I believe we can take advantage of Yoast WordPress SEO plugin from wordpress while the rest is we workout on the backlinks.

Yoast is great if you have wordpress and lets you change meta's etc really easily. Being able to get strong backlinks is also pretty critiqual for SEO however the real winner which everybody should know by now is...

Content = King

If you are providing users with a great experience and great content, of course you are going to rank better.

Absolutely agree! Nothing is better than content! A great content will get viral automatically without doing anything which lead you to higher level

1. Pick a niche area. Make sure you know it in some depth.
2. Figure out what people in the niche want to know. This means reading relevant forums/threads/websites. Leave comments that count and link back to your site.
3. Become an expert. Don't just rehash what the other guys write about - that just makes you just one of 'em. Be an authority.
4. You'll also need the right tools. WordPress wins hands down as the best blogging software for SEO at the moment.

If you want to do it naturally, focus on the contents. Your keyword must be rich.. It takes some time, but this is the King way...

I have to agree with all of these but mostly numbers 1) and 3). I would also add you should generally be blogging about something you enjoy. Like everything in life if you enjoy what you do not only is it better for you when writing but it also shows when reading your work. A lot of people forget this, passionate writing of articles shine so much compared to mindless stuff some people write for no real reason.

It really depends on how you define "Popular". Popular in terms of generic visitor (free traffic)? Popular in term of ads visitors (buying traffic)? Popular in social media websites (people share you articles or your website) on facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and etc.

Agree with theshadowgamer, keyword rich keywords articles are almost useless now. I have been web developer and Internet marker for over 3 years. I have been through both Google Panda and Penguin. The Google ranking algorithm has changed a lot since then. Social sharing and engagement is a lot more important than keywords/link building.

content is king. once you have written lots of original content and google indexed them, you can start seeing organic traffic coming in from search engines.
