills for the emperor on the hardest difficulty?

if you do it would take you atleast 4 hours to reach the end of Part 2. (which is around 17 chapters)

Then you have another 2 parts to complete before you finish the game...overall your looking at around 17 hours - 20 hours of SP time. according to Relic.

MP isn't bad...quite addictive actually.....not sure why people complain about the p2p stuff ...guese you guys never played Retribution.

The mp mode is quite enjoyable. The lag isnt that bad as i imagined and most of the time matchmaking put me into games with greenbars.

The combatants need some battlecries from DoW. I need those cheesy lines like "For the Emprah!" when i captured a point or "Purge the unclean!" when going on a killstreak. The combat feels a bit dull when all you hear are clanking sounds and grunts.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine out in UK, disappears on Steam

QUOTE
THQ and Relic Entertainment's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, the third-person action-RPG, is now released on PC in the UK but it's MIA on Steam.

The Steamworks-infused title has vanished from the Steam store with no explanation. The demo for the game up and disappeared weeks back too.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC today in the UK but gamers hoping to get their copy through Steam are out of luck. The Steam store page simply returns an error that "this item is currently unavailable in your region."

Are UK retailers kicking up a fuss with THQ over Steamworks? Let's hope for the sake of British PC gamers that Space Marine gets back on Steam officially soon.

Its because of the deal THQ made with GAME, which basically is "YOU CAN'T RELEASE THIS GAME ON STEAM UNTIL 1 MONTH HAS PASSED BECAUSE RETAILERS ARE PISSED".

Bethsoft does this too, which means Skyrim, RAGE is affected.

For another THQ game that is affected by this, its Saints Row 3.

I am at Act 6 of Act 16.

Really enjoying using melee weapons such as chainsword and power axe.

Is there slow mo in MP if one uses melee weapons?

Should try the thunder hammer, it's a melee win.

None that I remember, MP is all fast paced. So all the close range killings happen at normal speed.

I haven't owned Space Marine yet, but from the Space Marine forums I can see the absence of dedicated server is doing to the MP mode. Lag, long match searching.

So perhaps if we join the petition for dedicated server, relic *might* grant us that wish, or they might add that in other Warhammer 40k games in the future.

But then again, hope is the first step on the road to disappointment...

Yes, its repetitive in SP, especially when you know that M2 M2 M2 F stuns Ork Nobs.
It gets less repetitive on Hard though since storming through Ork hordes equals to death, making you switch to gunplay and melee bashing.

Chain Sword and Power Axe is the same as demo. Combat Knife is only for quick swipes (no combo at all, and you only use it like on one mission).
Thunder Hammer is slow, but high damage, and the combo is only 3 times instead of 4. Also using Thunder Hammer you don't have to spam M1 when executing Ork Nobs or Chaos Marines.

Nothing like gears.....its alittle similar looking to Darksider (same engine)

So if your a fan of warhammer (which I don't know how you would compare, since its not even an RTS) and Gears....you probably be disapointed.

By itself however is awesome.

Nothing in comparison to God of War... however besides the brutality of 'executions' other than that, I think closes similarity is the DOW2 RTS content, cause some of the executions were elaborated from the RTS version.

Nah. Gears of War ain't no hack and slash lol.
I watched the videos, now really deciding to buy between two games.
Deus Ex or this. The executions are really just....a liability in my opinion, Titus gets so vulnerable when doing the executions lol.
So would you recommend this game?

I would buy it simply because it's fun and I like Warhammer 40K.

We don't get a lot of decent non-RTS Warhammer 40K games after the last Warhammer 40K FPS failed horribly.

I approve on that yo. But then...looking from the videos....I wish we would be able to customize Titus inside and out. Of course there's the MP, but then again...some guys like me who doesn't play MP is a bit turned off. Then again, I'm going to get this one for sure. smile.gif

The game doesn't use DX 11 engine....if you can play Darksiders for PC, its definitely no problem....I run on a HD 6850 card so I can't say anything about older cards.... From the looks of things, I think anything above or within Nvidia GT series can play this game.

