History..uncle stimix very pro...he can show you hidden tunnels biggrin.gif

Got several options for accommodation.
- Equatorial, Hatten, Holiday Inn and Mahkota century are near to shopping complexes but since you are from KL (and just back from JPO), you can skip shopping
- Ramada, City bayview and a few others are right in the town area
- Casa del rio and a few other boutique hotel near jonker area

Hard to recommend the food but the normal tourist ones are chicken rice ball, baba nyonya cuisine, laksa, cendol..

As I was typing, I found that unc stimix already make a summary at 1st post thumbup.gif

Hehe..it's ok ...food matters very subjective...some like it, some don't..
Generally should be acceptable.  biggrin.gif

Hotels u can recommend? Which ones you have stayed before?  tongue.gif

Let's say lah. If you were offered a free stay in one of the hotels you mentioned, which one will you choose? And why?  brows.gif

Actually there's so much info in my hands already. A google on the names given above already helped me a lot. I was searching for some Melaka street view on google maps, so far can't see any.  biggrin.gif
Anyway, gamsahabnida  thumbup.gif

I stayed at Equatorial before, normal like other 4/5 star hotel. If sponsored, I will pick Casa Del Rio...coz that is one of the newest hotel and it is by the river brows.gif and convenient access to most places.

Melaka Street view? LoL wait slowly until the google car reach melaka

But am wondering, is the hotel within walking distance to the Jonker street?

About 1 km distance

Not as near as I thought it would be.

Anyway, is it okay to walk to Jonker Street, or is it advisable to go by car?
I think it is not easy to find parking at Jonker Street, no?
*
If it is during night time, just take a stroll there is still okay as you will walk pass stadhuys, watermill, the flor de lar ma ship. You will enter from the Hard Rock Cafe end (bridge).

Yes, finding car park is tricky, but still not as impossible as in Midvalley laugh.gif

LOL definitely not as tough as Midvalley, but not simple at all.
There was a time, weirdly, I was able to find a parking nearby Jonker Walk.
It's like the parking was destined to me.
So I parked.

Only to return back to my car and found that .. my car was shitstormed by the crows!! Haha..

Just to confirm, the Jonker Walk is only open at night, right?
What's the operation hour like? 8pm-2am, I think?
*
The shops (building) actually open during daytime too..but as for the makeshift stalls..i am not sure what is the current status or whether the road is now open for traffic flow or not. I didn't go there for more than 1 year already doh.gif Need others to fill up this info.

I think I'll just play it by the ear, so just go there, and ask the hotel receptionist for advice.

Alright, my plan is to go there for 2 days and 1 night (check in on Saturday, checks out on Sunday).
Our main activity is on eating, so anyone can advice us on where to go for good food?

Local delicacy would be best, though. Food that is not available elsewhere, and even if it exist,
it doesn't taste as good as in Malacca smile.gif

For food, you may check it here for some pointers. Enjoy your trip smile.gif

helo..

need some pointers..

will be going to melaka to celebrate wife's bday..

it'll be a 3D2N (sun-tues) food hunting trip. as we are muslims, selections are quite limited and shortlisted these:

1. Cendol - Jonker88/East & West Rendv. Cafe/Jeta Grooves
2. Laksa Nyonya - Calathe Art Cafe
3. Naan - Pal Putra's
4. Roti John - Restoran Barkat
5. Seafood - Perkampungan ikan bakar
6. Nasi lemak - Capitol NL
7. Bfast - Toast & Toast
8. Putu Piring - Tengkera
9. Chic rice ball - any recommendations - halal?

And bday dinner will be at HRC. Decided to stay at Hatten.

Any other recommendations for food/places to visit (a must)?

Thanks.

Hi all,

We'll be heading to Melaka next week by car. This is the first time ever for us to drive to travel. We'll be staying at Kawan-Kawan Guesthouse, which is located at Jln Tukang Besi, behind Jonker for 3D2N, 9th till 11th May.

Need some info on the traffic, I heard that Melaka has a lot of one way roads, and read on a few travel pages that the traffic lights are confusing as well. However those info are kinda old so anyone verify these info? Any precaution to drive there from KL and around town?

The guesthouse we staying in has no private parking (first mistake :/) so we'll have to park on public spaces. For the parking coupon, where can I get them?

I researched on Google Maps and find that most of the places in interest are actually not far away from each other, plus I know that Melaka is tricky to find parking. But we'll also like to able to travel to more places such as Pokok Manga (seaside?), Nadeje etc. So my plan is drive around on Fri (9th, less car on Fri?) and walk on weekends, good plan? Or any other suggestions is welcomed.

Besides all those restaurants that get constant review and tourist attention, are there any alternatives to the food that will save us from long queuing? We got friends recommendation such as Ban Lee Heong Satay Celup, Ole Ole Nyoya, Cendol @ Jonker beside statue etc. Would love some more recommendations.

Thanks!

Look for this signage for the coupon.
http://dexxy.net/uploads/2009/jom-mk-coupon-sale.jpg

Yes, there are quite a number of one way roads but the traffic lights are not confusing.

Pokok Mangga is not a seaside area. You will just find a long stretch of road. The land beside it is already used for reclamation project.

Walk on weekend is okay within the historical sites near jonker street but you will still have to drive to reach other places.

Ban Lee Satay Celup, you still need to wait as it will be packed but not as bad as Capitol.

Hi, first of all thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

Tq for your picture, will sure look up for it.

My friend who's hometown is at Melaka said P.Mangga is a seaside. So is there any seaside that we can go, if at all?
*
i confirm it is not a seaside. nothing is interesting there, just a typical stretch of roads with houses. the land from mahkota parade up till tanjung minyak is used for reclamation project. very impossible for pokok mangga. maybe you can ask your friend again whether it is another place

for seaside, you will need to the area further from tanjung minyak...but it is about 15 km from town already.

of course there are some short stretch near mahkota, klebang but not worth as too near to the reclaim area so will be very murky

*
there are a several food shops inside melaka sentral, no other fast food (if i am not mistaken)....tesco is across the road (via a long footbridge)...beside melaka sentral, is the market, some food shops too.
