Anyone own this beauty yet?
I've been drooling all over it for quite a while now, especially with the 16" RGB LED screen which would make it all the better for HD viewing.
One thing that's holding me back is the glossy LCD that according to quite a number of people, is extremely glaring and almost impossible to use outdoors. Granted the XPS Studio 16 is not meant to be dragged around as it is not so portable, I'm used to carrying heavy laptops around (have an inspiron 9300 at the moment that I bring around all the time) and I use my laptop a lot outdoors.
So just wondering if the glare is really bad. I've been to the midvalley dell store but they haven't got one around to demo.
Also, anyone had any luck getting a 9 cell battery for the xps studio 16?
Glossy LCD didn't prove to be a major setback for me; that's because I use my notebook at indoors most of the time, but sometimes while traveling in a car the screen reflects a lot of light from the sky and render the text on the screen difficult to read. You need notebook screens with very high brightness capabilities to combat the reflection from the sunlight, even then the battery might not last for productive work.
Yes, Studio XPS weights around 2.9 kilograms with base configuration; my Inspiron 6400 weights 3.3 kilograms with 9-cell battery and I carry that notebook to my highschool plus the AC adaptor, at times I find the weight of my old notebook bothers me a lot.
Currently there's no Dell Stores in the Klang Valley have the demo unit, a check with a guy working at a Dell Store in LowYat confirms this, they'll have the demo unit by February.
There's no 9-cell option currently available for the Studio XPS 16.
