hey guys, Q9300 reporting in with Asus P5Q3

i am really worried and not comfortable with the temperature

see, without any load, it is already at 50'C

and i tried increase FSB to 400MHz and run Prime95, see the temperature

i am using CM Hyper TX2 and had tried to re-install the hsf a few times. but thats the temp i get.
this is abnormal right?

guys, do you think it's possible to overclock a Q9650 to 4 GHz with a low-end PSU like CM Extreme Power Plus 500W?

Will adding a GC actually cause the voltages to be unstable?Or in other words, do I need to tweak the voltages everytime I add/remove hardware?

I will try adjusting the NB voltage as you suggested.

Want to ask, is it safe to run my Q9550 at 3ghz with FSB 353mhz and ram memory at 847mhz while maintain PCIE at 100mhz

or should i detune my ram frequency to 706mhz at 2.00 multiplex?

Erm, unless you're using Nvidia chipset, else I think is not possible to unlink your RAM with FSB. In short, your RAM Clock is strapped to the FSB. You raised your FSB to overclock your CPU, hence RAM clock will be go either higher or lower depends on how you set your multiplier.

Your RAM probably won't screwed at 847Mhz, instead if your RAM can't tolerate the additional 47Mhz, it'll cause your system become unstable. For a simple and effective test, run memtest86 for at least two passes, and see if any errors, else it's good to go

If errors detected, you can either put more juice to your RAM (of course you should know where the safe limit is), or lower the clock to 706Mhz and tighten your timings. Which to do is up to you.

stock vcore for 3ghz which is 1.3v at bios but around 1.25v at windows shown by CPUZ.

on load it drop to 1.2v.

Hmm.. quad on 3.6Ghz should score better than that. I think shall be around 20k perhaps? 15k is just too low I think

bro... vFSB isnt the same as vNB... your mobo doesnt have vNB/vMCH adjustment....

if u google abit... vFSB refers to VTT or FSB termination voltage...

lack of vNB/vMCH adjustment option...that's why your mobo is limited to 400MHz FSB... and no wonder your mobo can't reach high FSB...
the reason why u can reach 400MHz is your mobo officially support 400Mhz FSB...
i have a friend using ga-p31ds3 mobo... P31 chip... it has vMCH adjust... i overclocked it.. reached 480MHz easy...

yup... thats normally ppl easily reach at 450FSB.... the problem is clocking the quad more than 450Mhz FSB is a challenge... despite low multiplier.
higher voltages, adequate cooling n numerous tweaks are needed to reach 500MHz FSB.
I'm not saying it will rock stable at 500MHz FSB... in my case.. not stable... pass few LinX run only...
