This video is really early in the development, they have time to change basically everything.

I do hope they make it gory, slaughter like.

I used to play Fire Warrior, the game itself sucked but I loved the transcription of the WH40K universe in a FPS. Hope they can make something of very good quality, the universe deserves some good gory gritty pwnage imo tongue.gif

Space Marine Preview by RPS

Zomg as the guy says they really go the "Fiction Space Marines" way, they will be badass on the level of Kratos or something.

"Courage and Honor!"

This game will have no "cover system", which means the marine uses an ancient Japanese combat tactic which is called the "Banzai!!!" tactic.

Seriously, how would that even work, I dont know what are these developers thinking.
Just because ppl will compare them to Gears of War (which brings the pun Gears of Warhammer)
they didnt wanna include cover system.
*
As the Relic guys said "Cover is for pussies' tongue.gif

In a way I can also understand what the guy said with cover system breaking action and reducing fights to "whack a mole" kind of stuff.

Stay in cover, shoot one guy, back to cover, wait for health to regenerate, shoot another guy, maybe do 3 steps to another cover, rinse and repeat.
I don't blame them for trying to do something different (like how they quite changed their stuff between DoW1 and DoW2), let's see the result first smile.gif

And if they go the full "Space Marines like in fiction way", they really really do not need cover tongue.gif
I have read lots of novels in WH40K and in most of them Space Marines are way more hardcore than what they can put into the tabletop or video games for balance purpose.

I think they want to give a "full action" game, go in, shoot some bolts, go into melee and hack stuff, a bit of old school hack and slash stuff.

Yar, autocannon arent codex weapon for Terminator armors, assault cannon are (heavy flamers too which could be fun in the game!)

And agreed, must have at least one mission in a terminator amor, bonus points if it's in a space ship and you can go through walls and stuff...

I am not usually a huge fan of this type of game but this one simply attract me because of the WH40K universe, could have been fun to play as Ork or Chaos SM too, Ultrasmurfs are ok but a bit bland.

And it would be super duper nice to have titans shown in the game, definitely cannot control one of course but to have them fight in the same battleground as you would be awesome if they render their power well (imagine the noises and effect...)

Actually I don't think I remember a game where you had such big machines shown fighting around you in a FPS/TPS world (except space shit games of course), only ones I remember is stuff like AT&T and co in Star Wars, but these are tiny and almost weaponless compare to all but scout titans

Yar, would be surprised if they don't take advantage of using Titans in battles, would be a real waste.

Space battles too (Space Marines armors are void-capable after all and a Space Hulk boarding battle would be lots of fun)

I can't see the video but the biggest titans are up to 150m tall, medium ones are betwenn 40 to 60 and the "scout titans" are about 20-25 meters

Hopefully relic don't let us down, but with their record on WH40K and GW looking over their shoulders, I am semi confident we would get something fitting for Wh40K lore

Lore means SM are pretty badass but it really depends of the writer and story

Like if the novel/fluff is about SM then they chuck norris in power amors.

If the novel/fluff is about IG they are usually never seen or IG leader can battle easily with Chaos SM or gain respect from Imperial marines (like in Gaunt novels)

If the novel/fluff is about SM enemies then they have butter armor and pansies guns (Storm of Iron etc, some short stories.)

If you go the "fair" way SM are indeed pretty badass and superhuman but far from invincible, especially the "basic" tactical marine. Lots of creature/badass/weapon in WH40k universe that can crunch a SM in pulp.

For a random example a "basic" Chaos Marine from one of the original Legions is supposed to be:
A SM
PLUS 10,000 years experience (compared to the 100-300 years in average of a imperial SM)
PLUS Chaos Powers (mutation, spells, special demon-weapons etc.)
MINUS Faith to the Emperor (And They Shall Know No Fear)
MINUS Some of the new tech Imperial SM have (plasma weapons, stormbotler, razorbacks etc.)
PLUS Some of the old tech the Imperial SM can't have anymore since they lost it in the past 10K years (some genetic advancement or armor gadgets)

I would say it's more than an equal match... or in a game like Space Marine a Chaos SM will most probably become fodder... and a single marine will easily beat 10 of them at the same time

Though personally I will greatly enjoy the game for sure, Coop or not but it's hard to say how powerful SM "should" be smile.gif

Will the storyline like SErious Sam just kill kill and kill?? its will be boring 8hour non stop kill the sam orc orc and orc. change weapon and start kill again n again. hope will make a little fun other than killing. $$

"While the enemies of the Emperor still draw breath, there can be no peace."

More seriously I think they can make it more interesting with different enemies, the map level and extra stuff like Jetpacks and co. New weapon unlocks also can keep it interesting.

I remember seeing some sequence in thunderawks and Orks "planes" for example.

And please make it a story at least half interesting, Wh40k has such potential...

Seems like Relic did give a hint that we will be playing with Titans too.  drool.gif

I remember something about titans too but the "playing with Titans" was more in the there will be titans also in the battle field and you fight around them.

Not like you will be actually controlling the titans (think that's what you mean right?)