You can read and watch a video on the demo I did awhile ago, http://www.malaysiangamer.com/2011/08/warh...arine-demo.html.

After that you can decide. MP isn't bad cause the fun of customization and showing up never gets old. Soon the DLC with the online coop will appear so it's kinda worth the money. The game however gets boring after you finish doing everything for it (all acheivements, perks and armours unlock) but that would take up atleast a few months to do without cheating XD

The gameplay gets repetitive after a while, it all comes down to attack>stun>execute. Melee weapons feel the same no matter which one you use, as they just differ in attack speed and power. Stupid AI doesn't provide much help either, squad mates tend to follow you from a distance and sometimes just stand there doing nothing, while enemies come after you instead.

The voice actings feel dead and why do Orks speak in fluent British accent?
Also, there's the repetitive and annoying "space marine, kill the space marine!" shouts from Orks. Titus also dies extremely fast when surrounded, you can't even get to activate fury.

Without co-op, I think this game is mediocre, maybe DOW fans will enjoy it more.

I liked the SP, yar it's quite repetitive after a bit but that's kinda hack and slash thing.

I did find they gave me new toys to play with at regular interval to keep it fun. And they did a pretty good job at giving a 3D rendering of a Forge World under war, just wished they made it a bit more alive (more NPCs, guards, civilians, random banter).

I managed to grab 41 of the skulls on my first play and they do fluff the story a bit by giving additional comments on civilians, medic and other major NPCs like Mira and Drogan.

For SP skins, there are lots available as mods already.

MP is ok, enjoyable, just wished for more mode and less lag but still fun

I liked the SP, the end battle was a bit meh but rest is ok even though some of the plot points are a bit dodgy.

The MP is ok really, not extraordinary but good shooting. Just wish we could have better control on which server/host you connect to so I could get great ping always.

Works fine for me, weird stuff.

You sure you got the update for it? I think released around that time, make sure you didnt disable auto-update or try to Game cache (right click on game in library -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Game cach integrity)

after playing the game, i can say that the gameplay is fun although it can get boring after a while. the storyline is quite poor considering the amount of material available.

i was expecting something epic like gaunt's ghosts or the horus heresy hehehe

Exterminatus DLC for Space Marine Dated

user posted image

QUOTE
THQ has revealed that the Exterminatus DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be released for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 25th October.

The free DLC adds a four-player online co-op mode, which sees Space Marines battle against the Forces of Choas and Orks. You can choose to play as a Devastator, Assault or Tactical Marine class. Perks unlocked in the competitive multiplayer can be used to gain an advantage over your enemies in co-op.

Two scenarios will be available with the Exterminatus DLC; Escape from Kalkys Facility and Assault on Hab Center Andreas. You'll be pleased to know that co-op play will improve your multiplayer ranking too.

Future DLC is planned for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, but the firm isn't sure if it'll be free or paid for content.

"We're working on some other DLC." producer Andy Lang told Eurogamer. "There will be a free component to them as well as some paid components".

Are you looking forward to the co-op mode for Space Marine?

Relic reflects on Warhammer 40K: Space Marine reception
user posted image
QUOTE
"Was it our best work?" Warhammer 40K: Space Marine producer Andy Lang asked Eurogamer. "It was our best console work."

Relic, best known for PC real-time strategy games like Company of Heroes and Dawn of War, took a risk by attacking the third-person shooter genre so late in the console cycle. We enjoyed Space Marine, noting it showed Relic's "expertise can extend far past the RTS genre they've already conquered," but critical reception has been varied.

"I'm pretty humble; I don't look at [criticism] and get all upset. I thought most of the reviews were fairly on the mark with what they had to say," Lang admitted. "The character design does get a bit repetitive and certain parts of it, just how the game plays - we didn't have time to really polish that stuff to where we wanted to get to. There wasn't anything that was oh-my-god shocking in the game."

Head on over to Eurogamer for more Space Marine postmortem.

