Hi all... Just want to share my frightening encounter with some kind of insect living inside the roots of my huang yang/ buxus harlandii. I don't mean to scare people but the pics..... are not for the faint hearted bonsaikakis. have to admit though, I was so shocked to see those things twitching here and there when I tried to flush them out using tap water.
I got this huang yang cheap from an ordinary nursery, so last Sunday I decided to pot it. I noticed that the leaves aren't so much green and I thought the problem could be with the polybag soil. To my surprise, these things started to escape from the root (about 6-9 of em,), one actually tried to STING me (what the h*ll). Alas I raked out the roots and flush everything clean using tap water. then squeesh the things. after making sure there's none of these creatures any more, I potted the huang yang. Hopefully the huang yang can survive. A lesson learnt by me= check thoroughly before buying...check the leaves, branches etc. Too cheap probably means unhealthy... I don't know..but one thing for sure.. that's very disgusting. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Hi all.. Good morning. Sharing a picture of a small premna on a rock.
Does anyone have any experience with premna? Like- how much water does it need everyday? -what type of fertiliser to use? -sunny or shady condition? -how and where to prune? -other tips? Sorry for asking many questions. Got the same question for Malpighia@barbados cherry, tiphasia trifolia @ limau kia. Thank you bonsai bros. Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(Rnck @ Jan 26 2015, 09:26 AM) This is the miniature premna i am talking about. Hopefully i can get some experts comments n advise thanks . Hi Rnck, that premna is already super awesome. If i find one like that, i,ll surely buy it. For me, i,ll just maintain the shape only for now.I got that premna & malpighia from min hoe yuen melaka. They got lots if it, but have to check everynow and now afraid if they all got sold out. I usually spend about 2 hrs 😁 at mhy looking, admiring & dreaming about how my bonsai can one day become like what they sell there.😄 |

Hi, this is the malpghia or barbados cherry (correct me if i,m wrong) bought from min Hoe yuen Melaka. Anybody have its care instructions in ourtropical climate . I found one in the internet but that,s telling how to care for it in the US region. This one actually already potted since i took the picture.

QUOTE(zabel8484 @ Feb 19 2013, 04:25 PM) Hi Oldkidz, Hi rnck, this is the location stated in old posts. Accurate. Just find the seng heng jalan pokok mangga and its just 500m from there.Yes, if you are near Melaka, you can get it there in Min Hoe Yuen Bonsai nursery, i would recommend becoz if you go normal nursery they would not have bonsai materials rather they will have garden plants. If you are near Semeyih, then Sanfong would be the best of the best to get great bonsais. With a budget of RM100/- you can get a very nice Shui Mui 80% done bonsai. Bonsai materials ranged from RM10 - rm50. cheap ones. With this you can get, shui mui, boxwood, buddhist pine, young junipers and some fukien tea. The Min Hoe Yuen is located in Pokok Mangga( GPS SengHeng pokok Mangga), if you can find Evonsave supermart then you're near.. |

Hi all, long time no post. seems quiet la this post lately.. maybe everybody is busy (like me before posting this).
Last week, visited MHY Melaka and indeed there will be a bonsai show in Melaka in July. But don't know yet the location. Anybody comin? Maybe we can meet and bonsai chit chat afterwards (lots of questions from a beginner like me.. Just sharing 3 pics of little bonsai to be (malu lah), hoping one day it'll become something grand. Does anybody have experience with Jaboticabas? How to care for them? Bought two last 2 weeks. Here's also a blooming malpighia p (dwarf Barbados cherry?) also (quite bushy thing, afraid to trim it-they don't back bud easily) Attached thumbnail(s) |

Last 2 weeks also went to Kelantan. They were having this Karnival Orkid/ tanaman hiasan thing but there's also a bonsai exhibition inside. Very elegant cucur ataps there.. The exhibitors are local and they sure know to take care of the cucur atap.. Some were for sale but very pricey ooo. sorry for the poor pics though (from handphone).

Good morning..Bonsailelong..do you think its ok to cut this limau kuku or triphasia trifolia at the indicated point? Will buds and new branches grow back?
..i got this from kampong. Probably 15 years old but not so thick since its grown in a pot. I've planted it in a big poly bag to see how it goes. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Hi everybody.. help!! i think this buxus is going to die. i recently re-potted this tree bought from a nursery, about 1 month after purchase. some new shoots came out but recently they all started to get weak somewhat and turned yellow. may someone advise where i got it wrong and how to revive it?
one desperate measure i did today- submerge the pot into another pot of water two times. then soak the pot. dont know if will work but am hoping for the best. i used mix 50:50 black and burnt red soil. it received on the mid day and evening sun, also shaded by some tall garden plants. QUOTE(pltan @ Jun 25 2015, 11:14 AM) Hi pltan,I'm not familiar with bonsai nurseries around KL, but I think you can find them at Sg Buloh or Semenyih. Price? can't comment. Please see previous posts.. also look up types of plants suitable for condo. |
