how do you find 5800, Vint? why decided not to get it?

5800 is hot in lyn.. lol why it's out of ur mind? n85 using OLED screen, so far this is still quite new technology. perhaps in future the OLED life time can be prolong

try browse through the 5800 thread..a lot of people complaining the speaker problem...some even have to diy to make it fine..plus i heard that touch screen phone usually will have some hardware prob after 1 year with cost a lot to repair..and im going overseas soon to further my studies so better i pick a phone that will last up to at least 3 years..

and i like to take pics using phone..5800 has bad sensor therefore photo-taking and video-shooting is a downside..

really big dif between the photo taken by my n79 and my bros n82 ...
but yea my phone was slimmer than him ... lol

Can List Down N79 Application That Can Download And Use Full?

there is no perfect phone.
N79 can use most of the fp1 software, currently there are a few in my n79:
1. Step counter - by nokia lab, use to count ur step and jot down ur walking distance.
2. Energy pro ver. 1.1 - by nokia lab, use to determine how much power has been use in ur device. pretty useful as it analyze ur daily battery usage.
3. X-plore - 3rd party file manager. able to access hidden and system file.
4. weather widget - downloaded via widsets.
5. Garmin XT - of coz, my favourite, haha.. GPS software, very strong, recommended software.

there are tonnes of softwares available for this hp, go to search it out. before i forget, handy taskman quite useful as well. it can terminate not responding program easily and view the system info such as ram usage.

Well for starters, my comments after using this for 1 week. Actually i bought this earlier but i just keep it coz wait for the new firmware. But then, new firmware also not coming out, so i use la. Im upgrading from a N70 so u get the idea.

-1st thing i liek is the Switch application. On 1st use I launched it and establish bluetooth from N70 to N79 to transfer settings. It Transfers everything save for 2 folders in my saved messages. i tried the 2nd time but it cant transfer it. So i just leave coz not so important contents

-I think this phone is easier on the eyes and font more legible than my N70. I didnt like the N70 bcoz of its bulk, and thats the reason i targeted N79 for so long. 120+ grams vs a light 97grams. Its slimmer as well. Also prettier, and slimmer.

-I didnt install anything yet other than Garmin XT which is really useful and fascinating for me. My 1st step into the GPS world. I installed it myself free, if u know what i mean. I noticed maxtek's thread is gone, u know the one he sells original Mobile XT for RM50.

-Since N70 i always turned off active standby, which is the all the menus and icons on the standby or front screen. I didnt want my N70 to slow down. But for N79 i turn it on as its quite fast and the shortcuts are really helping. i just hope the next firmware can modify what u want on the front screen as i dont need internet search and share online. Maybe can replace with sumthing else.

-This phone is a swiss army knife im sure u agree. Everything inside a nice, pretty small body.

-im not gonna mince words on the keypad, its surely too stiff and hard. While im bored with my N70 keypad, i prefer something like Nokia 5610 XM's keypad. PPl say this model has the most balanced keypad for feature HP - adequate size, nice tactile feedback, not too soft but not too hard. I hope my N79 with repeated use the keys would ease a bit. Either that or i grow muscles on my fingers. But it does have it benefits though, u can just slip it into ur pocket without keylock or even between messaging. If it needs effort for ur fingers to press a button surely your hips and ur tight jeans wont do it.

-camera is adequate and obviously better than n70. i think some ppl are far too picky about HP cam quality. Im not. I like the shutter cover BTW, less moving part is better IMO.

-so thats my comment on my 1 week phone. Hope our N79 maintains it usefulness for years. This n79 has the charm of N70 when its first out. The ppl using it are ppl who want function and style in a small package. While if u compare it doesnt have the 'buzz' or mass crazy popularity of 5800XM i believe its coz the owners of N79 are more function-orientated and more reserved and simple. Remember technology is our slave, not the other way round.

-I hope out little thread here grows with more input from users. THings that i love to see on the opening post:

- apps. the ones that useable and doesnt have that unsigned problem. im still searching for the torch app that uses the LED lights, cant find the link. Anyone got that? I saw nokia sells one but thats the screen.
- user list
-current firmware
-community recommended themes. Especially where to find beautiful ones like the included 'Haze'

just read the 5800 thread..it seems that the earpiece problem is spreading like wildfire..

concerning n79, yeah.. good short review, features wise this is the swiss army knife of candybar phones.

concerning the big bro, n85 even if oled has shorter life, let say 2 years. i think that is if 2 years of the oled screen turned on all the time. so don't worry, it's not like your phone's screen is always on all the time. got people calculate that it would last 3-4 years just fine. maybe more

so far i just install garmin, google map, opera mini, divx player & windows live messenger...all software just run pretty smoothly~

for this moment, n79 definitely worth for what u pay ~

Many people harp on the number of megapixels or flash capability, but you know whats the more powerful thing? Sharing! Whats the point if you cant share your photos or videos?
Lets say I went to this oversea place and I took some snap shots. Now I want to share with some people my shots right on location. You cant MMS everyone and besides you dont know everyones number that you want to share with. You want to share your pictures at this forum for example. All you need to do is to upload from your phone to Ovi or Flickr via some free Wifi and viola all your pics appears in a Ovi or Flickr album for everyone to see. They can even click on the exif to see the details or the GPS location of your shots taken. Now thats power!

If i havent bought the N79 on the week that ppl found 5800XM to be selling for rm1300 chances are I would have already have a full touchscreen phone in my hands. Im quite a sucker for cheap price and a iPhone/Omnia/Touch competitor with even better features for THAT price would surely sway me.

However, if i havent bought the N79 by the time the 5800XM ppl found out a myriad of problems with it, and the fact that Garmin and FM transmitter are missing then I would get the N79!

N79 for me is like a 5 star phone with 3 star price. the price tag is affordable and it has so many high end features such as gps, fm transmitter and wifi. frankly, if anyone is looking for stylish and powerful smart phone with affordable price, n79 should be on top of ur to-buy-list.

of coz everything comes with pros and cons. the major drawback of the phone is the firmware has too many bugs. the latest firmware which is 11.049 still not available to download yet. therefore, we still need to bear with this buggy phone. IMHO, after firmware update, this phone can be as powerful as other n series phone such as n78, n82, n85 and etc.
