greatest combination: biggrin.gif

windows sp1 + autopatcherXP + seagate firewall - antivirus = completely save n secure (from internet)

*no guarantee from I/O source such as thumb drive n floppy

experimantally proven......with 6 months of testing period

willing to try...? whistling.gif
*
the word "greatest" cannot be simply used as u never try all other solutions yet
6 months without any viruses is not a great achievement, i think most of us can do it also...it is highly depend on the way you surf the net

seagate HDD has their own firewall + antivirus software?? that's new to me

I was testing AVAST, and i noticed that the speed of downloading in limewire being reduced tremendously to 4-5KBps (compared to 40-50KBps before this)

I uninstalled it and install antivir back, everything back to normal

Anyone can clarify this with me?

Yup....that is the problem
I have the firewall, I have spyware scanners already

All I need is just a simple antivirus
I don't need another all-in-one antivirus that provides all the repeated features in my firewall and spyware detectors

I'm using antivir happily now smile.gif

This thread is unpinned

But still, keep all the antivirus discussions in this thread instead of opening another "Recommend-me-an-antivurs" thread

Seriously, you can live without antivirus given that you always update your PC and have enough common sense in surfing the web (as in do not simply download doubtful files, avoid visiting potentially malicious websites etc....)

But it is better to be safe than sorry, so you might want to install antivirus for security-wise. flex.gif

Just get AVG/Avast/Antivir if you are not ready to pay anything for antivirus.

You should really really use antivirus. Spyware detectors, firewalls and updates alone arent enough. Malicious codes can still make its way into your comp. Sometimes even the files you download may have viruses in them.

If you're not hardcore on security, maybe you should AT LEAST get the free AVG anti virus.
*
Not quite agree with this...
I have antivirus installed on my compter and haven't encountered any virus for ages already

I just installed it for safety purpose and my PC didn't infected with virus for quite a long time already

It really depends on HOW you use the computer, Internet is just as dangerous as your surfing behavior. Antivirus just acts as a guard to prevent your PC from getting infected.

Just my 2cents...

Even if I try to delete the folder away it'll say that the program is running in the background and kenot be deleted. Now that the free trial is up, some stupid window keeps popping up everyday telling me to key in some number shit.

GRRRRRRRRR HELP ME GET RID OF IT PLZZ!

If u want somebody to help u, u must help urself at the first.

First, uninstall Norton and use other AV which is more better than Norton. Trust me, Norton is useless.

I experienced many Norton users encountered this problem. The Norton was not working after got infected. Double click the Norton icon on tha system tray also no response!

Did you read his question?
He said he can't uninstall NAV trial, and now you tell him to uninstall again unsure.gif

Perhaps you should define what does it mean by "not so gud"
You can't expect much from free stuff anyway (I don't mean open source)

i mean like las time my 2nd pc was installed wit avg free edition
n it was attacked by a trojan
so i try 2 delete it wit avg
but it keep installing back
so wat 2 do i format d com
so i was tinkin is it avg professional
hav better functions??
u ever try d professional one??  smile.gif
*
If you were to pay for the AVG professional edition, I would suggest you to buy other brand of antivirus instead

Nod32, NortonAV or Kaspersky have higher ratings and I believe either of them can do you a better job when it comes to killing viruses and trojans (due to higher detection rate).

It's just my 2 cents and I might be wrong.

Great to hear that... Thanks samuraiKidz...

Btw, any conflict with other software. Because the first ver 9.0 (upgraded from ver 8.x) caused problem with MS Outlook and many many tiny but annoying problem.
*
Sorry, I'm not using MS Outlook so I'm not able to provide you input on this

Other than this, I have no conflict problem like you experienced in v9. Can still receive Email with thunderbird without any problem, P2P works like a charm as well. smile.gif

Was hit with a bad virus/trojan recently. Everytime I launch IE, my memory drops to 0 and CPU runs up to 100% Both ZoneAlarm, Ad-aware and my AVG antivirus couldn't kill it. Finally went to antivirus.com and ran an online scan from there - that did it! smile.gif
*
Great job dude thumbup.gif
Online virus scanning is really an option to be considered when you're hopeless

Anyways, mind telling me how did you scan virus online while your IE crashed everytime you open it? Were you using other browser? 'coz i notice most online scanners need IE because of the activeX thingy.

Running two antivirus or two firewalls is not recommended because there might be conflicts between one another.

But I believe it's okay to have more than one spyware cleaners installed in your system.
