1.4 is many folds more expensive than the 1.8. so budget is the main thing when choosing among these 2.

QUOTE(KTCY @ Jan 4 2009, 10:36 PM) What he mean is, sell d40/x/d60, grab AFD-50mm f/1.4 and remaining cash to upgrade to at least D80 so that can AF no what he meant was use the money that can be used to bnuy the 1.4 to upgrade to d80 QUOTE(dinozilla @ Jan 4 2009, 10:37 PM) I'd opt for 2nd choice FIRST since i already have a d40, so why hurry to upgrade to a better body but get stucked with a lousier lens? |

Looking at your setup, i can already see one big flaw. You cant MF in an event. Its all about capturing the moment. you dont have time to slowly focus onto the subject. Stick to your kitlens.
If your budget permits you, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND adding a bit of money to buy the 70-300mm VR. I dont know how good is that lens, but I can tell you how bad is the 55-200mm. You will miss a lot of shots during an event due to the slow and weak focusing. Many have said that the 70-300mm has a much better built. |

QUOTE(razuryza @ Jan 12 2009, 11:50 PM) siaukia, For street shots at night, Usually you can just bump up the ISO to about 800 or less and then widen up the aperture. Shutter speed is not advisable to drop below 1/30. It will be prone to handshake if anyhting below that. If you have really really steady hands you may go to as low as 1/5 but then the subject itself maybe moving |
