Well.... a quite funny story to tell here.
Today I was being told that one of my colleague purchased an iPhone 3G (never heard from him about it). And, he is totally ZERO-knowledge about iPhone 3G.... he was thinking to get Samsung OMNIA, but after he tested out iPod Touch 1st Gen.... he gave up on OMNIA. his friends also don't know why... actually didn't know at all until he showed his iPhone 3G to his friends. I got to know from my colleague (same dept.), and he told me that the iPhone 3G has a "pelapik" inside the tray... when I heard of that.... In my mind immeidately popped up "Gosh.... why buy it without properly info survey, but not the price survey !". Without any doubts, I told them that is a LOCKED set unfortunately, and it has many problems using hardware unlock method. I immediately send my colleague "About Activating iPhone 3G With A Wireless Carrier" PDF file, to ask him to check that the iPhone 3G is from which country. Sadly, the iPhone 3G owner is totally noob, he has no idea how to check. I pity him so much cos bailed out so much of money, eventually got a locked iPhone 3G. I straight away headed to find the owner... and check out his iPhone 3G (16GB Black), and play around with it (btw, none of them know that i'm using one before acquiring any. Also, I told him many "disadvantages" of having hardware unlocking unit.... After some time of "interviewing" him on his processes of getting iPhone 3G... here's the concluded points : ** iPhone 3G purchased in Penang Pragin Mall shopping complex ** Quite high price at over RM3K+ (16GB) ** Using hardware unlock methodology ** He only tested to call and SMS (really a 0% noob about iPhone 3G) ** He not even dares to take out the hardware SIM from the tray as the seller told him if taken out, then cannot use ** Need to cut out a very small (about 2mm) of square hole on SIM Card just to fit in the hardware unlock tool perfectly ** Seller told him to upgrade firmware or anything, must get back to him ** Until the point I completed interviewing him, he only has less than 1% of iPhone 3G knowledge Out of curiosity of my 1st time able to see hardware unlock tools, I asked iPhone owner's permission to allow me to see the "pelapik". Undoubtedly, I poke out the SIM tray and see it.... really amazed me cos it is only a plastic-alike SIM shape with some "electronics" things on it. ![]() Thereafter, I took another Telco SIM card and inserted, it showed "LOCKED SIM" on iPhone 3G. At this point, I confirmed that is a LOCKED unit. In order to pump him more iPhone 3G knowledge (although it is a locked unit), I open up the "About Activating iPhone 3G With A Wireless Carrier" file to show him indirectly which countries sell "Unlocked out of box" and "Authorized Unlocking" iPhone 3G. After listening, he immediately called back home to ask his mom's to check on the iPhone 3G box for the Part Number. (I also didn't notice the Model number can be obtained from iPhone 3G itself). I checked on the file with the Part/Model Number of iPhone 3G he got, surprisingly it is an "unlocked out of box" Singapore unit. ![]() Here's the interesting part.... the iPhone 3G is "unlocked out of box", yet the seller uses "hardware unlock method" to "unlock" iPhone 3G for him ● Blur blur sell iPhone 3G ● Intended to cheat the buyer to gain more money by telling Hardware Unlock Tools things. With the knowledge I have, I'm guaranteed that his iPhone 3G can be used without any hardware unlock tools. To persuade my colleague on this (he was quite doubtful, as he is a noob still than 1/2 hour, I managed to get his iPhone 3G activated, and uses it WITHOUT any hardware unlock tools. My colleague is really really really LUCKY enough that bought an "unlocked out of box" unit by luck or by accident. This is really an adventurous experiences he may have.... The luck is on his side I concluded that. To those who wanted to grab one of the iPhone 3G out there... hope you guys will READ, GATHER and SURVEY more info before you make any decisions. Good luck lar then.... Hope you learn something from this story This post has been edited by friends: Nov 13 2008, 02:25 AM |

QUOTE(mikehwy @ Nov 16 2008, 09:11 PM) May i ask a question here? Obviously you did not read up [ Here ] , [ Here ] and [ Here ]I am bringing in a Spore set iPhone 16GB. the service provider said that it can be used in Msia for most basic functions like calls and SMS. However, some "technical" functions like U-Tube does not work in Malaysia because it is "locked" to the service provider. My worry > will other functions such as Internet, MMS be working fine in Msia for this Spore set? I hope pals here will reply here, please. It is a decision time. Please help. many thanks. To your Qs... Yes, it can be used for EVERYTHING in M'sia, including YouTube and MMS (via 3rd-party App - SwirlyMMS). Why ? Cos it is an UNLOCKED out of box unit for Singapore iPhone 3G units. 100% working.... Hope that reduces your worries. |
