I'm a regular face in Bandung.Going there at least 5 times a year.

Bandung use to be cheap but ever since Singaporean "attacked" Bandung (yeah, since Air Asia land in Bandung) price shot up really fast. This is due to the Singporean will utter loudly "MURAHNYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" mad.gif

Last time you can get Rp50 thousand/RM18 for a nice embroided telekung but now shot up to Rp80 thousand/29. Imagine that!! The hotel I regularly stay, Progo (location is superb, near to most of the factory outlet) used to cost me only Rp190 thousand/RM70 but now Rp230 thousand/RM83.This is within 8 mths!!!

However, still a great place for shopping like batik, telekung, materials to make baju kurung, clothes, shoes. I like to shop at Heritage, Cascade,Secret, Terminal Tas, Rumah Mode (rumours had that most of the Indonesian artists shop in Rumah Mode.hehehehe) and many more. Progo Hotel located to most of these Factory Outlet. One more thing,if you come during sales period (between year end to late Jan), you can get good bargain of branded item like adidas, nike, converse etc.

Another thing, learn their lndo lingo before going there otherwise they will cut your throat.

P/S For the Malays, their favourite shopping place is Pasar Baru. All those nice telekung, batik and material to make baju kurung, wedding dress, local product like pisang bolen, pisang keju can be found here.Cheap ler!!!! (those days more cheaper.haih!!)

I normally book with the owner Pak Henry directly. I'm not sure if this the same Progo Hotel coz the rooms looks very classy whereas the Progo Hotel I normally stay is just a simple but decent hotel.

You can sms to Pak Henry at +628156065556. But do not cancel last minute or they will charge u for last minute cancellation. They don't have that many room and therefore pls do not cxl last minute. I got friends who did not turn up at all and never inform Pak Henry. He was very angry and I also don't know where to put my face. So pls, don't ever do that.

If I'm mistaken the rates for weekdays is Rp230 thousand and Rp310 thousand on weekend. I'm not sure abt weekend rates coz I always go there on weekdays.

QUOTE(gyver @ Jun 22 2010, 06:03 PM)
Planning to go there next month, for holiday and shopping for my wife. Is it better to go by Air Asia or MAS, but I think with MAS we need to take their holiday package which includes the accomodation right.

@Listiani

Is this the hotel you were saying about?

http://www.hotelprogo.com

The room rates are not published on the website, so do you usually reserved beforehand?

Both hotels mentioned below are not near to factory outlet. Grand Serela is near to Jalan Riau & Jalan Martadinata (both streets are famous for factory outlet area). Got some budget hotel also around that area.

On another note, make sure you visit Rumah Mode outlet. That is one of the best factory outlet in Bandung.

QUOTE(AngelLingLing @ Sep 8 2010, 08:37 AM)
any hotel to recommend cheap ones near factory outlet?

staying at Sukajadi Hotel / Galeri Ciumbuleuit Hotel & Apartment / Aston Braga Hotel & Residence Bandung  is it near to those factory outlets? walking distancE?

Can go to Kawah Putih in Ciwidey about 2 hours drive from Bandung town. Ciwidey is the southern part of Bandung. Kawah Putih is the film location for Heart acted by Irwan Shah & Acha Septrasia. If you come at the right time, the view is specatular. My friends thought I was in foreign country when the look at the picture biggrin.gif

QUOTE(stimix @ Nov 28 2010, 08:19 PM)
Well it's up to you. During my recent trip. I also thinking of going to borobudor but later on decided not to and decided to goto Borobudor via Jogja nxt year..

For me Bandung is abit boring except for Tangkuban prahu volcano. That's the only attraction there.

I'm not a branded goods shoppers so those factory outlets are super boring & nothing to me! Nothing cheaper than rp80K for a simple Tee and avg Tee at Rp120k. So it's not cheap at all!

I think Bandung 1 day is enough dy..haha. Jakarta shopping is much better to me.

This pics I took Dec 2009.

The factory outlet in Bandung is not that cheap. Quality wise so and so only. The only consolation for those who like shopping is the pasar baru. Shop for material, telekung and kain batik only.