THQ's Bilson 'not sure there's room' for Space Marine sequel alongside MMO

user posted image

QUOTE
Joystiq got a chance to chat with THQ's Executive Vice President of Core Games, Danny Bilson, at a Saints Row: The Third event earlier this week. He spoke to us about Space Marine's chances for a sequel, and what he plans for THQ this holiday and beyond.

Bilson says Warhammer 40K: Space Marine is "doing okay," and that "40K fans in particular" were pleased. "It's a really good game, it's doing pretty well. In this world, honestly, you have to do exceptionally well to make any money, because the games are so expensive." Bilson hopes the game keeps selling, and expects the impending release of co-op DLC and "more DLC after that" to help maintain its momentum.

He balks at promising a sequel, however, saying that the Space Marine gameplay may bump up against THQ's planned Warhammer 40K MMO, Dark Millennium, in 2013. "We've already announced the Imperium in the MMO as a class you can play," he says, "and if you combine that it's very active, as opposed to the more turn-based stuff. I'm not sure there's room for Space Marine." But there is more coming for you, battle brothers: "We are heavily invested in the 40K universe, so there's more stuff coming in the 40K universe, absolutely. We extended the deal for quite a while."

LOL, I admit I have the same feeling when I see people scream "Nazi!!!1!!111" whenever they see the swastika(卐) symbol without doing the slightest research and reading about the origin of the symbol and what it actually means.

Back to topic, I usually just facepalm whenever I read comments about "Warhammer 40k is a Gears of War/ Modern Warfare rip off", " Castlevania is a God of War rip off", "Dawn of War is a Starcraft rip off" and such because I know it is pointless to argue about such things.

Co-BIFF: Space Marine Adds Free Co-Op Mode

user posted image

QUOTE
THQ have just announced (instead of sending me the email they promised) that Space Marine has received an update adding a co-op mode. Called Exterminatus, because there wasn’t a sillier word, if you load Steam you should find it updates automagically with the new option. (And you can laugh at 360 players, who don’t get this yet.)

Exterminatus follows the recent trend for co-op modes, of rather than letting two people play through the game’s campaign, instead it’s a score-based endless attack from waves of enemies, with up to four players working together. I’m told you can play as the Tactical Marine, Devastator, or Assault Marine, along with all their weapons and perks.

There are two “scenarios”, Assault On Hab Center Andreas, and Escape From Kalkys Facility, both of which will have a global leaderboard for competitive willy-waving. For the maximum wave, you can also add score modifiers, and complete “dynamic challenges”, which will increase the game’s difficult. And any experience you gain throughout all this counts toward your regular multiplayer ranking, because that’s just the way it is.

Did I mention this was free? It’s free. That’s good.

The one they refrained from releasing until now, have to say its not bad.....7 or 6 maps (i lost count)

Basicly 20 waves of killing Orcs, however in bonus round you get Daemons and CSM

Through fighting waves and waves of orkz, you progress through various arena maps from the SP, quite fun tbh

THQ's sales 'exceeded expectations' in Q2, Space Marine sold 1.2 million

user posted image

QUOTE
THQ has announced financial figures for the second quarter (July through September) of its 2012 fiscal year. Despite having a release schedule that any company would consider light, it managed to bring in net sales of $146 million. That's a pretty significant increase over the $77.1 million it brought in during the same period last year. Of course, its losses nearly doubled year-over-year as well. Easy come, easy go.

The top performer was Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, which managed to sell 1.2 million units across all platforms during the quarter, a little under half of which were sold in North America. Brian Farrell, THQ's CEO, explained during a conference call that older catalog titles also sold well, specifically mentioning Saints Row 2. We guess people are eager to get back into the swing of (blowing up) things.

Farrell added, "We are encouraged that our second quarter performance exceeded our expectations, particularly in a quarter with a light release schedule." We imagine he'll be pretty darn encouraged next quarter, which sees the release of the ridiculous Saints Row: The Third, and the somehow even more ridiculous WWE '12.

