NOTE:
For others not being infected with any virus and therefore not blocked from accessing our wireless, please consider following advisory to keep your laptop safe from virus infections.
1) Ensure you regularly install your Microsoft Windows Updates, to do so for...
a. Windows XP: “Start Button” à “Internet Explorer” à “Tools” à “Windows Update” à Follow the on screen instructions.
b. Windows Vista/7: “Start Button” à “All Programs” à “Windows Update” à “Check for Updates”
c. Configure your Windows Update to run automatically, for Windows XP (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windowsupdate/learn/windowsxp.mspx) and for Windows Vista/7 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windowsupdate/learn/windowsvista.mspx).
This should close up any vulnerabilities used by hackers and virus writers to infiltrate your computer system.
2) Ensure your anti-virus software is running and is automatically updated (please refer to your anti-virus software documentation for details). If you don’t have an anti-virus software, you may download one from
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ for free. Most anti-virus software are updated daily and aggressively to counter new viruses.
3) Disable any drives or folders you share over the network if at all possible, if not keep it to the minimum needed folders and if at all possible password protect the shared folders. This should prevent the spread of viruses from open networks.
4) Ensure your own passwords are NOT EASILY GUESSABLE, please refrain from using simple passwords (i.e. 12345678, abcd1234, etc.) this should prevent the virus from infiltrating your own defences.
