When you do that try to remove the filters else you might have ghost flares and stuff like that.

Agree.

Did some portrait shots using 50mm. Looks great on my LCD, but it's a different story when viewed in PC. Just isn't that sharp anymore.

Use the GREEN Dot............. whistling.gif

Notice the green dot at the bottom left of the picture, marked as "1"? This is what you see in your viewfinder. When the subject is in focus, the green dot will light up... even in MF mode. It's called the "Focus Indicator" tongue.gif

That helps you take relatively focused photos.

checking on the green dot is one of the way.
but for me, i find it a bit ermm, well, i spent too much time looking at the green dot and not the composition or the 'moment'

it's useless to me
*
Precisely!! Which was one of the reasons why I upgraded. I spend more time looking at the subject and composing the photo now rather than "green-dot-spotting". Not that it's bad just that green-dot-spotting doesn't suit my style and choice of subjects. tongue.gif

One of my friend decided to let go her D40x, dont know how to use she said. im helping her to let it go.

have alook here.
*
A pity really.

"Don't know how to use" is the poorest excuse there is.... reflects a person's inability, unwillingness or laziness to learn. Even using the D40X in auto mode is already a start. With the many manuals, teaching classes, forumers and even yourself that can possibly provide assistance in the learning process. I do not see any reason why someone would use that as an excuse.

*Sigh*

wtf 1k, like that i collect up to 3k++ i can get 18-200vr already ?
*
Well... if collecting an additional 2k++ is pretty easy for you... why not collect an additional 2k++ and buy the 70-200mm f2.8 or the 24-70mm f2.8? tongue.gif

QUOTE(KittyKat @ Feb 4 2009, 06:28 PM)
This will be a very very very noob question: If i get the D80, 90, and above, can i still use lenses with servo??? I seriously am confused in terms of lenses when it comes to Nikon. Mind this new DSLR venturer yar.

By the way, thats the advice from one of my experience photographer friend as well, regarding lense compatability. I cant see myself with the D90, but existance of the D80 sure gives me hope on options once again.
*
Yes you can use almost every lens if you have the D80, D90.

A lot of people choose the D80 because of the 50mm f1.8 lens. But take note that shooting with a prime isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's best to try out the lens first before taking the plunge. A good alternative would be the 17-50mm f2.8 Tamron. That's a fixed aperture lens and sharp too. Or wait it out for the new 24-70mm f2.8 Sigma... that's rumored to be a good piece of glass. Those 3rd party lenses are pretty cheap.

If budget allows, naturally go for the better body... you can slowly explore the additional functions that come with the better body. But then again, better is subjective. The D60, D40 takes excellent photos.

By the way, guys, about the D-lighting problem i faced, any advice???
*
If you open your files using the Nikon software, I believe there's an option to adjust D-lighting post processing. I doubt there's this feature in CS3... I haven't searched.

As for the slowness in processing the photo... perhaps it's cause your card read/write speed is too slow? I'm not sure.

Oyaji the D40/D60 is most likely going to be updated very soon, both are already quite old particularly the D40. If you can, hold off until PMA sometime in March to hear the announcements.
*
Hold off purchasing... then the prices will increase 10% now, then prolly another 10% by then... lol.... tongue.gif

Is it Scandisk Class6?
*
Extreme III is Class 6

But Extreme III has two versions now - 30MB R/W for the newest one, and 20MB R/W for the old one.

Extreme II is Class 4 - 15MB R/W

Grats on your purchase. Like what Xand and Tranny said... whacha wanna learn?

Ask away... we'll try to answer your qs or point you in the right direction.

In a different light... has anyone attended the Nikon-organized D60 or D40X Workshops before?

What do they usually teach in those classes? Basic stuff like Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO? Or do they teach techniques and intermediate stuff?

I remember clearly one of my frens went to a D60 class and left it after just an hour and she complained that the class was about "how to use the damm D60 and how to make Noddy the cartoon, not how to use a DSLR!!".
I dont know if her comment/complaint was fair or just, since she didnt finish the class. But the rest of us later crash-coursed her on what she actually needed to know; ISO/shutter/aperture and their relations.
*
Hmmm... sounds a little.... beginner stage.

Reason I'm asking is cause there's a D90 workshop coming up... if they gonna spend half the day talking about stuff that is targetted for first time camera users... my moolah is better off spent elsewhere.

I'm looking to learn more on flash photography, framing portraits, directing models and stuff. Problem with group-organized model photoshoots is that it's like a warzone... everyone's just fighting each other to shoot away and grab as many shots as possible... you don't learn anything.

Its a funny thing today my friend's father told me that Nikon D60 is no longer in the market. I was quite shocked to hear that because its release not long ago. Weird. I don't think its true right guys?

D40 has been discontinued. D60 will be around for quite some ways still...

Thanks Zaidi for the comment. biggrin.gif

hello all,

I'm using Nikon D60. Anyone can suggest to me which SD card is suitable for Nikon D60? Is Sandisk SDHC 200x Extreme III 8GB SD suitable for the camera? Anyone know the selling price?

Please advise.

thanks
*
I believe you mean 20x.... if there were a 200x card, I'd be interested too. tongue.gif

All SD cards are suitable for use... even the normal slow ones. Whether or not you think you need a 20x Extreme III is up to you... some people can live with slow read/write, others cannot.

You can scout out Low Yat Plaza there are some good prices there.

Nikon D90 Nikkor AF 50mm f1.8D Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm f2.8G

From your list of lens, I believe you're preparing yourself for a FX format?
*
Uhhh... I'm a person that likes to keep my options open.

Plus the 24-70mm is the perfect walkaround lens for me and my shooting subjects/style.

Thanks for noticing. biggrin.gif

anyone shoot night shot with D40 without using tripod? mind to share their photo here?

D40X... qualifies too right? tongue.gif

For best night shots => Small aperture, slow shutter speed, low ISO. To counter that without a tripod, use a table or a lamp post or whatever you can find to hold the camera steady.
