I just saw my friend wasted RM160 on the photobook from them.

She was very dissappointed with the outcome of it.

When I look at it, compared to the one I got from shutterfly.com(USA based), it was really a BIG letdown.

I'm not entirely certain it was due to the quality of the paper used to print the photos.

The Shutterfly version, it was printed on glossy paper and it has a nice magazine like feel/look. The one from photobook.com.my, instead was printed on canvas like paper which has a lot of texture. I'm unsure if it was due to the texture that the prints/photos came out very dull and what not.

All in all, if this is the quality of it, then I'm recommending that you all stay away from them.

Anyone here can give a different opinion?

i have seen a lot of photobook.com.my's products... I feel that they are really good quality and well done..are you sure its really that bad? or maybe its just that the type of paper didnt suit the photos that you printed? nonetheless, i have seen, touched and held those photobooks and is amazed by the results though...its one of the largest photobook printing companies in malaysia...

as mentioned, it was a letdown. It might have been the choice of peles used for the printing,(canvas like) that caused it. She chose the hardcover type instead of a normal paper cover, perhaps in hard cover type, the paper used is like that???

She is gonna complain to the guy/company and see how. Really bad lah. Seriously bad.

Added on July 20, 2008, 7:47 amI just relooked at the website and the paper used, seems like no matter what option, all of them are matte type paper and with texture..

hz428, While I understand that, the look of it is already very dull and that makes it even worst.

So what if you can keep it for like 20 years? I don't even feel like looking at it now.

I've been very happy with photobook so far. They clearly state on their website that they use imported Italian matte acid free paper for their hardcover books. The resolution and sharpness are maintained and the colors are well preserved too. I've always preferred matte paper over glossy anyways so that I can view them under all kinds of lighting conditions and not seeing glare due to the gloss reflecting too much light.

So far, I have tried the Jalan Kuchai Lama's photobookmart.
it's 170g acid free paper, without any glossy or matte finish i thin,
But I feel that the printing quality is so so....

There are several companies that I have not tried...
photobook which also uses 170g silk paper and so on...
if others have any idea, maybe can share here, which is the best?
quality & price wise...

Photobook malaysia has given me accurate colors on their prints. Your friend may have chose the wrong type of paper as been said by the others as well.

Hi there!
I did > 5 books with photobook, and I am very satisfied with their products. From landscape, potrait, till large photobook I did with them.
I think your friend didn't choose the gsm of the paper, I always upgrade to 210 gsm , and matte type, hardcover.

If the result of your book is not good, it may due to your picture resolution, paper quality.

I always support photobook cause their service is very good.

Yeah, photobook service is good. I did one complain about burble appearance. I get a replacement within 3 days even without shipping back the defective album to them.

They seem to have a 40% offer on their website. Anyone tried before? Cant seem to find their T&C.

Dont want to spend all the time designing then no offer...

had no problem with photobook before.. I proudly claim that they are my album supplier...

but the recent nightmare... vprint house... Wanted to try out because of groupon promo, but seriously, 2 months to print a 40 pages 8R size... lost of files uploaded to them, I paid, waited and then contact to inquire the progress, then they say they were still waiting for my files to be uploaded since the day i paid...

then I reupload, and i wait again... lucky its my personal print... if client... i guess they just granted me a death sentence or the sorts in our first transaction...

i have printed 7 XL landscape (17"x12") photobooks from them. 1 Free replacement, so far quite ok with their service and quality.

Photo Lustre paper is a bit darker than other paper.
Their imagewrap can't use glossy as cover anymore.
And also I don't like their discount / promotion scheme, excluded delivery fee and some charges which is included previously, and I have emailed them few times regarding this, they never reply my question.

If you comparing Photobook malaysia and Pixajoy, Both of them are using Taopix as their online editor. if not mistaken this software are from europe, but throuout the year, it feels dated and lack of customization and mobility. in 2018 there are many great online photobook service available online. Milkbooks, Artifact uprising and www.flipchap.com
Three of them focus on Hand made photobook with good finishing and material. But being malaysian, i found Flipchap is the most reasonable in price in terms of quality and material selection. they offer great choice in materials and finishing too.
