Microsoft has announced recently that there will be new 16:10 resolutions which is the 1440x900 and 1680x1050 for the 360. Does it makes any difference to the games ownself resolutions? As far as i know, all the games resolution is 720p. In my opinion, i guess although the xbox have this new resolutions, it doesn't change the resolution of the game. Instead the game will still looks stretch on the 16:10 monitor.

16:10 is usually meant for LCD monitor , while 16:9 for LCD Tv .
The difference lies in the amount of designated pixels , basically the ratio of total pixels spacing out . For example 16:9 had 1280(16)x720(9) and the equivalent resolutions for 16:10 is 1280x800 in 16 to 10 ratio amount of pixels . However , the current output for most 360 games is 720p , which is designed for 16:9 LCD TV . LCD monitors with 16:10 will have slightly stretched image and couldn't make use of native resolutions . In short , the 16:10 resolutions will benefit LCD monitor user , matching native resolution . But .... , in real world , I don't think there would be much different . in the real world, I doubt those 16:10 resos would show any significant difference over 16:9 resos stretched to full screen via pixel mapping, well, not for LCD monitor sizes that is.
I used to run my Xbox 360 on my Samsung 2253BW until it died (the Box, not my Samsung) on 1280x720 via VGA and it's still sharp.. well, for the most part. it can also be forced to run 1900x1080 without any problems. but still, any small attempt by M$ to show some love to LCD monitor users is very much welcome.. and I will appreciate the availability of native LCD resos when I get my new Xbox 360 in time for GOW2 This post has been edited by nerd: Jul 31 2008, 05:18 PM |

QUOTE(gnome @ Jul 31 2008, 04:24 PM) i thought this only applies to those monitor which support 1:1 mapping pixel..mine doesn't..so i think although there is the new 16:10 resolutions..it doesn't make any difference unless the games support those resolutions too |

Also running lcd in their native resolution is better since the picture will be sharper. |

the text will look significantly sharper, u can try it urself at ur comp, try 800x600 while ur monitor native resolution is 1024x768, the difference is there. As long as it doesnt hit native reso, everything will be blurred and stretched. THis is definitely a PLUS for LCD monitor user like me. I dont like using LCD TV becos it is pixelated as my room is too small for a 32inch LCD TV, unless u got a wide living room, u can opt for LCD TV which u can sit further out.

Hmm, no 1920*1200? It's the native res for 24" LCDs...
But anyway, most newer 24" LCDs can support 1:1 mapping properly. |
