hv any ppl buy studio XPS ald ??

It's very expensive if want to get the 1X 4gb ram 1066Mhz

I probably will go to Dell Stuio XPs.
Just want to know who buy the notebook ald ??
*
The reason why the RAM is expensive: DDR3
If you haven't noticed, not many notebooks in the market install DDR3 in their system even though they're using a chipset (i.e. Intel PM45) that can support it. A case in point will be the MSI GX620, the RAM in this notebook is DDR2 SDRAM, but since it has an Intel PM45 chipset, it can support DDR3; MSI decided not to install DDR3 to cut cost.
I'm having a hard time choosing between MSI GX620 and Dell Studio XPS 16; one's for gaming, the other for multimedia stuff. hmm.gif

Yeah, Dell just added that option; it wasn't there a few days ago.
ATI 3670 is available for Studio XPS 16 only. NVIDIA 9500M is the Hybrid SLi option, most probably they combine this graphics chipset with a discreet one, not an Intel GMA due to the NVIDIA®  GeForce®  MCP79MX chipset; I might be wrong though.
*
After some searching, I found out that 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 9500M-GE with Hybrid SLI® Technology = NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS + NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G
Thanks to n20nine for the link.

Anyone own this beauty yet?

I've been drooling all over it for quite a while now, especially with the 16" RGB LED screen which would make it all the better for HD viewing.

One thing that's holding me back is the glossy LCD that according to quite a number of people, is extremely glaring and almost impossible to use outdoors. Granted the XPS Studio 16 is not meant to be dragged around as it is not so portable, I'm used to carrying heavy laptops around (have an inspiron 9300 at the moment that I bring around all the time) and I use my laptop a lot outdoors.

So just wondering if the glare is really bad. I've been to the midvalley dell store but they haven't got one around to demo.

Also, anyone had any luck getting a 9 cell battery for the xps studio 16?
*
Glossy LCD didn't prove to be a major setback for me; that's because I use my notebook at indoors most of the time, but sometimes while traveling in a car the screen reflects a lot of light from the sky and render the text on the screen difficult to read. You need notebook screens with very high brightness capabilities to combat the reflection from the sunlight, even then the battery might not last for productive work.

Yes, Studio XPS weights around 2.9 kilograms with base configuration; my Inspiron 6400 weights 3.3 kilograms with 9-cell battery and I carry that notebook to my highschool plus the AC adaptor, at times I find the weight of my old notebook bothers me a lot.

Currently there's no Dell Stores in the Klang Valley have the demo unit, a check with a guy working at a Dell Store in LowYat confirms this, they'll have the demo unit by February.

There's no 9-cell option currently available for the Studio XPS 16.

Yeah, not the 8GB DDR3 though, the price is KILLER... laugh.gif
*
DDR3 technology is still new to notebooks, the price quoted by Dell is quite reasonable to me; additional 2GB (from default option of 2GB, 2GB [Default option] + 2GB [Additional] = 4GB total RAM) cost an additional RM252, a shop at LowYat sells the same 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM at RM250 (might be a different RAM manufacturer).

I got this bit here when trying to configure xps studio 13 (setting windows vista home 64bit):
FFS, why include that option when it's unusable with the OS?
hmm anyone knows whether 32 or 64 bit OS makes alot of different in terms of performance?
*
Yeah, it happened at Dell Australia's website too when I try to configure a Dell Studio XPS 16; funny thing is, the default (and the one and only) option for the OS is 64-bit Vista Ultimate and it automatically conflicts (even before I can manage to customize it) with the Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software, apparently it only supports up to 32-bit OS environment.
That was a few days ago, today I went back to Dell Australia and the option under Audio Solutions is "none".

Sounds like most of us want to upgrade from our aging Inspiron to Studio XPS line. My 2 year old Inspiron 6400's hard disk is getting slower with each passing month.

Look here

It now says it excludes studio xps!!!  mad.gif  Should have bought it last week before they put that in!
*
That not fair! sad.gif But we can't stop them from taking away the promotion from Dell Studio XPS. On a side note, who ordered one before this Tuesday/Wednesday? Last I checked on Tuesday or Wednesday (can't remember which day) the promotion is still applicable to the Studio XPS.

I think they suddenly realized they're giving away too much discount to a new notebook; new products don't get a lot of discount, that's their logic I think. RM500 rebate + RM100 rebate saves you up to RM600 worth of cash, that's one heck of a great deal, but now it's gone. doh.gif

yup it's the studio xps 16. it's abit warm on idle and get quite hot when gaming or so, anyway it didnt bother much if you use a mouse.

for benchmark it get around 4.8k+ on 3dmark06. the only game i tried is l4d at highest setting it get around 40-60fps and around 20 if turn on 8x AA.

the build quality is a big leap from dell inspiron to me and worth the price if got the rm500 rebate. lazy to take pictures atm. tongue.gif

A picture paints a thousand words, go on take 1 at least; wouldn't take you that long. biggrin.gif

Hi. I have been waiting for a Dell laptop with 9600 GT. Instead this laptop comes with a ATI HD 3670. May I know which card is the better one? I am also wondering if anyone can compare this laptop with BenQ S42 or HP HDX 16T in terms of performance since I m interested in gaming...

Thx.  rclxms.gif
*
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT is tailored towards the gaming crowd, according to NotebookCheck.net, it's more powerful than the ATI M86XT.
HP HDX 16t is still a multimedia machine; for gaming purposes I suggest you look into gaming notebooks like Toshiba, Asus or MSI's line.

if wait till end of the year sure ll cheaper. End of next year is much cheaper smile.gif The problem is how long u can wait. Haha.. I think the price ll remain RM4k above but with better or newer proc replaced.
*
Can't agree more, the longer you wait, the more the Studio XPS will fall behind in terms of specs; when the demand for Studio XPS decreases, so does the price. So ask yourself how long you can wait?

Yes, just arrived this afternoon; how do I like it? The RGB LED screen is freaking awesome!! The 'pinch' technique on the mousepad works too, but not quite like MacBook's standards.
Yes I got the rebate, I pretended that I haven't purchase one after the rebate dissapears.

Congrats on your purchase, I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I do!
Credit card, takes 24 hours to confirm; mine arrived in 1 week, yours could be less because I ordered it before CNY and notebook came after CNY.

Is it a back pack or a sling bag? What sizes do u look for? 17 inch lappy size? And how much did u get it for?
*
It's the Voyager Backpack, model number is TSB106AP. This is the 15.4" version, it has a detachable padded laptop pouch which I find handy for transportation and peace of mind.
Too bad the bags are all sold off when I got there on the 28th of January, so I have no choice but to take the display unit; cost me around RM290 @ All IT Hypermarket.
Don't worry whether it fits or not, I tested it on the spot with my new notebook and it fits snugly. You can opt for the 17" version too; it's a little too bulky for my taste.

Check it out: http://www.targus.com/my/product_details.asp?sku=TSB106AP
