anyone got any ideas? my budget would be about 2.5-3k.. dont mind combos, would much prefer a half stack. its probably going to be second hand, doesnt matter either. wattage dont matter. I want that bone crushing high gain. think mastodon kind of high gain. and is anybody seriously PISSED at how much bentley marks up mesa boogies?!

Er, 2.5-3k very hard to get....... even at Second hand.

check with Ceriatone. They might be able to build you one.

going for more of a jcm 900/dual rectifier kinda feel. hybrids are also okay. just want some suggestions. moving up to 3.5-4k.. does that give me more headroom? I am in contact with Nik at ceriatone.. asking him if he can build one even HIGHER gain than his 800. gave him the schematic for a dual rectifier. waiting on his reply.. in the meantime im looking at other models.

just one question.
do you have the space etc to even make full use of a high gain monster?

its no point having it in a bedroom and playing it on 1.

i did kinda expect questions like this one. if i am considering a half stack, i already obviously know that it doesnt sound good on 1. so please, stop talking if you have nothing to contribute.

ianhooi, you know if you keep insulting the people, you're not going to get any help.

What everdying means, that there ARE some people who are not aware that tube amp needs high volume levels to get the best sound. And when we mean high volumes, we're talking about about 2/5th the volume and if it's a half stack, that means it will probably be heard around your neighborhood............ But I'm sure you already knew that.

ian didn't say he is playing it in his bedroom. Maybe he has his own jamming studio.

I checked with Nik a while ago, he said he doesn't have any plans to build high-gain amps for the time being. Earliest would be sometime next year. And he said that it definitely wouldn't be a 5150 copy because he hates 5150s. But maybe if enough people show interest, he would consider it.

ianhooi, look out for Randall RG50TC or Bugera amps such as the 333XL. Those should be in your price range brand new.

Bugera 6230 or 333xl.
American voiced distortion, similar to that of 5150 and Triple-X.

Prices wise I recall 2k+ for head and 1k+ of cab. Combos are available for slightly less.

Here is a pretty good clip.

Only Randall dealer here is GC. Last time I went, they didn't have it though. Try asking them whether there are any plans to bring that model in. Otherwise, you have to go to Singapore. sad.gif

Bugera is a good way to go too. We're Still trying to organize a Bugera test date. Ie: we all come with our different guitars and pedals and see how good it sounds.

see from UG wan....

" it's always better to have a 50 or 100w amp that aim for metal than a low wattage amp that is not aim for metal. "

something like tat la...
for high gain metal amp, for sure it's gonna be high wattage, no?

Well, if you're gonna splurge dough for a full tubed amplifier, might as well get a power attenuator. THD Hot Plate comes to mind
