normally i just let it be in for a few weeks before any pruning or repotting.
Just let it get use to the new environment first before anything. just watering them will do until you see some new shoots coming.
Indication of it being healthy.

Infrasonic,

What bonsailelong means is that you need it grow for 5 more years then shaping it since yours is still young.

cedars can be great bonsai, and the difficult one to master...

yes and no, depends on how old or what you wan actually.
You may get the buddhist pine from the nursery maybe already 10 years already. then you may pot it and preshape it within 1month. Or if you get prebonsai material then can straight prune and shape after a few weeks.
but old timer like Bonsailelong knew how old they want their tree to be before potting. As for me( a great beginner), once the tree is healthy, i'll go potting and shaping.

After some hard works.. sweat.gif
some "real thing" appeared  flex.gif

Probably another 2 years I can have some real good Premna materials to start off my Premna Project.

Seems hard to find quality Huang yang bonsai photos on Google. The boxwood search are different kind of tree. Here the Huang yang got nice old wood stems n the one on the net seems like sui mei's stem.

Great Buddhist Pine!! So the bending need to be like a spiral movement? A dragon's movement?

The Kyoto Moss SPore that i applied that day shows some growing...
Attached Image

And the Premna that i bought that day, i saved a pruning and try to propagate by cutting. A small cutting and dipped it into a rooting hormone and today after about 2 weeks, the root is starting to grow!! YAY! I repot it to a small pot today!! rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Attached Image

Yesterday some of my students are absent, give me some time to go to Ho Min Yuen after a lunch..
Bought a taiwan Juniper,
Attached Image

The sifu there already made some pre wiring bend. Since i almost killed my previous juniper. This time i try asking the sifu.
He said no drastic pruning for juniper, root or foliage. Can only prune about 20-30% max at one time. Then leave it to heal and rest about 3-4 months then another 20-30% pruning. The root pruning and repotting can only be done after the CNY about June-Sept. If not the juniper might just stop growing and this takes about 2 years before it start to grow and be healthy.. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Anyway, now i've learned abit.

I also take the time to go explore further in Ho Min Yuen Nursery.. saw some awesome juniper... forget to take photo... ask the owner..

sweat.gif sweat.gif The Japanese juniper is about 100years old and it cost RM800 for that juniper about 60cm tall, and a japan juniper about 30cm cost rm500.

I started the craze for Bonsai around Nov2012, and some of the first "bonsai" i thought i bought is this SHui Mei at a normal flower nursery. They sold me this for RM25.
In 21 Nov 2012

Attached Image

Then after a few weeks i only get to know that this is only a shui mei and a messy one. Then i try to trim some and change to bigger pot in 1 Dec 2012.
Attached Image

After another 2 weeks as my Bonsai knowlegde got more, i then knew that this shui mei is pre bend to be some kind of bonsai material but then the nursery just stocked it, pot it and sell it like some desk decoration plant for ppl... then i started to prune away the suckers and unwanted branches. the wiring is still there and it already cut into the shui mei. this is about 24 Dec 2012.
Attached Image

I saw some great budding last 3 weeks and a pot it to a small bonsai pot and the growing is great. This is today's photo.
Attached Image

This is what i intend to do to it, more pruning and let the ramification go and the final result of this shohin bonsai...

Yes, finger pluck the greens n only use cutter for Brown foliage. This is juniper rule if thumb, always the heading down greens are taken away, so the tree have an overall up image.
