Price won't drop much. Also, not many shop selling. That day, I went to lowyat plaza only IT Hypermart got sell. Better grab before stock run out.

I can't test that now cause I am running ubuntu on it. But I am planning to install dual boot windows 2008r2 foundation later once I have time to test it out. Then I can test this air video. But it will take some time before I can do this. Cause I have a few articles to write on this microserver and ubuntu tutorial on it.

Damn. I think I need to buy another Microserver. The current one is filling up fast. Unless get a eSATA 4 or 5 bay box and connect it to the Microserver. Oh, yes, heard that the eSATA port on the Microserver does not support Port Multiplication. sad.gif Need to put in an extra PCIe x1 eSATA card for that. I read the eSATA port from the Acer H342 supports PM.

Also thinking of putting a PCI x4 dual or quad network card to upgrade the network bandwidth via link aggregation LACP. But that would also require LACP aware switch. sad.gif

hmmm PM not working eh? not even with AHCI? anyhow a PCIe x1 eSATA card with DAS box is still cheaper than buying an entire new server.

Didn't buy it at All IT. Bought it at the HP reseller at Digital Mall.

Last I saw (about more than a month ago), only the All IT at the Curve had it. The Lowyat and Digital Mall outlet did not have it. Perhaps now would have changed.

I'm looking for a NAS for business/ office use with the following requirements:-
- Raid 5
- 4 slots (I need about 1-2TB)
- Good file writing speed
- Active Directory support (users are on AD therefore the file server has to be on AD as well)
- Low maintenance

May I know if there are NAS which comes with it's own OS? If possible I would like to save on buying an OS for the NAS.

I'm currently interested in the Synology DS411+ but are there any other NAS in the same class which you would recommend? The DS411+ is about 2.5k but if possible I'm looking for one below RM2k.

i think the hp microserver is a good choice. I bought mine at ALL IT in lowyat. RM900 after discount.

I do not think the Synology fully support AD cause it's running linux based OS. AD users can login through SAMBA. The last I check, SAMBA does not support windows AD well. Maybe it has improved, I don't know.

Anyway, Synology is much more expensive than HP. Synology is a NAS but HP Microserver is a server. The HP one can be upgraded to 8GB RAM. It supports Windows 2008R2.

The only downside I see for the HP is the RAID. If I remember correctly, in the BIOS, it only support RAID 0 and 1. For RAID5, you need to used AMD's RAIDXpert drivers. No worries cause the drivers can be downloaded from HP site. Small matter as both synology and hp are using software (fakeraid) anyway.

If you want NAS feature more (such as easier RAID management), no OS tinkering, then go for Synology. If price also not an option....

If you want Server with RAID (more server options), upgrade RAM, power processor, install windows server then HP is for you.

I would personally go for HP cause of the upgradability of the RAM and much more powerful processor. Not to mention half the price of synology. And I can install any OS I want. Can even dual boot windows/linux.

The HP microserver is everything of the above except that it does not support RAID 5. To save on OS, you could use Linux. Only RAID 0 and RAID 1 from BIOS. But of course that does not stop you from getting a 3rd party PCIe x4 or x1 RAID card that supports RAID 5. That will bump up the price a little but I believe it will still be below your 2k budget.

Else, the Synology is not too bad but at a higher price.
