All that you mentioned except grouper farm. Instead we went to Sponge Reef, lots of coral there lol. Not many dive sites there anyway. Pretty much covered everything I guess. The Kaca wreck visibility was sooooo bad! Hardly 1m only. Pretty much got separated from the other group. But still manage to sit quite a number of stuff cause the DM was awesome, really dunno how he manage to spot some of those small creatures.

Andrew was awesome as well. He provided me good customer service and I'm honestly very satisfied with their service. biggrin.gif

Met 2 divers there that frequent diving in Port Klang Indonesian border or something. It seems there got lots of wreck to check out. Hopefully can join them for their next Port Klang dive. tongue.gif

i bought a powered dive mask..
my specs power is 250-300..
so i bought the dive mask powered at 200-250 based on shop's feedback..
when i went in the water.. my view is still blurry like when i'm on the ground not wearing any specs at all.. why ah?? please help..
*
You cannot expect a 100% correction as ur specs will be designed for angle, etc and if u have astigmatism as well.

Best is just go contacts.. that's what I do and all my specs wearing diving kaki do as well. Go to a optician, get ur contacts properly prescribed and ull get perfect vision underwater.

And for stories about contacts floating out, avoid the cheapo brands. I've only had one occasion a contact did go out, but its due to me purging air in my mask. I've tried swimming with my eyes open before and haven't had the contacts dislodge.

Oh ya.. A lot of ppl actually just go down with beach shorts and rash guard. Sure beats the feeling of a wetsuit. The only time I wore wetsuit was during my open water and in Nusa penida.

Some of my frens went commando before.

I think perhentian DC are still offering between 900-950 for OWC. This is just for course, nothing else. No food, no lodging.

I regretted doing my OWD in Perhentian island. Didn't do my homework on dive centers, was in a rush to get my license and just simply pick a dive master to intro me to a dive center. I didn't learn much. Had some fun, but I had more fun after exploring more opportunities and getting to know more about diving. I did my Rescue with another dive center and I was one of those who had to assist the instructor with the OWDivers during the certification dive trip. And from what I see, they learn so much more than me and had so much more fun as well.

Some instructors just want the money. They won't teach you extra information. They might not share experiences with you.
They might not even go thru the entire theory book with you. Well, this is just base on my experience. smile.gif
I did 2 discovery scuba before I went for my OWD.
Yes, first time discovery scuba was really the wow. But I think it also depends on the dive master/instructor who bring you for discovery. My 2nd time wasn't that interesting. tongue.gif
If you ask me, I'd say definitely go for confine water first. Not the whole 3D2N thing on island.  wink.gif

This is purely my own opinion and i don't want to step on anyone's tails especially island based DCs.

Anyway, i would recommend to start off with pool sessions to "level up" your skill first. Some schools (such as the one i go to) will let you have as many pool sessions as you need until they think you're stable enough to go out to the open ocean. I only did 2 sessions, i know people who did 5.

Once you are ready, just follow the school out for their planned trips. All you need to do is your basic OW skills and BAM, can start diving.

As for my experience, i did my OW in KL then had my exam in Lg Tengah. Was an amazing experience. At night while we are partying, can see the students who are doing their entire course on the island, studying.

This sucks. Any experienced diver will tell you that after 4 dives in a day, the last thing you want to do is study. I also hear that this will result to people losing interest in the hobby cos it becomes an unenjoyable experience.

My 2 pence. I hope you enjoy diving as much as i do. I've only gone on 1 trip and am taking my AOW already biggrin.gif Will be heading to Sipadan in 2 weeks and then to Tioman in early April.
*
Agree on both statements above. I did my OWC in perhentian over a 4 days duration. Damn boring at night need to watch videos and study. Better do all the paperwork on mainland and relax on the island.

Hi,

Have decided to do my OWC with a group called Marine Monkees in Cheras.

Hopefully can get it soon smile.gif

Most important is that you choose an instructor that you feel that you're ngam with. At the end of the day, its a chemistry that matters the most. There's always boring lecturers/teachers and good ones.

