No doubt, creating high-quality, relevant content is crucial. Yet, you will need a steady growth of backlinks to your blog. Instead of waiting for your audience to discover your awesome blog somehow, do invest your time and resources into promotion and getting links.
Those shouldn't be from websites with super high authority metrics: from my experience, relevancy is more important. The more relevant links and mentions you get, the higher chances you have 1) to rank higher in Google for your target, relevant keywords AND 2) to get some good referral traffic, people who are genuinely interested in the topics you cover.
