Best to keep in mind that colour alone doesn't make a species what it is Ryo.

Colour can be a result of either morph or locality variation. It can also come from a slip/mutation of genes that carry information on the build up of pigmentation in your scorpion. Best way is to go for more physical attributes. That part better check with scorpiologists for worthy answers, not hobbyists. Lol!

Kesian ah kang yang baik lagi ceria. He's a nice guy, not at all the kind of person you take him for. Twice a better person than most of us here any given day.

P/s: Nice cap ah kang! Beetles look nice too. Did the tong come in handy? Lol!

A friend of mine says approximately 5 years or less, Bart. I have no credible grounds for this. A scorpion like a hottentotta's lifespan in captivity has not really been the subject of interest in many. In the wild, a scorpion's lifespan is heavily dependent on predation and at times erratic climate behaviour; i.e. flooding or drought.

Happy christmas everyone.

Reporting in to share his find.

This little fry is happy he got his first Mesobuthus martensi last Friday at Teluk Cempedak, despite being in the form of an amber keychain. Four ringgit is money worth spent on a dead scorp. If you happen to drop by Kuantan, don't forget to look for Teluk Cempedak beach and scout over the small shops there.

He will now retreat and let the professors go about their business. Sekian.

Nice scorpion. Keeping them requires a good mix of experience and luck. And you might've been lacking in the luck department. I've had my fair share of losses too. I lost my adult Jacksoni last Friday. God rest her soul (in a photo frame).

Common House Striped Scorpion (Isometrus maculatus). This is a species native to Malaysia and the SEA region. Fragile like porcelain.

why ah?

Take a look at it and go figure. It's fragile because of the nature of its bodybuilt. That scorpion measures less than the width of a 5 sen coin. It was a 2nd instar sling.

so this is one of ur collection huh?

Used to be.

@s98432512 : You could also try using potting soil. It works just as fine provided you keep it clean. Not as visually pleasing as cocopeat, but will do for the meanwhile. A mother scorpion who has gone thru so much deserves a nice setup and I'm sure you're more than keen to get one done. Move the mom only after the scorplings touch ground.

Some ideas can be found here: Linko.

Junshern, that substrate is way too wet for a Hottentotta. Humidity plays an important role to help moulting, but like they say, too much of a good thing is just as bad.

Sorry for your loss.

Are you're using the same level of 'wetness' for your Liocheles?

no..now i keep the liocheles and the other hottentotta in a dryer condition, but humidity remains.
i have learnt the hard way,i want no more.

Just mist the cover of your container with 2-3 drops of water once every 4-5 days and the hottentotta scorpling should do fine. Substrate is better left dry. This will be sufficient enough to sustain your scorpling through the upcoming moult. When moulting, try your very best to leave it alone and let nature take its course. Let God take care of it for you. Four hottentotta slings have moulted on my side. Let's hope for better luck with your little one.

For liocheles, I never bothered giving a wet setup. They are superhardy, never lost any aside from cannibalism. Just give the enclosure a good spraydown once every week. Wet one side of the wall. The one passed to you is almost an adult, two or so moults away from being a mature lady. Take care of her well and you may just be lucky enough to see babies. tongue.gif

Hint: Ventilation is also very important for both species.

evaporate liao, how?i put more water lo..
hehe...

Hi yhuii. Looking back at the pictures you've posted, the problem of water evaporating looks like it comes from the XXL hole on the container cover. Lol! What you might want to consider is smaller pin/nail sized holes. Your substrate is just fine. No need for changing unless you find other problems popping up.

s98432512: the bark loks a bit wet. dont over mist them, they need humidity, but not too humid. just a light shower once every 2-3 days, and also i would suggest that you change to a taller tank and put a vertical piece of bark. they'll love it.
