QUOTE(figure8 @ Nov 7 2008, 02:20 PM) All PS3 model can play DVD. For Blu-ray movies, it will be region locked depending on what region you buy your PS3.All PS3 games are region free. It only matters if you are playing on a SDTV (480p resolution). What this means is that if you buy an NTSC PS3 and play PAL region games using 480p resolution, you won't be able to play it. Your PS3 will complain that the game cannot run on the display settings. If you are playing on a HDTV LCD (720p, 1080i or 1080p) then you should be fine. As far as I know, most of the PS3 specs that you can get nowadays in Malaysia (including official Sony product), don't have support for SD card, memory stick, CF card. But that should be fine because you can still use your USB thumb drive to transfer data. Wi-Fi/Ethernet supported, no PS2 backwards compatibility support. Hard disk drive is upgradable, so don't worry if you get only 80GB hard drive. You can easily buy a 2.5" SATA HDD from any shops at Lowyat plaza or Digital Mall or Sungei Wang or Imbi Plaza or any computer shops and put it into your PS3. QUOTE(Pain_X @ Nov 7 2008, 10:09 PM) go to Playstation website, download the PS3UPDAT.PUP file. Then put it in <USB DRIVE>:\PS3\UPDATE]PS3UPDAT.PUPWhen updating firmware in PS3, plug in the thumbdrive, select Update Manually via External Storage. For some reason, the console way of updating is slow... |

yeah. recommended solution. Only for PS3 updates.
Other than that, I find it no problem downloading PS3 demos/trailers from the Playstation Store... can get full speed. What I suspect is that the firmware update resides on a different server than the Playstation Store. |

I think 10 years later, we'll be playing PlayStation 4, and DS3/SIXAXIS will be an obsolete item by then.
Probably by then, we all will be using holographic control mechanism (like Minority Report or 007:Quantum of Solace) This post has been edited by geekster129: Nov 8 2008, 11:40 PM |

Maybe no more numbering scheme.

QUOTE(danmooncake @ Nov 9 2008, 01:10 AM) I think most likely within 2-3 years of continuous use, the DC3 controller may even lose it sensitivity and break before Yeah... I heard that news(rumour). They said Sony already patented the design. The controller can be detached to act like a Wii controller.the battery loses it charging capability. Just buy a new controller.. it is perhaps even cheaper than replacing the battery by then. I think by end of next year. .Sony may come up with a new controller that is also motion sensitive like the Wii. The catch is, don't put so much high hope on it whether the controller is even practical for use or not. This post has been edited by geekster129: Nov 9 2008, 08:42 AM |

QUOTE(snipersnake @ Nov 9 2008, 05:10 AM) just curious, if I am playing a PSone game, will my buddies see me playing it on my PSN game play list in the xmb? If your PSone disc contains the game title metadata, why not?I think Sony can use those kind of technology like CDDB technology, where it matches your PSone CD-ROM serial number against their database, and display the game title on the XMB. QUOTE(snipersnake @ Nov 9 2008, 09:55 AM) Well, I did played PS1 game on a PS3 once. PS3 did a great job in handling that. But only for less than 1minute. Weird thing though, the XMB is still showing "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots". OK. Seriously, I'm curious too. Does the PS3 really supports PS1 backwards compatibility? I saw a function called "Memory Card Utility" that can let you store PS1/PS2 saved game data, or from migrated memory card data using an external PS3 peripheral.
