eih... i noe LX3 is great n fun la.

but.... i personally feel that investments(by buying extra lens, caps n adapters) not tat worth it lo.
although i noe can get cheap from ebay.

but count count.... n see..
LX3 rm1600 + further investments in caps, lens, adapters = dslr price

investment in dslr lens cannot compare with this la.
not that i say cannot invest.
but i think shud keep it minimal.

i learn tis frm working at cam shops.
selling those lens, adapters, filters, etc......

Right, it looks like a mini-dslr to me.. smile.gif
Do the filters degrade the quality of the photos?.

Im so blur about the zoom thing especially what 24mm-duno what 100mm...
Just now got one seller pm me that he sell LX3 for RM1710 w/ standard accs, i feel like it is expensive so I rejected the offer.
*
Well,i bought mine (Black,last unit) for RM1,600.00 c/w 4GB Panasonic class4 SD card, 1 pouch,
1 LCD cover (fits nicely).

A friend of mine wanted to buy this model and i called a couple of shops and they DONT know when
shipment for Silver/Black will come in.

If you want to buy and enjoy photography, you could get the silver (if you want), at the above price range
or wait for the Ship to Dock the Habour....only God knows when!.

Cheers

like i said earlier lo. if invest so much on the add ons for lx3.
then can get a dslr ady.

dunno why la... coz i dun have lx3 la. but if i do... i feel like upgrading it with add ons as well.
but count har count har... feel the investments(tele lens, macro lens, all sorts of filters) + the camera cost = can buy dslr ady.

+ jor 3x tele lens still lose to FZ28 in zooming bah.

Hi,
You are buying the LX3 for its small size and portability, i carry mine all the time!.
Yo dont have to invest in add-ons .
Which DSLR gives you lens at wide-angle and f2.0-f2.8, for these you need to invest thousands
of ringgits .
So ask yourself,if you want a portable camera with fast lens or a DSLR with expensive lenses.!
Of course if you have the money do buy a DSLR and the LX3 can compliment it!.

Cheers

I went to try LX3 at Jusco today. Quite good.

My question:-

1) The lens is widescreen. So if snap human portrait, wouldn't it look long?

2) The price in Jusco and Harvey is RM1699 with 4GB + Pouch + Screen Protector (not cover fully). 0% credit card charge. Harvey can installment 0% for 9 months. Is this expensive?

3) I want/plan to buy tomorrow. Which shop can get cheaper without credit card charge and with stock for black?

4) Which shop can get the full screen protector for LCD

5) Which shop can get the screen protector for Lens

Well for portraits at wide you will get distortion, so your best pick for portraits will be
to shoot at 50-60mm.
Even with Dslrs and wide-angle lens you get distortions.

I got a noob question.... when u add on a 3x tele lens...
so by default i already have 2.5x... so with the lens.. it will be

2.5 x 3?

= 7.5 x optical zoom????
*
Honestly speaking, even when i had my tele-zoom for my Dslr and using
a software to calculate the percentage of wide to zoom, most of my photos
were taken at less then 80mm and rarely more the 105mm,rarely!.

Hence, do you really need a Zoom...
I might pick up a Zoom, not because i want it, because i am traveling overseas next month
and i NEED it.
So guys, where can i purchase these add-on's at a reasonable price,i need the shops name and tel. no.
Using these add-on zoom, and noticeable degradation of picture quality?
BTW: i live in KL

Thanks for the help

I havent gone back to that camera complex yet. I'll be here for another 2 weeks so will post up the pic of that complex after I go buy my SLR accessories.

I noticed u guys saying KL very ahrd to find black LX3. Here in Shanghai terbalik. Black color in the shops by the mountain loads. Silver color dont have. Finally saw 1 silver unit today in another shop. That was the only silver unit I've seen here so far. LOL
*
Well, in bolehland , the only thing we dont have is a Black!.
Enjoy your stay and how do you find the Lx3.
Show us some pictures of the "complex" complex filled with camera's.
After having sold my Dslr, i find the Lx3 weightless and is with me all the time.

Cheers

electronics are sensitive to moisture, if not mistaken you got milk into
the unit, or was it someone else!.

You should wait for their reply and see whats action you need to take, like agreeing
to their terms.

Of course its sad to spend so much.

QUOTE(limsy @ Nov 23 2008, 11:30 AM)
Hi people.
I'm like 98% sold on getting LX3 but I appreciate it if you guys can answer a few questions I have regarding cameras in general... I'm a noob and a wanabee you see...

1.  There is no way I can add more zoom to it yes? Since I won't be able to change its lens? (only DSLR cam can yes?)

2.  2.5x optical zoom "sounds" really pathetic when I see cameras out there with 10x instead... is this how you compare zoom? or is it related to the lens as well?  ie... I cannot compare zoom power directly between cameras without taking into account the lens?

3.  What are the recommended accessories for this camera? Is the included stuff with the camera sufficient?

4.  Can someone recommend a good shop for the above camera? Waranty is 1 year yes? Anyone shop offering more?

Thanks!  My only regret is not setting down my foot and get a camera BEFORE my melbourne trip... I spent the whole trip regretting my error... ah... WOE is me...  *cries*
Limsy the noob... obviously.
*
Well, it was great mistake on your part in not getting a camera before your trip.
A P&Shoot camera would have done justice to your trip, well all is not lost, you could always go there with a camera!.

Questions you have to ask yourself :
1...Do you want a small camera or a larger one!.
2...Do you want a camera with more wide angle or a longer zoom..you cant have the best of them in one camera!.
3...What sort of photography would you most likely be taking...there is no use buying a small camera and adding tons of stuff, making it looking like a DSLR!.
4...A small camera allows you the flexibility and the mobility to carry it anywhere you choose, wherein with a DSLR you have to plan your move 1st!.
5...If you do buy a camera start of with the basic stuff and from there see what else you would like to have and add that to your purchases..do not RUSH blindly in only
to have regrets later, that the extras you bought are now lying unused...."They say a journey begins with a single step"..that means No Jumping!.. biggrin.gif

Panasonic has announced the launch of the compact FL220 flashgun and will update the DMC-LX3's firmware to accommodate it. Firmware v1.1 not only allows full compatibility with the DMW-FL220 flash unit, it also promises to improve Auto White Balance performance.