But that would be damn awesome already if they do a Warlord or "gasp" an Emperor-class Titan in game, the "small" titans are nice already but lack in the "WOAW" factor really ^^

If they do that it could be the biggest land based machine I would have seen in a video game actually.

I remembered that there was only one Warhammer 40k game that we can play as Titans. Some turn-based game.

Final Liberation yar but I meant to see them in a first person thing, to really see their size and power.

The Titan has an AI personality yar, usually one of an aggressive animal like a grizzly or some animal like that. It's not a full personality but more like an "imprint". Like the titan might be more "keen" to attack than retreat, likes to finish off an ennemy and co, making it easier to control in this kind of situation than in some other that the titan does not "like".

And Princeps have to harmonize with this personality which get tougher as the titan gets older and bigger thus only very experienced princeps can command the biggest titans. But they can unplug themselves and go around, they are not like permanently linked

Any non trained person who get plugged to the titan would get overwhelmed by the titan's personality and have their mind pretty much destroyed

Fighting around one of the big titan in a first person (or third person, I mean when looking through a human point of view) would indeed be totally awesome smile.gif

In the another interview by gamespot....at thier booth

it was asked if the player could actually play or drive a TiTan class mech....according to the creative direct "Ralf" he said that they will some how let the player have some form of control over that.

I've a feeling we might see enemy daemons the size of a tower or even Ork mechs which rival the Titan class mechs.

However from the concept arts, they have only drawn those citidel class titans. So I wonder if you actually get to be inside a titan while fighting tons of chaos forces XP...
Could be that our Captain will be able to give some orders or direction to a Titan that is fighting along side.

Something like "Start covering fire" or thing like that.

Didnt think about fighting INSIDE a titan, that's a good idea but it may not be that "special" for most of it, metal corridors, metal doors etc.

Titans do indeed get assaulted by ennemy infantry and usually have a complement of IG or Mechanicus troops (Skitarris) inside their legs to fight against that.
Or they also serve as transport for whole companies of IG/Space Marines and drop them later on right in the middle of the battle.

It's a Steamwork game I think no?
Like how Retribution is, Steam achievements, leaderboard, matchmaking etc.

So obivously it's gonna need Steam...

Hands on the MP part of Space Marine on RPS:

RPS

Sounds actually fun, now I am really tempted to pre-order...

It's a steamwork game right? I want to get it on GG (to get bluecoins) if I can activate it later on Steam.
Plus it's 5usd cheaper right now and they also give the free copy of Darksiders (I can't be bothered with the Blood Angels skin, I have my own colours from tabletop)

From GG and intend to register it to Steam once it's released.
This way I can download it from both parties, I get it 5usd cheaper and I get blue coins from it (plus it made me go Red colour on GG, more discounts in the future).

And the free copy of Darksider given by GG is also registrable on Steam by the way.

I can't be bothered about the Blood Angels skin on Steam and this kind of premium is always released as DLC later on

@Cheese: After looking around it looks like a "Cleanse" mode is announced as Coop in which you can "co-op for up to a squad of five marines taking on wave after wave of enemies"

I can't find an official link to this though but it apparently was leaked in an handson article a while back which has then been put offline.

Some people saying there is some info in it in this Youtube Video (some Dev diary) but since I am in GCG I can't watch Youtube video, maybe you guys can check:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGToH9mQTjY (No it's not a rickroll)

I think yes, on Steam it's at 49,95 and on GG it's at 45,95 with "List Price" at 49,95

So that + bluecoins + it's steamwork anyway made it a no brainer to me.

I found this article Clicky-click-clik

There is a sentence that runs "McDermott could tell me that co-op will be in there, but could not tell me any more than that."

So I would say there Coop will be in it somehow but the exact form is yet to be officially announced.

One hand I can understand Relic saying they don't want to release all the info in one go to keep people interested until release date.
On the other hand not giving some crucial details like presence of Coop or not is imo a bad move for pre-order numbers

I am not sure what you guys expected by Grimdark in this screenshot?

Marines (and especially Ultrasmurfs) keep their armor and weapons shiny, cleaned and in good order so you couldnt really expect some untidy Ultramarines outside of battles.

The armor of the IG is already less polished.

The Grimdark of Warhammer 40K comes mostly from the background where life in it is cheap and individuals are sacrificed in their millions/billions without much remorse, planets get rased/exterminated/devored on a daily basis etc.

For this game looks like the background is a ForgeWorld taken over by Orks and that Ultrasmurfs need to retake with later involvement by Chaos Marines.
Lots and lots of shouting, cutting up and dismemberment expected with a touch of fighting on top of warplanes and along titans... sounds pretty true to Wh40k universe to me

On a site note I cant really identify the weapon that Smurf on the left is holding?! Doesnt look like a Plasma gun (there is no drum on them and they usually have that blue energy bar on the side) or bolter to me (the one behind holds one and it looks nothing like the one in front) or a flamer anything I know are in use by marines

My idea was a grenade launcher too yar (with the drum charger and all) but it doesnt really really make much sense to have Marines use one, their arm can launch a grenade pretty damn far already and with good accuracy but well...

At least as far I know I never saw marines using one in any codex or novels I read.

But well, can also see why they added more weapons to the game, add to variety
