guys, been reading about some blackout issues with the 4850.. does it happen only on non-stock speed cards?
*
It could be:

1. PSU not enough power (unlikely if you use true power 450W and above - depending on other items in your rig too).

2. Pirated Windows XP Pro. Very few thought of this: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...1600&sec=nation

3. Unstable driver. Try using CCC 8.7 first. Play some games, don't use those benchmarking apps like Furmark. If games ok, then keep 8.7

Temp is unlikely to be the cause since most reporting around 70-80C on load.

Hope this helps.

yeap.. it beat 9500gt.. but it still lose to 3850 few fps when play game
*
Well, according to ATI, the 4600 series are positioned vs NV 8500/8600 and 9500 series.

3850 and 3870 will be maintained vs NV 9600, 8800 and 9800 series.

Of course, 4850 and 4870 beat them all.

sapphire claim dat 4670 is 40% faster den 9500GT........................

Hey bro,

Please post some links re this. Because it doesn't look like the official lab scores. Furthermore, 9500GT is an improvement over the 8600GT.

Thanks.

Ya, how much.. I'm staying at Taiping here, what is the average cost of hd 4850?

Btw, what nvidia card is on par with hd 4850?
Thinking of getting hd 4850 here.

You missed few hundreds pages of discussion on HD4850 vs NV. tongue.gif Try reading around this thread, use the search button, Google it or check out the links below.

Generally HD4850 has the best price/performance ratio now and is comparable to 9800GTX+. It's the most popular GC atm.

But if you do have some budget (around RM1k), HD4870 is a super good choice.

Please share your PC specs here so people can compare. Thanks.

and Huntkey "Vpower" got problem with the Gainward 4850GS (cas the noise problem). there is no problem if v power with other reference 4850 and even HIS HD4850 iceQ4 (more than 6 forumers using huntkey V-POWER/ GreenStar 550 +HIS HD4850iceQ4 TURBO).
Please do NOT conclude Huntkey have problems with Gainward 4850 GS just because 1 user (Celciuz) have noise.

Zhen Wei, as an experience reseller, you should not conclude based on 1-2 incidents. I know you want to push your HIS and Huntkey, but please refrain from comparing this way just because you have 6 HIS users without problems. We sold a few hundreds Gainward 4850 Golden Sample, and so far have not heard of other sound problems from any PSU. So if you want to compare, our numbers much much higher than yours.

Learn from Pikacu's wise statement below.

*cough* I'm not the only one. There's another guy in the Gainward thread who encountered this problem as well if you did read every post there.
There found the post.

And I have a friend using 4850 GS recently bought as well also having noisy PSU. Also a 450W Coolermaster PSU, don't know which model.. is the one with LED lights and the front panel.
*
Actually, I meant ONLY Huntkey + Gainward 4850 GS users with "singing" PSU, not other brands. Anyone else with noises from their Huntkey 550W when using HD4850 (any brands)? Please share...

As for your friend with 450W Coolermaster PSU, please bear in mind the min power requirement for Gainward 4850 GS is 500W, although I recalled seeing someone using Gainward 4850 GS successfully with a 390W PSU only! ohmy.gif

Your friend PSU only makes noise when he stress test his 4850GS using ATI tools right? That's another way of saying his PSU is insufficient when under heavy load.

Anyway, maybe you should RMA your Huntkey 550W. Perhaps no more noise after the exchange...

All the best! icon_rolleyes.gif