Bandung are known for their culinary tourism or wisate kuliner in their language. If you go to Jogjakarta or Surabaya the food are mostly sweet not varied like here in Malaysia. If you want great food in Malaysia don't dine in the restaurant. Go to the stalls. Jalan Alor in Bkt Bintang area food are superb though I would say, slightly expensive. My husband and his friends willing to travel to Melaka for ikan bakar. Their ikan bakar in Malacca are delicious and fresh. Also, you should try food in Kampung Baru area. Good food are mostly not in the city centre but spread all over outside the city.

QUOTE(DikkieD @ Dec 12 2010, 01:04 PM)
@senyii Check the list on this page; all car rental/driver companies available: http://blog.malaysia-asia.my/2009/08/bandu...hotel-list.html

It's easy to just do whatever you like. We paid around Rp.400.000 for a driver...though this was just a taxi. It's possible to rent a driver+car for way less money.

We went to the mountainous area; the crater, white lake and of course everything within Bandung city itself. My gf shopped her ass off smile.gif.

A nice way to do the not so common things; is to get a local driver which is easy in Bandung.

@mini12

So funny you would mention food. I have not had that great food in Malaysia ever period. Food in Indonesie generally is always so much tastier. I am not Malaysian, but European so that perhaps explains something? I always read Malaysians writing about how shitty food in other countries is; while I always enjoy the food in the neighboring countries (I like local Malay/Chinese/Indian dishes too of course smile.gif).

You can chk it out at Gramedia Bookshop. There's one near Bandung Indah Plaza Mall (BIP) selling quite a selection for guitars. My nephew bought one. He told me the guitar sell cheaper than in Malaysia. Otherwise you can go to Barang Bekas Shop along Jln Martadinata. They do sell several musical instrument including guitars.

QUOTE(Lucidus @ Mar 4 2011, 07:26 PM)
Any insights as to guitar shops in Bandung?

Going there middle of next month. tongue.gif

BTW, Barang Bekas Shop is actually selling 2nd hand stuff. But the stuffs are good. My husband bought a very nice original BOSS blazer for RM50. Original price can fetch to RM200. I bought drum stick for my nephew for RM10. My nephew did mentioend the brand but I forgot already. The brand that normally drummer always use.

In Bandung, the local call this shop as toko BABE (short form for kedai Barang Bekas)

QUOTE(Lucidus @ Mar 7 2011, 08:56 AM)
Thanks for the insight!

Will surely check it out.

I think so. I can't remember but my nephew (who is a drummer for his band) told me the brand is good. Though it is 2nd hand drumstick but works well. Somewhere in Jln Martadinata. Same row with Danar Hadi Batik. Most of the factory outlet located in that area such as Heritage, Terminal Tas, Cascade. If you walk along the street to Danar Hadi Batik, the shop located opposite Danar Hadi Batik.

I use my Malaysia HP. International roaming just to receive sms but too expensive if people call me. So another option I buy Indonesia SIM card and alternately use Malaysia & Indon HP number.

QUOTE(woundedheart @ Mar 7 2011, 10:55 AM)
was it a ProMark drumstick?? that's awesome if I can get that in a really cheap price!! I wanna go there.. do you still remember where's the exact place?
by the way, how about using your phone there? buy a new indonesia simcard or what?

I prefer Kawah Putih too because if we are lucky, the weather is so nice and cold. The scenary is like you are in oversea. Misty. We sat down eating goreng pisang and drinking tea. biggrin.gif

We need to walk but I don't mind. We were on holiday anyway. Take note, they shoot Heart around Kawah Putih. Have u heard Indo movie name Heart??

Super Sehat spa located in Jln Gempol. I always very cautious when comes to spa. Since I am with family, must make sure not the hanky panky spa brows.gif

Bandung is not cheap as before. The 1st time AA open KL/Bandung route, things were more cheaper. You can get nice embroidery telekung in pasar baru as low as RM18 per set. Most factory outlet sells good quality t-shirt, shoes, bags at the very good price. But now everything is over price and low quality.

I know one hotel that I frequented around Jln Martadinata area. The hotel is close to FO such as Heritage, Terminal Tas, For Men, Cascade and several more. Let me know if you want the owner phone number.