Second Warhammer 40k: Space Marine DLC due December

QUOTE
THQ and Relic Entertainment have announced a second DLC for Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, and it adds to Exterminatus co-op with a new mode called Chaos Unleashed.

It lets fans play as a Chaos Space Marine fighting off Orks and Imperial Guard Forces. Also included are three new multiplayer maps, new boss rounds, and a new enemy unit.

Habs Ablaze, Station Tertius and Aquila Canyon are the new maps with 10 new achievements and trophies added for Xbox 360 and PS3. It's priced at 800 MSP and £7.99.

"Space Marine offers a robust multiplayer experience out of the box but the addition of new maps, modes and challenges should keep the community playing for months to come," said THQ's Jim Huntley. They will also be launching a number of unique player skins for all platforms for Salamanders, Alpha Legion, Legion of the Damned and Blood Angel.

They'll be priced at 240 Microsoft Points / £2.39 each. These and the new premium DLC add-on will be releasing for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this December. Have you been playing Space Marine online, videogamer?

Space Marine Twitter teases Dreadnought

user posted image
QUOTE
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine will receive a "big metal surprise" in January, according to the game's official Twitter feed. Game Informer took note of the tweet and its accompanying picture of a space marine (SPACE MARINE!) serving the eternal will of The Emperor against a Dreadnought.

As fans of the Warhammer 40K universe and Relic's Dawn of War RTS know, the Dreadnought is actually a battle sarcophagus, where the barely living body of an invaluable warrior is entombed to live out existence in the massive armed mech.

Relic gave no indication of how the Dreadnought will be added to the game, but expect some kind of DLC announcement come January.

Gear has nothing to do with you getting owned in MP.

The armors are for show only, only things that will make a difference in the weapons, perks and skills.

Tip for beginner in MP, copy the loadout of the guy that kills you so that you can have better weapon with perks to make your progress easier.

Dreadnought DLC Coming To Space Marine

user posted image

QUOTE
A second download pack is coming to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine next week.

The pack is called 'The Dreadnought," adds a new multiplayer mode called Dreadnought Assault where teams capture central locations on a map. The winners spawn a player controlled Dreadnought armed with Assault Cannon / Auto Cannon, a Meltagun and a Power Fist / Power Claw.

The Dreadnought DLC also includes three new multiplayer maps Desolation, Dome Mechanicus and Chem Refinery, as well as new achievements and trophies. The content costs 800 Microsoft Points or $9.99.

The Dreadnought content is coming to Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on January 25.

Additionally, all players get a new multiplayer Capture and Control Mode for free.

“Fans of Space Marine have been asking for vehicles for a while so we are delighted to be bringing the iconic Dreadnought and Chaos Dreadnought to consoles for the first time in this DLC content," said Jim Huntley, Vice President of Global Brand Management.

Put it in co-op also.

MP is too laggy for locals. Interesting concept but will the DN spawn be random for the winning capture team or?

Great DLC but this is going to split up the community even further.

Now the community will be split into those that did not purchase any DLC, those that only purchase Chaos Unleashed DLC and those that purchase only The Dreadnought DLC.

You most probably won't make it pass the second stage if you start from first stage.

Is the multiplayer of this game any good? Tempted to buy it since is 66% off.. but i heard it's p2p based multiplayer.. and that basically nobody in SEA plays it, worth the money?

this game SP is fun at the begining, but gets boring quickly.
MP however, can be very fun if no lag..

The MP is long dead due to the amount of different DLCs that breaks up the community.

I'm not even sure if the MP still exist today after THQ and Gamespy's death because I recall this game is using Gamespy service as well.

The SP is fun but the most awesome part of the game is the MP.

Nothing like gunning down a group of ppl as the Devastator with heavy bolter, roll out of the jetpack stomp shockwave range as a scout and gun down the guy with a bolter or smashing 3 people with the power hammer after jetpack stomping them.

No any other game has MP that fun, visceral, intense and satisfying.

That means the game is using P2P for MP.

Which means anyone with the game can create a game and you can play with those from MY with little lag.

Should be fun if enough ppl join.
