Haha, even worse if you have GST dockets. I have to make quarterly GST payments to the ATO and still do my tax by hand, keep all recipts for 5 years (will probably have a mountain load by then) and have my ABN written on everything above 75 bucks. Plus my hours have to be logged nicely on my BAS so the DIAC doesn't revoke my visa. Not to mention, i pay for medicare when i'm not entitled to it due to ATO considering me a resident laugh.gif.

There's also a 108 dollar surcharge if i pay late. Taxes, they'll get it out of you more efficiently than they deliver other services tongue.gif

You know. Malaysian tax is so much easier. Just don't fooking pay.

what is BAS?Business activity statement?

Driving Taxis is considered self employed. So for all means and purposes, i'm technically a business entity.

I wonder if the ABR will allow me to change my legal business name to "He who has huge balls" tongue.gif (so regret not trying when i registered sad.gif)

Hey guys, I was reading through the first few posts and noticed this statement. I know that in order to get an extension for your visa, you would have to go through another health check, but I've never heard of having to pay for a new visa. Can someone verify this for me please? (:
*
yes; you need to do health check n also pay for your visa.those procedure.Your uni intl student should have the guide for you about it.

QUOTE(QuackSilver @ Oct 1 2008, 06:04 PM)
i just extended my visa last month.

and yes it's like applying for a new visa. you pay AUD 450 for a new visa, around AUD 250 for the health check, and make sure your health cover is up to date

and i wasn't put on hold for long. maybe a minute or so of waiting before i was speaking to the immigration department over the phone
*
yeap; which is good.

hey there....im planning to apply to either uwa or uni of adelaide for engineering....right now whats puzzlin me is the living cost?one of my fren told me perth is cheaper n another fren said the opposite.  rclxub.gif im confused..so my ques is  how much will it cost monthly to live in a city like adelaide and perth? im looking for a place that wont be too expensive as i dont want to burden my parents..thanks in advance! icon_question.gif
*
well; perth the thing is..if you can go ard n find work..you alrdy earn up your expenses..adelaide is also almost semiliar but more *inner kind of type economy.

This is ripping off, lucky my dad applied himself.  sweat.gif
*
rip off la mate..if he can charge 9k for triple A services i dont mind; if he said 9k n so much a shiiiittasss service; i would go ask ACCC or complain to tribunal who willing to listen n even sue him for good sake.

aussie dollar free falling. ask ur parents buy shit loads of AUD and keep it in the bank. nvr know when rate might go this low again. according to online websites its about 2.45 now. ( not buying rate yea)

central banks coming in, rebounded back to 2.5 now......good time to buy some, but it may not be bottom yet.....

QUOTE(jakesean @ Oct 7 2008, 03:57 AM)
been dropping like mad.. meaning have to work longer hours to enjoy holidays in msia this summer.. sad.gif ..

2.5 is darn cheap already.. anywhere below this is even better.. save damn hell of a lot on tuition fees..
*
you have to understand; the train of crunching is arriving..n nt obvious the heavily load off of AUD dollar in market now due to unsustainable of nt having liquidity in the reserve.
the good is there for us as we can buy shitloads of AUD now for future transaction.

imagine looking at SGD vs AUD = 1 on 1 prolly in middle week.

2.5 is cheap; but consider the past few 1 yr period; actually those edi burned~ 2.45 is prolly but if things goes shits back home; our country is far more reverse; hyperinflation ~ n job losses is also high.

Moumosea -  I think we are in the same boat, going through the process of applying to universities in australia for engineering. I have also put in my application to uwa and uni of adelaide for chemical engineering - 2009 intake. Like you, I have not decided whether to go to Adelaide or Perth so I put the application in first and decide later if and when I receive an offer from them.

According to the universities' 2009 brochures, it seems that the total cost of studying in Uni of Adelaide is cheaper compared to UWA.
BTW, international students applying for undergraduate programs at Uni of Adelaide are automaticaly considered for those scholarship offered by the University (of couse based on academic results and merit).  No separate application is required but only those received before scholarship closing date of 31st October will be considered. Further, you don't have to pay AUD50 application fee if you apply through IDP.  Otherwise I suggest you submit at the IDP Subang Aussie Open days on 14th & 15th October as application fees are waived on those days.

My parent has put an estimated budget of AUD 420 per week to study at UWA and AUD 315 per week to study at Uni of Adelaide as cost of living (including accomodation). Anyone can tell me if these amount are sufficient???.
Lemonfish - Are you also studying engineering (what engineering).  Mind sharing your experience studying in Uni Adelaide with us.  How's the lecturers, accomodation, availability of part-time jobs, industrial placement, etc, etc.
*
AUD 420 per week for perth is more than sufficient; n AUD 315 for adelaide i assume is also more sufficient.

it depends what you do wit tat 420; its either u use it to cover your games, shopping etc..then its nt enough but for necessities; its more than enough.
