Is kapersky and AVS the same protection level? Which one is better between Kapersky and AVS?

if not mistaken, protection for "Web antivirus" and "Proactive defense" are not available in AVS

Yes, I wonder if AVS have a manual defination update file. I know AVG and Avast have it, its easier for people who have broadband at work but not at home, (like me).

Kaspersky updates its files according to certain chronological orders... It will be confusing for the end-user themselves to "install" the definition files. (Just like NOD32) So, I guess, we have to stick with their partial-file update system...

I just got a popup today saying that avg 7.1 free version will be discontinued on 15 jan and it ask me to upgrade to a paid AVG 7.5. Any other free AV which I can use to replace AVG?

Antivir and AVAST.

For ALL info, currently there are only a few Free AVs in circulation,namely:-

1. AVAST
2. AntiVir
3. AVG
4. ClamAV
5. AVS

And others I could have missed... Cheers.

I actually believe the biggest reason for the none availability of offline update files is due to the business model. Less offline circulating, less chances of piracy (not wholly applicable... i know many rigs which are never on the network so no update.). Anyway who would want to manuall install files 2-3 times day just to keep updated cos if you missed the update, then you are exposed already.
Of top of that i was made to understand that the files are actually verified and must be installed in a certain manner into the system to avoid corruption of the checksum( could be bullshit though...). I must admit i never got a clean answer even from the support guys.

LOL. I must agree with the piracy concept there. Corruption of checksum? Obviously they need to "pray" Spybot S&D as "sifu-s". LOL. Checksums can be checked in WinRAR/Winzip ... with CRC. Md5 can be verified too. Correct me if I am wrong. LOL. Cheers!

I just changed to KAV Personal Pro from BitDefender (expired, thought of trying KAV). Problem is, I first tried to install KIS, but it somehow failed during the installation (few times). Then I decided to install KAV 6.0, but the same problem occured. The installation rolled-back. After that, I installed what I'm using now, KAV Personal Pro. No problem during the installation. My question is, which is better? KAV 6.0 or KAV Personal Pro 5.0? any idea what's the cause of the failed installations? Thanks

Btw, is there any software that has an activity bar like what BD has? I like it blush.gif

If I remember correctly, the last version of KAV I used which left ADS tags all over the files is 5.0. IMO, I'd avoid previous versions that leaves ADS tags even after uninstall.

Well, KAV 6.0 is definitely better. I feel that if KAV 6.0 installation was interrupted, you might need to check whether BD was uninstalled properly. Cheers!
