Gameplay

The player controls the character of either Ruka, Misaki, Madoka, or Choushiro, and uses the Camera Obscura to photograph and fight off ghosts. The player explores the various buildings present on Rougetsu Island. On the main screen there is a sensor bar that indicates if a ghost is present. When the sensor bar glows red, there is a hostile ghost nearby. If the sensor bar turns blue, there is a neutral or friendly ghost present, one that will not attack but can be captured with the camera. At any point in the game, the player can enter the first person camera mode in which ghosts can be defeated.

The Wii Remote is used to look around and to direct the flashlight, as well as bring up the menu and camera, while the Nunchuk is used to move the character around

Plot

10 years ago, five girls were captured and held hostage by a criminal in a mysterious house on Rougetsu Island, located south of Honshu. They were eventually rescued by Choushiro Kirishima, a detective pursuing the criminal. Several years after the incident, two of the girls, Marie Shinomiya and Tomoe Nanamura, died mysteriously. The three remaining girls, Ruka Minazuki, Misaki Asou, and Madoka Tsukimori, all now 17 years old, return to the island to recover their lost memories and find out more about their kidnapping. Choushiro follows the girls at the request of Ruka's mother, Sayaka Minazuki.

Famitsu has given a score of the new Fatal Frame game as 9/9/8/8.

been following this game quite sometimes, finally the japan release.
If you need to know ore on some reveal:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/895/895630p1.html

btw, according to people already playing it, here the details:
-COntrol flashlight with your Wiimote pointer
-COntrol camera with the same way too
-pretty creepy picking up item system, you dont just press a button and pick up an item, you actually need to press and hold button A and watch you hand slowly reach the item and pick it up...
-over the shadow view like RE4

Cant wait for the US release!!!! But up to date, there is still no news sad.gif

this game is fantastic, the sound effect, the graphic and the gameplay are absolutely first class.

It really gives me goosebump, i can't stand playing it alone , especially at night.

I have been frightened for a lot of times , that's sweat.gif

But it really intrigues me, Look forward to playing it with brother at night.

i say highly possible, nintendo is the publisher why won't they support their own console? grasshopper manufacture and suda51 who co-developed the game are like rock stars to the americans, the game definitely has appeal abroad.

only question is when? it's coming to a year since its japan release and oneechanbara also took a year for localization despite the reportedly minimal effort thrown in.

In the case of Oneechanbara, it's a different case
Oneechanbara's localization is already confirmed long time ago after the release of Jap version,
Also blood and boobies sells, hence the developer are eager to release it US

But in the case of FF4, there's no news of localization after the Jap release, not even a hint.

But still... Unlike RE0, they'll just tell you it's confirmed there won't be a english version of RE0, so there's still a very very slim chance it might release in english. tongue.gif

agreed, more than often if the publisher don't announce some sort of plan for the US version by the time the japanese release roll out it's more or less not coming here already.

the problem with Fatal Frame is localization takes time and resources since they probably won't settle for releasing a subtitled game like the previous installments. worst case is they probably would release the game subtitled down the line when ppl don't really care anymore like SEGA's yakuza2.

wish they would just confirm whether or not it's coming when asked instead of beating around the bush...

A Tecmo representative has been quoted saying that Wii game Fatal Frame IV will not be released in North America, just staying in Japan.

"Nintendo holds the publishing rights to Fatal Frame Wii, which was developed by Tecmo LTD and Grasshopper Manufacture and released in Japan on July 31st, 2008. Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America ? consequently, the title will not be released in this territory. As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America".

Sounds like bad news for fans of the survival horror genre.

yeah i read that too, doesn't affect some of us because official my/sg Wii is US version anyways and wii is region-lock.

in fact, i'm glad it's not coming to Europe since NA is not getting it anyways.... i don't want another disaster. vmad.gif

wait until ur muka also like ur avatar dy is it? but seriously, one year past its original jp is dy a long time, they were to start now also it will be a ways off until they get it.

not to mention FF games also come with new eng VOs, so they can't just do a quick port with subs like others.

Good news to Fatal Frame 4 fans

as Nintendo Amerika turn off Fatal Frame 4 to be available for EN/EU version,

there is one team that working on translation on Fatal Frame 4.

from my understanding, they will release the patch around end of this month or next month *from the date of this post*

From the FAQs:

QUOTE
Q: How will the patch work?

A: We are attempting a very ambitious patch which will patch the original game on-the-fly, something that to my knowledge has never been attempted before. Should we succeed, the patch will be read off an SD card and run through the Wii Memory Management menu, and will function as long as you have the original game in your disc drive.

Q: So I'll need to buy the Japanese game?

A: Yes, you will need to buy the game to play it, like with every other game.

Q: Will I need to buy a Japanese Wii?

A: No, should the patching method be successfully implemented, the game will run on any Wii, any version, any region. Except perhaps Korean. I can't vouch for Korean Wiis.

Q: Will I need anything else to play the patch?

A: You'll need an SD card, someway to transfer files from your computer to your SD card, and the intelligence to follow simple instructions.

Other optional things you may want to have to extend functionality include a Wii, some controllers, hands, eyes, ears, a television or monitor, a sensor bar, some cookies and a glass of milk, and an easily scared attractive member of the opposite sex.

HAIL INTEHNET!

p/s: someone from first page please copypaste this info, this team will 99.99% surely release this patch

Certain parties have brought up in a report that this translation project may constitute piracy.
In my book, this is a rather grey area. I hold in high regard, those that would volunteer their time to make available a game to an audience that would otherwise be unable to enjoy it.
This site does not appear to neither reveal any method of playing the game without first purchasing the original media disc, nor make it any easier to play a pirated version. As such, I leave it to the hands of Nintendo and their fully capable legal department to decide whether or not they wish to cease (and desist) such activity.

As this current topic of discussion is in a grey area of legality, I trust that everyone will take care while discussing it.

I think it does not really constitute as piracy as the developers intent is to allow none japanese literate people to enjoy the game requiring an original disc. I think that Nintendo would most probably keep quiet as this would probably boost up their export sales (people who buy ori would not pirate if they like the game enough people, while it wouldnt matter to those who do).

I'm guessing the developers are not revealing their method to detect original games is to circumvent/delay hackers from bypassing it.

Either way, this project shows how much people want this game. Too bad they aren't getting paid for their efforts, while the game producers reap profits.

I don't think the english patch will help the sales significantly. This game only sold ~70k copies in Japan. Outside of Japan can expect less.

it's back in stock on play-asia if you were looking for the original japanese import which i assumed you were...

just placed an order myself, didn't want to take the chance anymore since copies of this game is fast drying up with no reissue in sight.

It's so hard to find the original copy of the game. With the English translation you can play the game in English.