Hi,

Is this the front zipped one? WJ-125 2MM LONG SLEEVE JACKET Like this one?

I was looking at it.
My question is,  should i go with it + boardshorts or should i go full?
Thanks
*
Really depends on person actually. For me i hate wetsuit, im always with board shorts and rashguard (even in Sipadan and P Weh).

Some fellas especially those photographers would prefer full wetsuit for protection. This happens when lying down alot on the sand, dont know what can bite you and plus if you're a person that always bumping into stuff, fire corals is very painful. So hence why even those that dont feel cold, they'll get 1mm full wets.

This. Fire Corals hurts like hell. I never had the liberty to "try" yet, but i've seen someone that got stung before, and its not pleasant at all.

PS: Full body also protects you against planktons that sting. One of the dives in Perhentian in this recent trip, we back rolled into waters full of those little nasties. Does not cause you any harm, just irritating.  rclxub.gif

Putra: Clearing up already. On the day i left, i heard they're getting 15m at Sugar.

LOL that's practically what I was told..... thanks for the advice. XD Blame my awesome potty-training

Btw, was thinking of getting a dive torch since rental's a bit too pricey (after multiple rentals), any recommendations? Possible to get a reasonably good one in the RM100 - 150 range? smile.gif Thanks, and sorry for asking so many noob questions.

220 can get a good LED torch already. Saves alot more in terms of battery and its brighter + white light.

Dont go for those normal bulb types, eats battery like sheet.

Just for comparison, I have a SL4 which is modded to use a Cree LED, 320 lumens per the LED spec. Uses 4x C size battery. From new till now have not changed the batteries, which is like already 2 years old with >10 dives and land use.

I have another 220 lumen LED torch which uses 3x AAA batteries. Can last around 3 dives before needs changing.

guess ill just stick to tulamben. thanks!!

If not mistaken its about a 2hrs journey from kuta/sanur to tulamben. Dont go for nusa penida until you're really really experienced with currents. There's even cases of DMs being drowned there.

Anyone bought any scuba gears online before?
Planning to get Oceanic Geo 2.0 for a friend. About RM1000 plus shipping.

Becareful on this... if buy from overseas usually the warranty wont be covered 100% by the local disti (for my example, Suunto). You'll have to deal direct with manufacturer or if you're lucky the local disti will charge you some money to handle your warranty claim. It's not a global warranty say like Apple products.

Thanks for the tip. My power is 600 as well and I cant put on a contact lens. So I pretty much have no choice but to get a prescription mask.

If anyone else is interested with a prescription mask, the diving shop in Mid Valley (Dive Station) will have it done for you for RM400 and ready within 2 weeks, while a shop in Bukit Jalil (xtremedivers) will cost you RM350 and ready within 2 weeks to 1month
*
Seriously, just learn how to wear contact lenses. Very useful even for other activities, say sports, paintball, clubbing, etc.

Your power changes and its another several hundred ringgit to change the lenses on the mask. Plus once out of water there will be that fumble looking for your glasses and also the extra worry of safekeeping your glasses while on the boat.

Guys,

What r your thoughts on cressi regs n bcd?
I hv seen a lot of ppl using scubapro, mares, aqualung but not cressi.

Thanks
*
Shouldnt be a problem for the BCD but as for regs you might have an issue with the servicing. Not many ppl specialize in it and parts might be an issue.

Popular ones:
West Malaysia - Aqualung, Seacsub
Sabah - Scubapro

Each fin got its pros and cons.

Say split fins. You'll find it very light, good acceleration but no power. Heavy current will require more effort to fin through. Also cannot frog kick

Full fins. Feels heavy to fin but one kick damn power.

hahaha i know.. but a lot of things can go wrong. And I am afraid of heights so going down meters upon meters scares me like hell.. I think i consume too much air going down coz i tend to jerk thinking i'm free falling every time..
*
Your buoyancy control is out, thats the reason for the free falling feeling. You could be overweight as well, try reducing the weights that you carry by one and you should see much difference.
