If you look around, there is no other 4 bay NAS as powerful, as configurable and as cheap that has the capacity to fit in 5 drives.

I think we have gone through a round of Microserver hunting game a year ago .. N40L is definitely not selling here in MY, and the only one N36L left found in PJ/KL area was in 1U-HP store..it was a display set.. And darknite is right, many of the HP store staff wouldn't even know what it is due to the fact that this Microserver sits in between a consumer range PC and the commercial miroserver Proliant range..makes them a real stranger. And becoz it is such a rare item, I asked my HP distributor to bring one in specifically for me from HP S'pore last year.. So, I'm eager to know which HP store, at this moment in time, still have the N36L in stock... Update us pls.

QUOTE(DarkNite @ Sep 11 2012, 04:22 PM) Two months ago I went to the 1U HP store, a young chap dun even know that HP have a microserver! Hi, doesn't help anymore coz they confirm they will not take a second order, they did mine N40L out of a favour last year... I read from Singapore hardwarezone forum, someone mentioned that HP Singapore is selling the N40L now.. not sure how true it is though..He kept on tell me to get a desktop! Says can do many things with a desktop! Can give me ur HP contact number? |

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 12 2012, 09:44 AM) Yes, that's the price of the N40L from newspaper. But the HP reseller shops could not (or probably would not) quote me the N40L. Bro, from which newspaper did you see the N40L advert?Saw the N36L promo starting about 2 months ago if I'm not wrong. That's not too bad. Seldom see HP stuff below the price of what they advertise in the newspaper. |

I'm running the old school method of BACKUP...I guess that is why Microserver gives us so many USB ports lol...save the headache of RAID, and I have full access to the max capacity that HPM can provide...only do a schedule backup and synchronisation every x hours on partitions or folders that are critical to me..So the double deck is alain item I wud love to own ... Aneip, are u based in KL?
Added on September 15, 2012, 12:08 am QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 14 2012, 11:40) Anyway, this is what I get using RAID 0 from the N36L BIOS (aka Fake RAID) under RAIDXPert with 4 x 3TB WD Red drives; Yup. This post has been edited by numbertwo: Sep 15 2012, 12:08 AM |

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Sep 20 2012, 03:50 PM) **snapped** why not consider a Hp procurve Gb-switch? It comes with lifetime warranty from HP..LOL, I have 2 dead gigabit switches. One is an Asus 8 port that died after warranty and the other is Cisco 8 port that was very new but died. Not sure why. Never got to claim warranty because need to claim it from Singapore. *snapped* |

Anyone here wanna have my 2GB ecc RAM, you may have it for RM50/-.
I run the N40L mainly for media & torrent server plus some background monitoring tools, I found that the 8GB (non-ecc) RAM is overly excessive .. |

For normal usage ie file storage (file or docs) or even some low resolution movie streaming, I don't think normal user would complaint... But it sucks that no USB3.0 is provided..

I'm using N40L... noise is neglectable, but I guess that depends on the surrounding environment and different ears...

QUOTE(jimmy_none @ Jan 1 2013, 07:09 PM) thanks for the reply.may i know how much you bought? any upgrade for RAM? if you were to put it in your room, are you able to sleep with is on (cos that the only place I could put)? oh...I took out the ECC RAM and replace it with Kingston's normal desktop 1333mhz RAM 2x4GB. I bot it for around 1.3K last year.If you are going to place this N40L at the opposite corner of your bed and you will be turning on Fan or Aircond at night, then I am sure the fan noise or the aircond noise will cover up the N40L fan noise.. Like I said, the fan noise is neglectable but not total silence of course.. also it depends also on another factor, what type of drives u are going to use.. I read that WD Black will produce much more noise than the usual WD green. |
