SPOT ON! This post I dedicate to the potential owners of iPhones (2G or 3G) who lack the discipline, mental fortitude and effort to look up and learn about its potential, usage and responsibilities of use.

add australian Aifontriji units as well as they unlocked by nature. however the concept is the same as HK (sign a contract first and then worry about terminating later)

australian's iphone 3g isnt unlocked by nature.. have to call up the service provider to get the unlock code..

of course i know that jakesean. as a matter of fact both optus and telstra have different charges to obtain the unlock codes.

but at least there is a chance to unlock them though it is getting relatively harder to do that (i have a friend scouting australia stores now as we speak but the prospects are looking rather dim)

@nokia2003,
I thought the unlocking is done by the Telcos, not the stores smile.gif A$80 for Optus and A$150 for Telstra. Optus I hear is out of stock so most of those who got theirs in the last couple of weeks or so been getting them from Telstra biggrin.gif

Er.... haf U not oredi got ur hands on a set of iPhone 3G?

@neekun,
Lol... now now don't flood the place - I live just a couple of neighbourhoods away tongue.gif

Hi. I'm very new to all these iPhone stuff and I was wondering how do I exactly get the official unlocked iPhone? And how much will it cost? If I'm not mistaken the official unlocked iPhone doesn't have much hassle. Is it true?

Your mistake will be rectified, somewhat, once the software unlock arrives. But then, you'll still need to play the cat-and-mouse game with Apple with regard to firmware updates. The HK and NZ iPhones dont even have to worry about this.

Australian unlock also can, but you have to wait for them to pass you the unlock code lah. I'm not fond of waiting.
