Today has particularly been a f***ed up day. Lost my adult Arizonensis pair. Tiga ratus ringgit down the drain. They were planned for breeding mid this year. Basket.

I thought they won't cz i read on this site that They are generally harmless opalish. Notice how loosely the word 'generally' is applied in the sentence? Lol! Mites are generally harmless, unless and until they take over your scorpion and start sucking the life out of it, literally. http://web.singnet.com.sg/~caijw/care/care.htm QUOTE Most common parasites is the mites. These are generally harmless but looks unsightly on the scorpions. So this site has wrong info? Crap. Captain Mite: "Slurp slurp, yum..juicy scorpion. Captain Mite to Base, juicy scorpion in sight, send in the paratroopers! Over!" General Mite: "Base to Captain Mite. Well done!" Captain Mite: "Thank you chief!" General Mite: "Don't thank me, I'm not gay!...shhhh..." line goes silent for three friggin long minutes. General Mite: "Paratroopers, we've got breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next month ready. Move in! TORA TORA TORAAA!!!" Minion Mites: "Weeeeeeeeiiiioouuuu(the sound they make while lunging at the poor scorpion)...slurp slurp" Minion Mites: "EVERY WHERE WE GOO, PEOPLE WANNA KNOWW. Do a little more reading on taxos of the Hottentotta species and you'll find that Hottentotta caboverdensis = Hottentotta hottentotta. They are the same species. Hottentotta hottentotta is the older name for Hottentotta caboverdensis.
The name has been revised some time in 2006. But most literature on the net still cites them as Hottentotta hottentotta. No big impact there for hobbyists like us, but just to avoid complications, i.e. people selling the same species under different taxos at higher prices (this is a common problem when it comes to scorpions, especially of the genus Tityus). Read more: About Caboverdensis. |

The size difference between a 6th instar and an adult is formidably big. Unless they have been kept since early instars together, you may find pedipalps scattered in the enclosure.
Fights occur mainly for food, but can also result from establishing dominance, especially in mature males. You can still try, but will alway need to keep an eye open for signs of agression. Asian forest scorpions are unforgiving foes. |

The most prominent 'upside down' moulting would be among bark scorpions. They anchor themselves to vertical barks and use gravity to their benefit; helping them pull out of the old exoskeleton. The exuviums of of barkscorpions are among the best, you almost never see shredded pieces. Supersexy.

Scorpion venom is not like other animals. You are more likely to get sicker as the number of stings you experience progresses, its not inversely proportionate.

This thread is getting more routine and turning more lifeless than my day job. Let's talk about WALLPAPERS for a change. Let's share the pics we use for wallpapers on our PCs. Credit given where credit is due.
I'll go first for starters. Here is a pic of a colony of adult/subadult Hottentotta hottentotta housed (or piled up rather) in a nice setup. Nice in a leafy way. Errmmm...whoever said this species is non communal should start eating his words right about now...? Lol. ![]() An awesome possum colony of Hottentotta hottentotta. *credits to kraken. This picture has inspired me since early July last year. Will hope to have something like this in the coming months/years. Hottentottas rock my boat. I love his excellent taste in women too. Purrrr... forgive me kraken. Lol! » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

Just don't end up dead with a king cobra attached to your appendage. Lol! Otherwise, they can be a nice place to look for bugs. Some bugs there will even save you the trouble, when they come looking for you i.e. / A. albopictus.
Erm...doesn't anyone here have scorpions as wallpapers on their computers? |
