Who told me ar?...well, 4 of the security Company. I called up and they tell me, there is about 7 weeks - 10 weeks training before they attach me to the real work. If pass only we get the job but still under probation/new training.
Security company? I think you're talking about security guards lah, not police force.

may i know whether the requirement of "relevant residence status" SG jobs posted in jobstreet means that malaysians cannot apply ??
It means people who can already legally work in Singapore ie. the hiring company doesn't need to sponsor or apply for anything for you.

I wonder whats the recommended percentage one should allocate from his wages to go into getting a room or a house in singapore. Since seantang mentioned that if most of ones salary goes into renting a room. How much is most? I would guess its close to 50% of ones monthly salary.
I would put the non-negotiable cut off point to be 20% of salary. Anything more than that, I'd reckon I'm spending beyond my means.

If I rent out a room, I would advertise for females too. They are more accomodating (easier to control) and there's a much higher probability of being able to physically defend myself against if 'anything were to happen'.

If I rent out the entire flat, ie. I don't stay with the tenants - I would be much less concerned.

i just graduated from US, would like to know what r the ways that malaysian fresh grad can apply for jobs in US?
most of the jobs that i m interested in jobstreet said "singaporean or relevant residence status"....=.=""
I assume you're talking about working in Singapore.

There are many ways to apply for jobs in Sg... email, snail mail, online application... blink.gif

But there's one way to be able to work in Sg if you're a foreigner who's not already working there. You have to get an employer to sponsor you for a working permit/employment pass. That's it, nothing else.

Why would you want 2 control somebody?

Isnt mutual agreement more fair?
Of course it's fairer, but it might not be to my advantage.

There's no way the landlord can list down 'all' the rules to a new tenant and agree beforehand. Some things you discover only after the tenant moves in. New rules are simply easier to implement on females vs males, in my experience.

Exactomundo.

Any straight single guy (or MBA) will very much prefer female housemates over swordsmen.

Hmmm... Singapore's aux police (private security) seems to have more stringent entry requirements compared to our Malaysian police force.

My bro has a spare room at his hdb at pasir ris, so gotta bite the bullet and stay there better since its clean and at least i know the ppl whom i'm staying with.
Actually if there is a significant difference in rentals that you are paying now vs what you'll pay your brother, then can consider putting that difference into taxi fares.

I moved from Bishan to AMK to take advantage of lower rentals, the difference allows me to take a cab to work every morning. Coming home still have to MRT it lah, but no time pressure leaving work.

Rental in AMK quite expensive also right? Single room near AMK station is around $600?
It's about 10-15% cheaper than Bishan for a HDB flat. Condos rentals are quite a lot cheaper. Individual rooms should follow accordingly, I guess.

Condo rooms are cheaper? Thought that condo rooms go for about at least 1k. Master condo room around 2k coz i know my boss has condo room which he renting for that amount. You'll get 36 inch flat screen tv and can use air-con all day.
I meant condo rentals in AMK are cheaper than condos in Bishan - to a larger extent than HDBs in AMK are cheaper than Bishan.

2K for a room only in a condo, or 2K for the entire condo? If it's room only, then it's rather expensive. During my early days in Sg, I paid 2.6K a month for a serviced studio apartment on Cairnhill Rd, just off Orchard Rd. If your boss is willing to go that high, I reckon there are better options out there.

How much you earn also you can "burn" in singapore. Even earning USD 200 a day can blow most of it off.
You can 'burn' any amount in any city, isn't it? Not just Singapore. It depends on what you want to spend on. Unless it's something only Singapore sells and you personally simply do not want to buy anything else?

Well there are more choice compared to malaysia for clothing. Whenever i go back to malaysia, especially my hometown. Everything over there is dated stuff. I find it odd that i havent seen a single british india store in singapore yet.
I reckon (over)spending is due to the fact that someone wants to spend. Having temptation nearby might make that spending more convenient, but it doesn't cause it.

To take your clothing example, if someone wants to spend on nice clothing, they will do so even if they live in a fashion backwater like Kuala Pilah or something. They'll probably spend more than a fashionista in Singapore because they pay the extra money to travel to KL/Sg to fulfil their desires. And compared to their Singaporean counterparts (who see nice clothes everyday), these occasional Kuala Pilah might spend even as they'd probably indulge in binge spending on their trips.

Where the hell is kuala pilah?
Actually, I don't rightly know where it is... although I know it exists and it's pretty ulufied. Which is why it's my example of a backwater.

But like chess gal said, when come 2 sing, sure will splurge coz got more choices here. Then later will have to reign in expenses.
Between you & me... I think successful young urbanites like chess gal will splurge no matter where they are. Being in Sg is just a good excuse tongue.gif.

For me, it's the reverse. I'm actually spending a lot less since coming to Sg because I don't have a car here. Back in KL, the car instalments, running costs, petrol/parking/tolls plus the cost of modifications were huge. Here, the few hundred bucks a month on public transport & taxis is tiny, in comparison.

Hi, few pages ago someone mentioned that SG police is recruiting ASEAN citizen, but I couldn't find such info after going through SPF website. All jobs listed only stated Singaporean & PR. Does that info actually refer to SPF or just auxiliary police? Or SPF has a scheme to recruit non-PR and help them obtain PR by the time they completed training?
I think that recruitment was for the auxiliary police (or private security guards) rather than the SPF.

how about recruitment in audit firm singapore bro?
I don't know for sure. I haven't been chatting much with the auditors who come to my office lately. Last I heard, hiring, increments and promotions were not high on the list of priorities.

Chess_gal should be able to help shed some light for you.

Btw, do you think its unreasonable for a person to rent a ulitlity room near the ang mo kio mrt station with air-con for 400?
Which room?

Most of the flats in AMK are more than 30 years old have been upgraded.

The original 'utility' room is now called the storeroom. It's really narrow, not more than the width of the door but long L shaped. If it's that room, I think it's too claustrophobic and degrading however low the rental.

If the flat has been upgraded (2 or 3 bedroom), they would have added a utility room at the rear of the flat, next to the kitchen & common toilet. That room is not as big as a common bedroom (it's probably 15"x15") but big enough for a single bed, a small closet and table - if you don't have much stuff. Anything more than that is probably way too cramped.

The map marker is at least a 15m walk from AMK stn. I stay at the corner of AMK Ave 5 & Ave 6, and it takes me roughly 13m-15m to get to AMK stn. About 8m to YCK stn.

The distance from the map marker is a little farther to AMK stn from where I am.

If you don't want to walk, you might want to take a bus. Lots of buses plying the main avenues in AMK.

tommy79, what will the company be doing for these part timers, medical benefits wise?

Being frontliners, they will be at the very highest risk of exposure to the disease if it's incoming through the checkpoints/ Only caregivers are more at risk. At the very least, are they getting the proper vaccinations, safety equipment (masks, goggles etc) and what kind of medical care or insurance will they be entitled to if they unfortunately contract any diseases?
